BACKGROUND: Rehabilitating anterior edentulous areas can be a challenge for clinicians when there is a loss of hard and soft tissues. The authors present an innovative approach to manage these cases.
CASE DESCRIPTION: Case 1 involved a patient with a dental implant placed in the position of tooth no. 7 and a loss of soft tissues in the proximal areas. The authors bonded veneers to teeth nos. 6 and 8 and placed a screw-retained implant crown in the position of tooth no. 7. All of the prosthetic components had gingiva-shade and crown ceramics. Case 2 involved a patient with a dental implant in

UNLABELLED: In this fourth and final paper on the management of patients with congenitally missing teeth, the use of dental implants is considered. This group of patients often provides unique challenges when implant reconstruction is considered. Often a multidisciplinary approach is required involving orthodontists, oral surgeons and restorative dentists. The use of dental implant systems is a rapidly developing area of dentistry and its implications on hypodontia are discussed. This paper identifies the problems associated with a congenital absence of teeth and addresses their management in

Patients afflicted with congenitally missing teeth are a unique patient population for consideration of treatment with osseointegrated implants. Frequently, these patients have limited development of the alveolar process and differences in spatial position relative to the opposing arch, which places emphasis on ancillary treatment with orthodontics and oral surgery. A thorough diagnostic workup should include an interdisciplinary approach to ensure optimal treatment and timing of treatment in those who are developing. This article outlines considerations for treating these types of patients an

The evaluation of complex facial-cranial trauma and subsequent restoration requires multidisciplinary treatment planning for optimal success and patient satisfaction. Patients with bilateral subcondylar fractures and facial-dental trauma are invariably challenging. Consideration of total joint replacement, along with the comprehensive evaluation of facial-dental esthetics and occlusion is critical for an optimal long-term outcome and for patient comfort. This patient treatment illustrates team cooperation and an optimal patient treatment outcome with long-term follow-up in the reconstruction o

The rehabilitation of patient function and esthetics is essential from a social and psychological point of view. After a maxillary resection, the supporting structures that help provide retention or stability to a removable prosthesis are lacking. An effective, functional, straightforward, comfortable, and esthetic prosthetic rehabilitation of a patient with a resected maxilla using a digital workflow is presented. The rehabilitation was done using a computer-aided design and computer-aided manufactured bar and clip-supported overdenture prosthesis over quad zygomatic implants.

Dental abnormalities associated with ectodermal dysplasia (ED) can result in severe functional and esthetic problems. To correct these problems, dental implants have increasingly become the treatment of choice. This patient study illustrates the use of implants to rehabilitate a 20-year-old ED patient who initially presented with only 2 permanent and 6 primary teeth in the maxilla. Along with conventional endosseous implants, 2 specially designed zygomatic implants were utilized to avoid the need for bone grafting in the patient's severely resorbed maxilla. This expedited achievement of the fi

The use of implants to replace missing teeth is now commonplace and practised by clinicians worldwide in both general and specialist practice. There is an abundance of evidence on the general success of implant treatment. As well as reviewing the history of dental implants, this narrative review will discuss the merits and successful placement of tissue-level verses bone-level implants. Furthermore, the article will evaluate the concept and benefits of platform switching for implant treatment. Finally, with the increased placement of implants, this narrative paper will review how different tit

OBJECTIVES: To develop a new preclinical model to study early implant loss, where local infection conditions would impair the implant osseointegration.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Forty-eight smooth, 2.9-mm diameter experimental implants were placed in the mandible of 8 beagle dogs (3 in each side). In half of the animals (test group, n = 24 implants), the implants received ligatures around the implant-abutment connection. In the other half, no ligatures were placed (control group, n = 24 implants). Four weeks later, implants were extracted in a flapless approach and standard 3.3-mm diameter SLAct
