A Critical Evaluation of Contextual Factors Affecting the Implementation of Pharmacist-Led Colorectal Cancer Screening: A Scoping Narrative Hybrid Review.

INTRODUCTION: Colorectal cancer (CRC) is among the most preventable cancers and causes more than 50,000 deaths annually in the US. Screening disparities persist in rural versus urban populations and in populations with inadequate access to care. Community pharmacies, given their accessibility and trusted role in preventive care, represent a promising setting to expand CRC screening. METHODS: This scoping narrative hybrid review followed the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses Extension for Scoping Reviews (PRISMA-ScR) guidelines and the Arksey and O'Malley frame

Expanding physical assessment education in pharmacy curricula: A qualitative study to identify and implement high-value skills for clinical practice.

BACKGROUND: The expanding scope of pharmacy practice and the growing demand for accessible frontline healthcare underscore the importance of integrating physical assessment (PA) skills into pharmacy curricula. While basic vital signs are commonly taught, the inclusion of more advanced PA skills remains inconsistent, and little is known about how these skills should be prioritized within entry-to-practice programs. OBJECTIVE: To explore pharmacy educators' and practitioners' perspectives on the prioritization of PA skills in undergraduate pharmacy education and to identify key barriers and fac

Using linked electronic medical record-pharmacy data to examine lupus medication adherence: A retrospective cohort study.

INTRODUCTION: Medication nonadherence is common in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and associated with morbidity and mortality. We explored the reliability of pharmacy data within the electronic medical record (EMR) to examine factors associated with nonadherence to SLE medications. METHODS: We included patients with SLE who were prescribed ≥1 SLE medication for ≥90 days. We compared two datasets of pharmacy fill data, one within the EMR and another from the vendor who obtained this information from pharmacies and prescription benefit managers. Adherence was defined by medication possessio

The 2024 Saudi Pharmacotherapy Didactic Curriculum Toolkit: A Modified Delphi Study.

BACKGROUND: Several pharmacy schools in Saudi Arabia (S.A.) refer to the American College of Clinical Pharmacy (ACCP) pharmacotherapy toolkit in developing their pharmacotherapy curriculum. However, the ACCP toolkit does not specifically address the healthcare needs of the Saudi population. A tailored pharmacotherapy curriculum that offers graduates the essential competencies to better serve the nation's needs is warranted. This study aims to develop a population-centered didactic pharmacotherapy toolkit for the Saudi population to assist pharmacy schools in designing pharmacotherapy course co

An assessment of the malaria-related knowledge and practices of Tanzania's drug retailers: exploring the impact of drug store accreditation.

BACKGROUND: Since 2003 Tanzania has upgraded its approximately 7000 drug stores to Accredited Drug Dispensing Outlets (ADDOs), involving dispenser training, introduction of record keeping and enhanced regulation. Prior to accreditation, drug stores could officially stock over-the-counter medicines only, though many stocked prescription-only antimalarials. ADDOs are permitted to stock 49 prescription-only medicines, including artemisinin combination therapies and one form of quinine injectable. Oral artemisinin monotherapies and other injectables were not permitted at any time. By late 2011 con

The influence of the pharmaceutical industry and the pharmacy sector on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health: a yarning study.

While pharmaceutical companies develop life-saving medicines and the pharmacy sector is integral to healthcare delivery, entities within the medicines sector can also operate as powerful commercial actors. The practices of the pharmaceutical industry and the pharmacy sector warrant scrutiny through a commercial determinants of health lens. This is particularly important for Indigenous peoples, who experience inequities within Western healthcare systems while also holding enduring cultural knowledge of traditional medicines. Lessons learned from two multicentre randomised controlled trials undertaken in pharmacies in community settings: a retrospective project management analysis.

BACKGROUND: Community pharmacists are the most publicly accessible health professionals in high-income countries. There is increasing interest in conducting randomised controlled trials (RCT)-the benchmark of original evidence in the medical field-in community pharmacies. However, little evidence exists examining the challenges and opportunities of conducting RCTs in pharmacies, particularly with respect to project management. In this work, we aim to provide a narrative of lessons learned in conducting two RCTs in community pharmacies in two high-income countries. METHODS: We retrospectively

Quality of online pharmacies and websites selling prescription drugs: a systematic review.

BACKGROUND: Online pharmacies are companies that sell pharmaceutical preparations, including prescription-only drugs, on the Internet. Very little is known about this phenomenon because many online pharmacies operate from remote countries, where legal bases and business practices are largely inaccessible to international research. OBJECTIVE: The aim of the study was to perform an up-to-date and comprehensive review of the scientific literature focusing on the broader picture of online pharmacies by scanning several scientific and institutional databases, with no publication time limits. Enhancing Hepatitis B case finding through tech-enhanced community pharmacy: Results from a trial program in Vietnam.

Hepatitis B virus (HBV) remains a major public health challenge in Vietnam. Barriers include limited awareness and access to screening as well as out-of-pocket diagnosis and treatment costs. Point-of-care rapid diagnostic tests (RDTs) offer an opportunity to expand screening and linkages to diagnosis and care. This intervention assessed technology-enhanced community pharmacies ability to provide HBV screening and find cases in Vietnam using digital monitoring and cross-sectional digital survey data. Between February 2024 and March 2025, SwipeRx partnered with the Vietnamese Pharmaceutical Asso

Improving Access to HIV Prevention Services in Community Pharmacies in the US Southeast: Protocol for a Hybrid Type 1 Effectiveness-Implementation Study.

BACKGROUND: Despite advancements in HIV prevention, many Americans, particularly those from historically underserved communities (eg, racially and sexually minoritized individuals and people who use drugs), continue to face significant barriers to accessing crucial HIV prevention services such as HIV testing and pre-exposure prophylaxis. Integrating these services into community pharmacies is a viable yet underused solution to overcoming access-related challenges. However, few studies have used an implementation science approach to assess the implementation and effectiveness of such services i

'Catching chlamydia': combining cash incentives and community pharmacy access for increased chlamydia screening, the view of young people.

In Australia and elsewhere, chlamydia screening rates for those aged between 16 and 30 years continue to be low. Innovative, age-appropriate approaches are necessary to increase chlamydia screening among this target group to prevent short- and long-term consequences of the infection such as pelvic inflammatory disease, chronic pelvic pain, ectopic pregnancy and infertility. Studies have demonstrated that offering chlamydia screening in community pharmacies may be a useful adjunct to current screening services. Approximately 90% of Australians visit a pharmacy at least once a year. Chlamydia sc

Use of a VA pharmacy database to screen for areas at high risk for disease: Parkinson's disease and exposure to pesticides.

The purpose of this study was to assess whether pharmacy database information from US Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) medical centers could be used to screen for areas of higher Parkinson's disease prevalence in patients exposed to pesticides. The authors used pharmacy data sets and compared the use of antiparkinsonian medications at 2 VA medical centers in California: one in Palo Alto, near the ocean, and one in Fresno, downwind from extensively farmed parts of the Central Valley. They found that patients at Fresno had higher odds ratios (1.5-1.8) for the use of Parkinson's disease medica
