Content validity was assessed through cognitive interviews, and construct validity was assessed by examining the association between dyad type and relationship mutuality. Results: Dyads completed the D-SCIT with ease, confirming content validity. Congruent dyad

Development of a Self-Care Autonomy in Health Scale for Late Adolescents.

BACKGROUND: This paper describes the development of the Self-Care Autonomy in Health Scale for Late Adolescents (SAHSLA) for use with general samples. It addresses concerns regarding the nonclinical efficacy of self-care health scales for adolescents, particularly their ability to discriminate between lower levels of self-care. METHODS: A survey was constructed based on literature review and subsequently evaluated in two studies. Parents (N = 57, 53 parents of girls, 4 of boys, Mage = 15.96) participated in Study 1, which investigated the internal with Cronbach's alpha and coefficient omega (

Typology of Self-injurious Behaviors Admitted to a Tertiary Care Hospital.

BACKGROUND: If we can classify self-injurious behaviors without a priori assumptions about related variables, it could contribute to the nosology of self-injurious behaviors with etiological and management underpinnings. METHODS: A cross-sectional study was conducted among 90 adult subjects consecutively admitted to the medical and surgical wards of a tertiary care center. In addition to socio-demographic and relevant clinical variables, intent, lethality, impulsivity, social support, and stressful life events were measured. K-means cluster analysis was used to delineate groups. RESULTS: Hie

Educational needs of self-care in cachectic cancer patients and caregivers.

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: To give an overview of what is known about the educational component of supportive care for people with cancer cachexia and their family caregivers. RECENT FINDINGS: The educational needs for self-care by people with cancer cachexia are largely unmet. There is potential for education to enable self-care that mitigates cachexia-related distress with benefit to quality of life and mitigates malnutrition/malnutrition risk with implications for treatment tolerance and outcomes. Theoretically informed approaches to cancer cachexia education for patients and their family members

Self-management and independence guidelines for the care of people with spina bifida.

Self-management and independence behaviors are associated with improved health conditions common to spina bifida such as skin integrity and bowel and bladder management. While most children with spina bifida ultimately achieve basic self-care behaviors, (e.g., dressing appropriately, planning activities with peers, or cooking pre-planned meals), they often lag 2-5 years behind their typically-developing peers in these activities [1]. Valid and reliable condition-specific assessments of self-management and independence are critical to optimizing outcomes for this population. Partnerships among

The performing of special health-deviation self-care is important for the successful treatment and prevention of this chronic disease. This study aimed to validate a newly designed instrument for the measurement of specific self-care. The "Wittener Aktivitätenkatalog der Selbstpflege bei venös bedingten offenen Beinen" (WAS-VOB) (a catalogue containing self-care activities for venous leg ulcer) was conceptualized on the basis of Orem's theory and on pathophysiological processes.
