Age, training, and previous experience predict race performance in long-distance inline skaters, not anthropometry.

The association of characteristics of anthropometry, training, and previous experience with race time in 84 recreational, long-distance, inline skaters at the longest inline marathon in Europe (111 km), the Inline One-eleven in Switzerland, was investigated to identify predictor variables for performance. Age, duration per training unit, and personal best time were the only three variables related to race time in a multiple regression, while none of the 16 anthropometric variables were related. Anthropometric characteristics seem to be of no importance for a fast race time in a long-distance i

A higher paternal ultra-processed food consumption is directly associated with parameters of neonatal anthropometry.

The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of paternal consumption of ultra-processed foods (UPF) on neonatal anthropometry and adiposity. We hypothesized that higher paternal consumption of UPF could influence neonatal anthropometry and adiposity. Prospective cohort nested within a randomized controlled trial for pregnant women with overweight was conducted in the primary health care of a Brazilian municipality. UPF consumption was estimated through two 24-hour dietary recalls, following the NOVA classification. Data on birth weight and length were obtained and neonatal anthrop

Motor and cognitive development is associated with anthropometry and severe zinc deficiency in infants, in rural Madagascar.

Globally, more than 250 million children under five fail to reach their developmental potential, with malnutrition representing a major contributing factor. In Madagascar, as in many low- and middle-income countries, malnutrition remains a serious public health concern. Although the high prevalence of micronutrient deficiencies, stunting, and wasting is well documented, their consequences for early motor and cognitive development, which can be assessed reliably by six months, are less studied. In 2019, a baseline data collection prior to intervention as part of a randomized controlled trial co

Anthropometry and the Risk of Breast Cancer in Moroccan Women: A Large Multicentric Case-Control Study.

Although evidence suggests adiposity as a modifiable risk factor for postmenopausal breast cancer (BC), its association with premenopausal BC remains uncertain. This potential differential relationship for menopausal status has been insufficiently investigated in the Moroccan population due to limited data. This study aims to assess the relationship between various indicators of adiposity and the risk of BC among Moroccan women by menopausal status. A multicenter case-control study was conducted in Morocco between December 2019 and August 2023, including 1400 incident BC cases and 1400 matched

Loss of Anthropometry-Lipids Relationship in Obese Adults: A Cross-Sectional Study in Southern China.

BACKGROUND: Emerging data suggest that the interpretation of the association between obesity and lipids appears to be oversimplified. This study aimed to quantify the complex relationships between anthropometric indices and lipid profile. METHODS: This is a cross-sectional study including 9620 participants in Southern China. Anthropometric indices included the indices of general obesity (ie, body mass index (BMI)) and central obesity (ie, waist circumference (WC) and waist-to-hip ratio (WHR)). Lipids included low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDLc) and atherogenic lipids (ie, high-density

Assessment of nutritional status in children with cancer: Significance of arm anthropometry and serum visceral proteins.

BACKGROUND: Arm anthropometry is a better indicator of nutritional status in children with cancer. The value of serum albumin and prealbumin in nutritional assesment is debatable. We investigated the nutritional status of children with cancer and their serum albumin and prealbumin levels. PATIENTS AND METHODS: At diagnosis and following induction therapies, weight, height, body mass index (BMI), mid-upper arm circumference (MUAC), and triceps skin-fold thickness (TSFT) were measured; serum albumin and prealbumin levels were determined. Prevalences of malnutrition defined by anthropometric ind

Age-Related Association of Calcitonin with Parameters of Anthropometry, Bone and Calcium Metabolism during Childhood.

INTRODUCTION: The thyroid parafollicular hormone calcitonin (CT) shows particularly high blood levels in early childhood, a period of high bone turnover, which decrease with increasing age. Data about the physiological role of CT during infancy, childhood, and adolescence are contradictory or lacking. OBJECTIVE: We hypothesize that CT demonstrates age-related correlations with parameters of bone growth and turnover as well as with parameters of calcium homeostasis. METHODS: 5,410 measurements of anthropometric data and venous blood samples were collected from 2,636 participants of the LIFE C

A Preliminary Study on the Safety of Elastography during Pregnancy: Hypoacusia, Anthropometry, and Apgar Score in Newborns.

Transient or acoustic radiation force elastography (ARFE) is becoming the most extended technology to assess cervical effacement, additionally to the Bishop test and conventional ultrasound. However, a debate on the fetal safety has been opened due to the high intensity focused beam emitted to produce shear waves. This work is aimed at providing preliminary data to assess clinical effects of fetal exposure. A follow-up study in newborns of 42 women exposed to ARFE during pregnancy was carried out to explore neonatal hypoacusia, Apgar test, and anthropometry. No hypoacusia cases attributable to

Body Anthropometry and Bone Strength Conjointly Determine the Risk of Hip Fracture in a Sideways Fall.

We hypothesize that variations of body anthropometry, conjointly with the bone strength, determine the risk of hip fracture. To test the hypothesis, we compared, in a simulated sideways fall, the hip impact energy to the energy needed to fracture the femur. Ten femurs from elderly donors were tested using a novel drop-tower protocol for replicating the hip fracture dynamics during a fall on the side. The impact energy was varied for each femur according to the donor's body weight, height and soft-tissue thickness, by adjusting the drop height and mass. The fracture pattern, force, energy, stra

[Body mass index in a group of Venezuelan pregnant women and its relationship with the newborns' anthropometry].

To assess the relationship between maternal body mass index (BMI) at early gestation and the newborns' anthropometry, 105 mother-infant dyads from a public Maternity Hospital in Valencia Venezuela, were studied during 1998-2000. Weight and height of adult women between 10 and 15 weeks of gestation were used to calculate BMI according to Atalah's reference (Low weight, Normal, Over weight). Term newborns were assessed using gestational age calculated according to the Capurro method. Their weight, height, and head circumference were recorded, and were characterized using a Venezuelan reference.

Anthropometry-aware chest-worn inertial sensing for pediatric activity assessment using a school-badge device.

Objective assessment of physical activity in children and adolescents supports school health surveillance and the evaluation of behavioral interventions, but wearable recognition models are typically developed on adults, public benchmarks, or sample-level data splits that do not test performance on new users. Baseline models also encode the inertial stream alone and carry no description of the individual, leaving developmental differences in body size and movement execution uncorrected. This study developed the Anthropometry-Aware Temporal Attention DeepConvLSTM (AATA-DeepConvLSTM) model for s

Investigating the association between anthropometry and colorectal cancer survival: a two-sample Mendelian randomization analysis.

BACKGROUND: Observational epidemiologic studies on the association of anthropometric traits and colorectal cancer (CRC) survival provide inconsistent results, and potential limitations prohibit the investigation of causality. We examined the associations between seven genetically predicted anthropometric traits [height, body mass index (BMI), waist circumference (WC), hip circumference (HC), waist-hip circumference ratio, birth weight and body fat percentage] and CRC-specific mortality among CRC cases using two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR). METHODS: Analyses were performed using 16 964
