Behcet's disease is a chronic inflammatory syndrome that can affect arteries and veins of all sizes and is an unusual cause of myocardial infarction. We report a case of a 42-year-old male with no cardiovascular risk factors who was referred to our department for a spontaneously resolving anterior ST-elevation myocardial infarction. Clinical and biological investigations revealed a high probability for Behcet's disease. The coronary angiogram showed severe left main artery stenosis with a huge coronary aneurysm of the proximal left anterior descending coronary artery, which was treated by aneu

Pulmonary and/or bronchial aneurysm with systemic thrombophlebitis can be seen in the case of both Behcet's disease and Hughes-Stovin syndrome. These two diseases may be indistinguishable since the clinical, radiological, and histopathological findings are similar in both cases. In particular, from the perspective of pulmonary involvement, hemoptysis is the leading cause of death in both conditions and is followed by aneurysmal rupture. Here, we report a case in which surgical resection was performed for a patient presenting recurrent hemoptysis as an atypical presentation of Behcet's disease.

"MAGIC syndrome" (Mouth And Genital ulcers with Inflamed Cartilage) has been proposed to describe patients with clinical features of both relapsing polychondritis and Behcet disease. A total of 18 cases have been reported with only 1 case associated with aneurysmal aortitis described in 1997. Herein, we describe a patient with MAGIC syndrome complicated by aneurysmal aortitis requiring cardiothoracic surgery and intensive immunosuppression. Monitoring for the possible development of inflammatory aortic aneurysms should thus be considered in patients with MAGIC syndrome who have persistently el

Behçet syndrome is a chronic, recurring, systemic disorder characterized by the histopathologic finding of nonspecific vasculitis in multiple organs. Behçet syndrome involves the gastrointestinal tract in 10-50% of patients; The main sites of involvement are the terminal ileum and cecum. In patients with Behçet syndrome, CT is advocated for early detection of complications as well as for exclusion of other abdominal pathologic conditions but there is no specific exam. The report of histology in conjunction with the clinical history and the presence of oral ulcers, uveitis and suspected cutaneo

Behcet's disease is an autoimmune disease most commonly seen in the Middle East. Although primarily known with painful oral and genital ulcers, it can lead to vasculitis. Therefore, several associated complications such as thrombotic syndromes, aneurysmal arterial disease may arise. In many cases, it might be difficult to make the diagnosis purely based on clinical grounds; however, imaging plays an important role for both diagnosis and assessment of the disease's complications. We provide a comprehensive review of the most notable imaging findings of Behcet's disease.

Behcet's disease (also called Admantiades-Behcet syndrome) is a chronic vasculitis. The disease is characterized by exacerbations and remissions of symptoms and organ manifestations and may produce only mild mucocutaneous lesions, whereas ocular lesions can cause blindness. In addition, involvement of the gastrointestinal tract, central nervous system (CNS) and large blood vessels is sometimes life-threatening. Cyclosporin A is the only agent for treatment of ocular lesions registered in Germany; however, the neurotoxicity and nephrotoxicity restrict usage of the drug. In patients suffering fr

Fever of unknown origin in children follows two main clinical patterns, namely fever of unknown origin and chronic episodic fever of unknown origin. Fever of unknown origin is characterized by daily fever persisting for more than 3 weeks. The main causes are infectious, rheumatologic disorders, and malignancy. Chronic episodic fever of unknown origin is characterized by fever lasting for a few days to a few weeks, followed by a fever-free interval and a sense of well-being. The main causes are familial Mediterranean fever, the hyper-immunoglobulin D syndrome, familial Hibernian fever, Behcet d

Mass lesions of the brain are not always a tumor. We report the case of a patient followed for Behcet syndrome presenting with expansive intracranial process revealed by right hemiparesis associated with signs of intracranial hypertension. Brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) showed a lesion suggesting glial tumor. Clinical and radiological assessments as well as laboratory tests helped to establish the diagnosis of pseudo-tumor form of neuro-Behçet disease. This study report is followed by a clinical analysis based on the available literature on this disorder.

Oral signs are frequently the first manifestation of autoimmune diseases. For this reason, dentists play an important role in the detection of emerging autoimmune pathologies. Indeed, an early diagnosis can play a decisive role in improving the quality of treatment strategies as well as quality of life. This can be obtained thanks to specific knowledge of oral manifestations of autoimmune diseases. This review is aimed at describing oral presentations, diagnosis, and treatment strategies for systemic lupus erythematosus, Sjögren syndrome, pemphigus vulgaris, mucous membrane pemphigoid, and Beh

Multiple sclerosis is a chronic demyelinating disorder of the central nervous system. There are many cases of multiple sclerosis - like syndrome and demyelinating disorders in systemic lupus erythematosus, Sjogren disease, Behcet disease and other autoimmune conditions. Coexistence of ankylosing spondylitis and multiple sclerosis usually is rare but in this article we report 4 Russian patients with concomitant multiple sclerosis and ankylosing spondylitis diseases. None of these patients received anti-tumor necrosis factor alpha therapy prior to diagnosis of multiple sclerosis. Pathogenesis, d

Significant progress has been made in our understanding of the underlying cellular and molecular mechanisms associated with vasculitis. Simultaneous involvement of the nervous system and systemic organs points to shared antigenic targets or immune mechanisms operative at both sites. Although specific immunotherapy is not available, the old and new immunomodulatory therapies have been instrumental in providing effective therapy in most of these chronic autoimmune disorders. The treatment of giant cell arteritis, neurosarcoidosis, Wegener's granulomatosis, systemic lupus erythematosus, polyarter

A 39-year-old diabetic female with Behcet's disease presented with acute inferior wall myocardial infarction and underwent successful angioplasty of the occluded circumflex artery with a bare-metal stent (balancing increased the bleeding risk with Behcet's). Other coronary vessels were free of obstructive atherosclerosis. Optimal coronary artery disease (CAD) therapy was commenced, and Behcet's disease treatment was intensified with the normalization of C-reactive protein. Two years later, she presented with an acute left anterior descending artery occlusion that was managed with a drug-elutin

Behcet's syndrome (BS) is a chronic relapsing vascular inflammatory disease of unknown etiology with high morbidity and mortality. This research aims to study the clinical patterns of CNS disease in a group of patients with BS as well as the frequency and type of the associated radiographic findings suggestive of structural cerebral vascular disease. The findings were studied in relation to disease activity and features of systemic vascular involvement. Forty patients fulfilling the diagnostic criteria of the International Study Group for Behcet's Disease, mean age of 33.56 ± 9.7 years, were e

PURPOSE: To investigate the relationship between serum SIL-2R levels and uveitis.
METHODS: SIL-2R levels were measured in sera of 64 patients with active uveitis by ELISA assay, 61 healthy subjects as control.
RESULTS: Serum SIL-2R levels in the patients with active uveitis were significantly higher than that in the controls, but there were no significant difference among anterior uveitis, intermediate uveitis, Behcet disease and Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada syndrome. After therapy the serum SIL-2R levels were obviously decreased.
CONCLUSION: SIL-2R Levels in serum correlate with activity of uveiti

BACKGROUND: Behcet's, a systemic autoimmune vasculitis, often leads to cardiovascular complications sunch as valvular damage and aortic root pseudoaneurysms. Concurrent involvement of all four cardiac valves is exceptionally rare, posing significant surgical challenges due to tissue fraagility, inflammatory destruction, and high reoperation risks.
OBJECTIVE: To describe a tailored surgical strategy for quadruple replacement in a Behcet's syndrome patient with extensive valvular lesions, aortic root pseudoaneurysm, and prior mechanical valve failure, emphasizing techniques to address anatomica
