[An experimental study on dental pulp histology after the inferior alveolar nerve damage and autogenous nerve graft].

The dental pulpal histology was studied experimentally in rabbits after the inferior alveolar neurovascularity damage and nerve graft. The results revealed that the dental vitality was gradually repaired at different intervals after the inferior alveolar neurovascularity damage. In the early damaged period the pulpal blood vessels were reduced in number and some of them were swollen and permeable, in the late period the structure of the microvascular system became normal and abundant. The pulpal architecture was altered in the initial stage and with the tendency to repair gradually. The pulpal

Comparison of Gene Expression of Different Isoforms of Osteopontin in Symptomatic Irreversible Pulpitis of Human Dental Pulp.

INTRODUCTION: Osteopontin (OPN), plays an important role in immune system modulation. OPN can activate osteoclasts, thus causing resorption of bone. In addition, it might have a protective function against polymicrobial endodontic infections. Since different isoforms of OPN might have diverse roles, the aim of the present study was to compare gene expression of different isoforms of osteopontin in symptomatic irreversible pulpitis and normal pulps of the human dental pulp. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Pulps were taken from 20 teeth with symptomatic irreversible pulpitis as the case group and from 2

Dental application potential of mesenchymal stromal cells and embryonic stem cells.

In the past decade, research on the potential applications of stem cells in dentistry has made great progress. There are at least five different types of multipotent mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) originating from exfoliated primary teeth, including dental pulp, apica papilla, periodontal ligament, and dental follicle. It has been reported that dental tissue-derived MSCs are able to generate dentine-pulp-like complexes as well as differentiate into periodontal and craniofacial progenitor cells. Similar to these dental tissue-derived MSCs, bone marrowderived MSCs are also capable of developin

Biocompatibility of an adhesive system applied to exposed human dental pulp.

Human pulp tissue was directly capped with All Bond 2, or calcium hydroxide and evaluated 7, 30, or 60 days after the procedures. Histological analysis was performed to assess the inflammatory cell response, tissue disorganization, dentin bridging, and the presence of bacteria. At 7 days, with All Bond 2 capping, there was a large area of neutrophilic infiltrate underlying the pulp capping material, and the death of adjacent odontoblasts, was observed. However, with time, the neutrophilic reaction was replaced by fibroblastic proliferation with macrophages and giant cells surrounding globules

Juvenile primary extranasopharyngeal angiofibroma, presenting as cheek swelling.

BACKGROUND: Dental pulp inflammation is a very complex process due to its situation in low compliance (confined environment) surrounded by mineralized dentin. Mast cells are one of the mediators of inflammation. Immunohistochemical localization of mast cells by anti-tryptase antibodies in formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded sections has been shown to be highly specific. The aim of the present study is to quantify the mast cells in inflamed and noninflamed human pulp tissue using immunohistochemical analysis. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Immunohistochemical localization of mast cells by anti-tryptase a

Treatment of vital teeth involved in the extension of inflammatory radicular cysts: a systematic review.

UNLABELLED: An inflammatory radicular cyst (IRC) is an odontogenic cyst associated to a non-vital tooth, which may affect sound teeth. There is lack of consensus on whether to perform endodontic treatment on teeth involved in the extension of the lesion prior to surgical treatment. AIM: To identify and quantify the therapies most often used on teeth with positive response to pulp tests that are involved in the extension of an IRC, and analyze the criteria upon which different authors based their decisions. Identify and evaluate the reliability of the dental pulp tests used for evaluation and

The diagnosis, classification and treatment of acute pulpal pain by UK general dental practitioners: results of a survey.

There are several problems related to the diagnosis and treatment of the acute painful tooth associated with a deep carious lesion, including the fact that there is little or no correlation between the clinical signs and symptoms and also that the diagnostic tools are not reliable. It is important to understand the problems experienced by dental practitioners and how they routinely make diagnosis and formulate treatment plans. The way general dental practitioners diagnosed, categorised and treated teeth with acute pain was ascertained by a questionnaire completed by practitioners attending pos

Evaluation of treatment and restoration preferences in deep carious teeth with various pulp exposure sizes: A questionnaire-based survey.

This study evaluated the management preferences in a deep carious vital tooth. A questionnaire was e-mailed to members of the Turkish Dental Association. The questionnaire included a photograph and radiographs of an extremely deep carious molar (#16) of a 30-year-old man suffering from cold and chewing sensitivity. The dentists were asked to choose treatments for pulp exposure of <1, 1-2, and ≥2 mm and a permanent restoration. Chi-squared test was used to analyse data (p < 0.05). 504 (4.84%) of 10 411 dentists responded. When the pulp exposure was <1 mm: direct pulp capping (84.9%); 1-2 mm: ro

EZH2, a potential regulator of dental pulp inflammation and regeneration.

INTRODUCTION: Dental pulp has limited capability to regenerate, which happens in the early stage of pulpitis. An ambiguous relationship exists; inflammation may impair or support pulp regeneration. Epigenetics, which is involved in cell proliferation and inflammation, could regulate human dental pulp cell (HDPCs) regeneration. The aim of this study was to determine the role of the epigenetic mark, enhancer of zeste homolog 2 (EZH2), in the inflammation, proliferation, and regeneration of dental pulp. We used trimethylated histone H3 lysine 27(H3K27me3) and its lysine demethylase 6B (KDM6B) to

Association between Experimental Bacterial Meningitis and Periapical Lesion.

INTRODUCTION: Mortality and morbidity from bacterial meningitis in African adults is significantly higher than those in better resourced settings. At the same time, the periodontal diseases are highly prevalent and can affect up to 90% of the population. Dental caries in Uganda was recorded in 40% and 62.5% of the children and adults, respectively. We hypothesize that pneumococcal meningitis could interfere in the development of periapical lesion. The aim of this study was to evaluate periapical lesion in Wistar rats subjected to pneumococcal meningitis. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The animals wer

Blockade of connexin43-containing hemichannel attenuates the LPS-induced inflammatory response in human dental pulp cells by inhibiting the extracellular flux of ATP and HMGB1.

INTRODUCTION: Tissue repair can be promoted by moderate inflammation but suppressed by excessive levels. Therefore, control of excessive inflammation following removal of infection plays a critical role in promotion of pulpal repair. Connexin 43 (Cx43) forms hemichannels (HCs) or gap channels (GJs) to facilitate the delivery of small molecules between cells to regulate both inflammation and repair. Understanding the role of Cx43 in dental pulp may help develop a potential strategy to attenuate the inflammation and promote the formation of reparative dentin in deep caries. METHODS: We firstly

Comparisons of student comprehension of 3D-printed, standard model, and extracted teeth in hands-on sessions.

INTRODUCTION: Cavity preparation and direct and indirect pulp capping are difficult processes to learn in dentistry. Although plastic teeth are used in universities in Turkey, the standard model does not teach students how to distinguish between dental hard tissues from caries and how this relates to the pulp. The aim of this study was to investigate the differences in learning when a three-dimensional (3D)-printed tooth was employed in comparison with the standard model and extracted teeth. The differences are evaluated in the design, feasibility, and contribution of the 3D-printed dental too

Altered coronal tissue of the human dental pulp in chronic hepatitis C virus infected patients.

INTRODUCTION: Hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection is characterized by a high rate of chronicity and concerns 170 million individuals worldwide. Extrahepatic manifestations are frequently observed in patients with chronic viral hepatitis. Although extrahepatic manifestations do exist with all hepatitis viruses, they are more commonly associated with chronic HCV infection. This study aimed to evaluate qualitatively and quantitatively the effect of chronic HCV infection on the coronal tissue of the human dental pulp. METHODS: Thirty sound impacted teeth were obtained from healthy individuals as he
