OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the orthodontic treatment outcome in patients with impacted maxillary central incisor in the mixed dentition.
METHODS: Nine patients, aged 8 to 11 years, with impacted maxillary central incisor were treated orthodontically. The cone-beam CT(CBCT) was taken before treatment, after treatment and one year out of retention to evaluate the root length, root canal wall thickness, width of the apical foramen, and degree of root bending, alveolar bone height and thickness. The crown-to-root ratio was calculated. The periodontal and endodontic conditions were evaluated. The para

The cyst in mixed dentition stage cause expansion of buccal cortex, displacement of teeth and may present as case of infection. The cyst in periradicular region of deciduous molar are of frequent occurrence. The differential diagnosis of this lesion is radicular cysts of deciduous molar: developmental or infammatory dentigerous cyst of corresponding unerupted premolar. After going through the available literature of radicular cyst of deciduous molars and dentigerous cysts of developing premolars in mixed dentition we studied the five cases of cyst in periradicular region of deciduous molars in

INTRODUCTION: In this prospective longitudinal study, we compared the prevalence of mandibular second molar eruption difficulties in patients treated with appliances to maintain mandibular arch perimeter. Other independent variables (age, molar angulation, space-width ratio, treatment time, and sex) were tested for their value as predictors of eruption difficulty.
METHODS: Three hundred one patients and subjects were divided into 4 groups: patients treated with a Schwarz appliance, patients treated with a mandibular lingual holding arch, patients treated with a combination of both appliances,

It is important to recognize the development of an arch-width problem in pediatric patients and to determine the best time to treat it. One of these conditions is the posterior (buccal) crossbite where one may also find an exaggerated overjet, caused by maxillary excess, and/or mandibular width deficiency. One may also find a mandibular midline deviation on the side of the crossbite, creating a long-term orthopedic problem with a mild facial asymmetry. When correction of this condition is attempted in adulthood a poor results can be expected making this the most important reason for early trea

INTRODUCTION: The pendulum appliance allows for rapid molar distalization without the need for patient compliance. Its efficiency has been confirmed in a number of clinical studies. However, the potential interactions and positional changes between the deciduous molars used for dental anchorage and the erupted and unerupted permanent teeth have yet to be clarified when this appliance is used for molar distalization in the mixed dentition.
METHODS: Twenty-nine patients in the mixed dentition each received a modified pendulum appliance with a distal screw and a preactivated pendulum spring for

INTRODUCTION: Malocclusion, a dental abnormality commonly found in children, has been associated with a risk of developing other occlusion problems. In the literature, no comparison has been made as to whether children with mixed or permanent dentition are more predisposed to occlusion problems from malocclusion. The present study aims to investigate various occlusion problems that may arise later in life due to malocclusion.
METHODS: This cross-sectional study included 500 children below the age of 12 years at Taibah University Hospital (Aug 2024-April 2025). Convenience sampling was used to

The management of malocclusion during the mixed dentition is a crucial time for preventive and interceptive orthodontic intervention, given the complex interactions among craniofacial growth, tooth eruption, and orofacial function. Despite widespread use of early orthodontic treatment, uncertainty still remains about the optimal timing, choice of appliance, and long-term stability. This review collates recent evidence and proposes a functional-preventive approach to managing malocclusion in the mixed dentition, emphasizing risk assessment, etiologic control, and individualized treatment planni

Objectives: The intricate relationship between malocclusions and speech sound disorders (SSDs) is yet to be fully understood. This is particularly true for pediatric patients during the deciduous and mixed dentition stages. Employing a methodical scoping review approach, this study scrutinizes the recent literature to elucidate how these dental misalignments impact speech articulation and phonetic clarity. Methods: The present scoping review has been conducted following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses extension for Scoping Reviews (PRISMA-ScR) guidelines.

AIMS AND BACKGROUND: Clear aligners have become a popular orthodontic treatment option due to their esthetic appeal. However, their efficacy in managing malocclusions during mixed dentition, a developmental stage involving both primary and permanent teeth, has not been fully explored. This review aims to evaluate the effectiveness of clear aligners in treating malocclusions in mixed dentition and compares them to traditional orthodontic methods such as fixed appliances and myofunctional devices.
METHODS: A scoping review was conducted using Arksey and O'Malley's framework and the preferred re

Anterior open bite (AOB) is a complex malocclusion prevalent in the mixed dentition, with multifactorial etiology involving skeletal, dental, and habitual components. Early intervention during this developmental stage is advocated to correct the malocclusion and guide growth, but the most effective and stable approaches remain debated. This systematic review aims to evaluate the efficacy of early orthodontic and orthopedic interventions for correcting AOB in the mixed dentition. A systematic search was conducted across four electronic databases (PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, and ClinicalTria

The presence of double mesiodens or mesiodentes, i.e., two supernumerary teeth in the maxillary midline, presents unique challenges in mixed dentition. Common clinical manifestations include delayed eruption, midline diastema, and occlusal disturbances, leading to complications such as root resorption, pathological migration of tooth, crowding, cyst formation, and malocclusion. Mesiodens can be associated with several syndromes, like cleidocranial dysplasia, familial adenomatous polyposis, trichorhinophalangeal syndrome, type I, Rubinstein-Taybi syndrome, and Nance-Horan syndrome, among others

This is the first of two papers outlining the orthodontic management of patients with cleft lip and palate. This paper will review orthodontic input into children with cleft lip and palate from birth to the late mixed dentition before definitive orthodontics. It will emphasise the importance of timing in alveolar bone grafting, the role of the general dental practitioner and the impact of timing on definitive orthodontic outcome.

Objective. The objective of this retrospective chart review study was twofold. The first was to determine whether there is a correlation between the degree of overjet and the type of anterior traumatic dental injury (ATDI) in the mixed dentition. The second was to assess whether the decision to not treat young patients with prominent upper front teeth for trauma prevention resulted in a greater number of ATDI's in patients of record from a single-center. Study Design. The authors conducted a retrospective chart review of patients presenting to the Boston Children's Hospital (BCH) Emergency Dep
