DynPeak: an algorithm for pulse detection and frequency analysis in hormonal time series.

The endocrine control of the reproductive function is often studied from the analysis of luteinizing hormone (LH) pulsatile secretion by the pituitary gland. Whereas measurements in the cavernous sinus cumulate anatomical and technical difficulties, LH levels can be easily assessed from jugular blood. However, plasma levels result from a convolution process due to clearance effects when LH enters the general circulation. Simultaneous measurements comparing LH levels in the cavernous sinus and jugular blood have revealed clear differences in the pulse shape, the amplitude and the baseline. Besi

A Feature Extraction Method for Seizure Detection Based on Multi-Site Synchronous Changes and Edge Detection Algorithm.

Automatic detection of epileptic seizures is important in epilepsy control and treatment, and specific feature extraction assists in accurate detection. We developed a feature extraction method for seizure detection based on multi-site synchronous changes and an edge detection algorithm. We investigated five chronic temporal lobe epilepsy rats with 8- and 12-channel detection sites in the hippocampus and limbic system. Multi-site synchronous changes were selected as a specific feature and implemented as a seizure detection method. For preprocessing, we used magnitude-squared coherence maps and

Validation of histopathology-based deep learning algorithms for detection of actionable non-small cell lung cancer biomarkers.

Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patient management relies on molecular analysis to determine eligibility for targeted therapy. Furthermore, neoadjuvant immunotherapy is primarily suitable in the absence of specific genomic alterations. However, significant challenges remain, including suboptimal molecular testing and patients being assigned to non-optimal treatment strategies. Here, we present AI classifiers for the identification of EGFR, ALK, BRAF and MET alterations directly from hematoxylin and eosin (H&E)-stained tissue using CanvOI 1.1, a digital pathology foundation model. Their perf

Accuracy of Machine Learning Algorithms Based on Electroencephalogram in Sleep Apnea Detection: Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

BACKGROUND: Sleep apnea (SA) is a serious sleep disorder, and its diagnostic gold standard, polysomnography, is costly and time-consuming. Electroencephalogram (EEG) signals, due to their direct correlation with neural activity and ease of extraction, represent a promising tool. Despite increasing research on machine learning (ML) and deep learning for EEG-based SA detection, model performance has not been consistently evaluated. OBJECTIVE: This systematic review evaluated the accuracy of ML in detecting SA from EEG data and provided an evidence base for further clinical application and futur

A stochastic approach for parameter optimization of feature detection algorithms for non-target screening in mass spectrometry.

Feature detection plays a crucial role in non-target screening (NTS), requiring careful selection of algorithm parameters to minimize false positive (FP) features. In this study, a stochastic approach was employed to optimize the parameter settings of feature detection algorithms used in processing high-resolution mass spectrometry data. This approach was demonstrated using four open-source algorithms (OpenMS, SAFD, XCMS, and KPIC2) within the patRoon software platform for processing extracts from drinking water samples spiked with 46 per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). The designed me

Development and optimization of AI algorithms for wrist fracture detection in children using a freely available dataset.

INTRODUCTION: In the field of pediatric trauma computer-aided detection (CADe) and computer-aided diagnosis (CADx) systems have emerged offering a promising avenue for improved patient care. Especially children with wrist fractures may benefit from machine learning (ML) solutions, since some of these lesions may be overlooked on conventional X-ray due to minimal compression without dislocation or mistaken for cartilaginous growth plates. In this article, we describe the development and optimization of AI algorithms for wrist fracture detection in children. METHODS: A team of IT-specialists, p

Point-of-care detection and differentiation of anticoagulant therapy - development of thromboelastometry-guided decision-making support algorithms.

BACKGROUND: DOAC detection is challenging in emergency situations. Here, we demonstrated recently, that modified thromboelastometric tests can reliably detect and differentiate dabigatran and rivaroxaban. However, whether all DOACs can be detected and differentiated to other coagulopathies is unclear. Therefore, we now tested the hypothesis that a decision tree-based thromboelastometry algorithm enables detection and differentiation of all direct Xa-inhibitors (DXaIs), the direct thrombin inhibitor (DTI) dabigatran, as well as vitamin K antagonists (VKA) and dilutional coagulopathy (DIL) with

Advanced image processing and pattern-matching algorithms assisted enzyme/hydrogel platform for dual-signal detection of glucose.

This study presents a dual-signal biosensing platform for glucose detection based on alginate hydrogel beads (AlgelBeads). Its primary innovation lies in the integration of enzyme co-encapsulation with advanced image processing and pattern-matching algorithms. Glucose oxidase, horseradish peroxidase, and bovine serum albumin-templated gold nanoclusters are co-encapsulated within the AlgelBeads, which are uniform spheres approximately 2.1 mm in diameter, featuring a unique vein-like surface pattern that provides sites for glucose recognition and substrate catalysis. Upon exposure to glucose, an

Reducing False Alarm Rates and Workload in ICUs by Improving Arrhythmia Detection Algorithms of Patient Monitoring Systems.

BACKGROUND Patient monitoring systems are widely used in intensive care units (ICUs) to monitor patient's conditions. A high false alarm rate can lead to alarm fatigue among nurses, increasing workload and stress. This study aimed to improve the accuracy of arrhythmia detection by enhancing the noise detection algorithm in patient monitoring systems and to determine whether false alarm rate and workload decreased through clinical trials. MATERIAL AND METHODS Trials were conducted on adult patients in the ICU at Yongin Severance Hospital who required continuous electrocardiogram (ECG) monitorin

Automated Baseline-Correction and Signal-Detection Algorithms with Web-Based Implementation for Thermal Liquid Biopsy Data Analysis.

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) analysis of blood plasma, also known as thermal liquid biopsy (TLB), is a promising approach for disease detection and monitoring; however, its wider adoption in clinical settings has been hindered by labor-intensive data processing workflows, particularly baseline correction. METHODS: We developed and tested two automated algorithms to address critical bottlenecks in TLB analysis: (1) a baseline-correction algorithm utilizing rolling-variance analysis for endpoint detection, and (2) a signal-detection algorithm that applies auto-

The influence of cardiac arrhythmias on the detection of heartbeats in the photoplethysmogram: benchmarking open-source algorithms.

Objective.Cardiac arrhythmias are a leading cause of mortality worldwide. Wearable devices based on photoplethysmography give the opportunity to screen large populations, hence allowing for an earlier detection of pathological rhythms that might reduce the risks of complications and medical costs. While most of beat detection algorithms have been evaluated on normal sinus rhythm or atrial fibrillation recordings, the performance of these algorithms in patients with other cardiac arrhythmias, such as ventricular tachycardia or bigeminy, remain unknown to date.Approach. ThePPG-beatsopen-source f

Comparing State-of-the-Art Deep Learning Algorithms for the Automated Detection and Tracking of Black Cattle.

Effective livestock management is critical for cattle farms in today's competitive era of smart modern farming. To ensure farm management solutions are efficient, affordable, and scalable, the manual identification and detection of cattle are not feasible in today's farming systems. Fortunately, automatic tracking and identification systems have greatly improved in recent years. Moreover, correctly identifying individual cows is an integral part of predicting behavior during estrus. By doing so, we can monitor a cow's behavior, and pinpoint the right time for artificial insemination. However,

Machine learning algorithms for the detection of spurious white blood cell differentials due to erythrocyte lysis resistance.

AIMS: Red blood cell (RBC) lysis resistance interferes with white blood cell (WBC) count and differential; still, its detection relies on the identification of an abnormal scattergram, and this is not clearly adverted by specific flags in the Beckman-Coulter DXH-800. The aims were to analyse precisely the effect of RBC lysis resistance interference in WBC counts, differentials and cell population data (CPD) and then to design, develop and implement a novel diagnostic machine learning (ML) model to optimise the detection of samples presenting this phenomenon. METHODS: WBC counts, differentials

Innovative Advances in Non-Invasive Detection Technologies for Heart Failure: Synergistic Application of Multimodal Sensing and Intelligent Algorithms.

Heart failure (HF) remains a leading global cause of chronic disease-related disability and mortality, with rising incidence driven largely by population aging. Early diagnosis is challenging because initial symptoms are often subtle and non-specific, leading to delayed detection and poor prognosis. While conventional tools such as echocardiography and B-type natriuretic peptide (BNP) testing remain diagnostic gold standards, these approaches are limited by operator dependency, restricted accessibility, and dynamic monitoring. Recent advances in artificial intelligence (AI) and cloud computing
