CONTEXT: Problem-based learning (PBL) is an educational strategy designed to enhance self-assessment, self-directed learning and lifelong learning. The present study examines a peer review programme to determine whether the impact of PBL on continuing competence can be detected in practice.
OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to establish whether McMaster graduates who graduated between 1972 and 1991 were any less likely to be identified as having issues of competence by a systematic peer review programme than graduates of other Ontario medical schools.
METHODS: We identified a total of 1166 doctor

Eighty-six students with mild disabilities living in a rural area who had graduated (n = 52) or dropped out of (n = 34) high school were interviewed at two points in time (7 months apart) about their employment, residential status, and participation in postsecondary education and training programs. Information was also collected on students' high school experiences (educational, vocational, and work) and the reasons they dropped out of school. Of the students who had graduated (Caucasian = 26, black = 25, and other = 1), 31 were male and 21 were female. Of the students who had dropped out (Cau

Are graduates of master's degree programs in occupational therapy satisfied with the content of their programs and the results of their studies? Are these programs commensurate with the needs of the occupational therapy profession in the development of skilled practitioners, educators, administrators, and researchers. These two questions provided the framework for an investigation to determine the needs, trends, strengths, and weaknesses of graduate study in occupational therapy in the United States today. The responses of 100 occupational therapists from 12 universities, 61.4 per cent of thos

Project INTERprofessional Autism Collaborative Training (INTERACT) is an interprofessional education program designed to prepare graduate students in psychology, special education, and speech-language pathology to work with autistic children with moderate to severe intellectual disabilities. The rising prevalence of autism, coupled with increased appreciation for interprofessional approaches to service delivery, indicates the need for university training programs to prepare graduate students to work interprofessionally with this population; yet descriptions of such programs and their effective

This is the final biennial update listing directories, journal articles, Web sites, and general books that aid the librarian, house officer, or medical student in finding information on medical residency and fellowship programs. The World Wide Web provides the most complete and up-to-date source of information about postgraduate training programs and specialties. This update continues to go beyond postgraduate training resources to include selected Web sites and books on curriculum vitae writing, practice management, personal finances, the "Match," certification and licensure examination prepa

BACKGROUND: The transition from undergraduate to postgraduate medical education is a crucial phase of professional development, requiring trainees to assume greater clinical responsibility and adapt to new social norms. This transition influences professional identity formation (PIF), which is important for safe practice, well-being and resilience. We conducted a scoping review to map studies of PIF during this transition and synthesise the key findings of this body of literature.
METHODS: We searched five databases for studies published between January 2000 and December 2023. Eligibility cri

BACKGROUND: Compassion is important in nutrition education and practice, particularly as students prepare for relational, ethical, and emotionally complex work, yet it remains underemphasized in graduate nutrition education. Existing curricula often prioritize technical competence, leaving gaps in the development of relational and ethical aspects of practice.
OBJECTIVE: To examine how graduate nutrition students understand and learn compassion and to identify opportunities to integrate structured compassion and self-compassion education into academic programmes.
DESIGN: Qualitative study usi

The success of the doctor of nursing practice (DNP) programs have exceeded everyone's expectations and resulted in increased interest in doctoral education in nursing. A shortage of doctorally prepared nurse educators continues to plague the profession and has a severe impact on the ability of schools of nursing to educate future generations of nurses. As a terminal degree in nursing practice, there is little focus on DNP graduates who are prepared as educators. To remedy this deficit, this article will therefore discuss and highlight (a) the significant potential of the DNP to mitigate the cu

Given the demand for anatomy instruction, it is imperative to understand the current cohort of anatomy teachers. This study aimed to delineate the demographic characteristics, academic backgrounds, and professional responsibilities of United States (U.S.) anatomy teachers. A survey was sent to teachers who were identified by their professional membership profiles. Results from 654 responses indicated that 45% of respondents identified as female and 67% identified as white. Most (68%) respondents had an academic doctoral degree. International medical graduates (IMGs) represent a large proportion of the population entering graduate medical education (GME) programs. Many of these internationally trained physicians go on to practice medicine in the United States. To be eligible for GME, IMGs must be certified by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG). The number of certificates issued by the ECFMG has varied over time and historically has exceeded the number of available training positions. More detailed longitudinal analyses are required to better understand the interwoven issues of physician s

In 1971, the National Board of Medical Examiners appointed a Committee on Goals and Priorities, with a charge to provide advice, counsel, and recommendations relative to the Board's future directions. The report of the Committee, "Evaluation in the Continuum of Medical Education", was published as a monograph in 1973. It addressed itself to issues of evaluation, certification, licensure, and accreditation throughout the entire spectrum of medical education-undergraduate, graduate, and continuing. This paper, by the chairman of the Committee which authored the report, provides a review of: (a)

INTRODUCTION: Global trends in occupational therapy practice such as telehealth, community-based practice, and culturally safe care have become integral in occupational therapy. It highlights the need for curricula that integrate emerging practices alongside core competencies of practitioners. Thus, understanding occupational therapy graduates' perspectives concerning their educational curriculum is important as it provides insights into their experiences, identifies gaps in education, and ensures alignment with evolving professional demands. These perspectives further assist in refining curri

On February 15, (1995) the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education announced that it will now require medical schools seeking accreditation to provide abortion training for all residents in obstetrics and gynecology. The new "Program Requirements for Residency Education in Obstetrics and Gynecology," approved unanimously, will take effect on January 1, 1996. According to the Council, the newly issued standards are the first to refer specifically to abortion. The language states, "Experience with induced abortion must be part of residency training, except for residents with moral o

INTRODUCTION: The public health sector is among the most in need of volunteer engagement. The medical student community may participate in many voluntary activities, such as getting involved in public health programs, organizing community health awareness events, delivering administrative support to local health authorities, or engaging in emergencies or in disaster relief operations. Prior studies demonstrated that students' involvement in extracurricular activities such as volunteering and community service projects can lower burnout, develop stress management skills, and promote leadership,

Schools of nursing are encouraged to provide a course of study offering unique educational models that support the learning needs of adult students who attained a non-nursing Bachelor's Degree prior to enrolling in nursing school, Also known as nontraditional students, graduates of these programs often go on to seek graduate degrees in nursing (McKenna and Brooks, 2018). Non-traditional students may be older and desire to complete graduate education in a timely manner. The study focus was to determine if pre-licensure BSN students can successfully complete graduate course work during their pre

The newly posted 2026 Emergency Medicine (EM) Program Requirements by the Accreditation Council of Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) creates both financial challenges and opportunities for programs and hospitals. The complexity of the federal government funding of GME through Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) makes it difficult for program and institutional Graduate Medical Education (GME) leaders to identify the financial implications of changes in clinical EM operations and curriculum design. Institutional initiation of a change in program format is best implemented with an u

BACKGROUND: Nursing graduate education in Pakistan is increasingly recognized as pivotal for producing competent clinical leaders, educators, and researchers. However, the rigorous academic and clinical demands place immense psychological pressure on students, potentially compromising their academic performance and overall well-being. While emotional intelligence and perceived support have been independently linked to academic success in international contexts, their collective influence on nursing students in Pakistan remains underexplored.
METHODS: This study employed a cross-sectional, des
