Biases in an artificial intelligence image-generator's depictions of healthy aging and Alzheimer's.

OBJECTIVE: This content analysis study investigates potential biases in image generation by 2 artificial intelligence (AI) tools, DALL-E 3 and Midjourney, in portraying older adults and individuals living with dementia. Despite widespread use of generative AI in various sectors, there is limited research on how these models might perpetuate stereotypes and stigmatization through their images. MATERIALS AND METHODS: 1056 images were generated using specified prompts categorized into 3 groups: general older adults, dementia-related, and control. Each prompt began with "photorealistic portrait"

Artificial intelligence empowered voice generation for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis patients.

Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) is a neurodegenerative disease that can result in a progressive loss of speech due to bulbar dysfunction, which can have significant negative impact on the patient's mental well-being. Alternative Augmentative Communication (AAC) strategies based on synthetic voices have been shown to assist patients in maintaining communication and improving their Quality of Life (QoL). However, such synthetic voices are often perceived as impersonal and fail to capture the unique voice and identity of the patient. To tackle this issue, combining voice banking (VB) and arti

Making Use of Artificial Intelligence-Generated Synthetic Tympanic Membrane Images.

PURPOSE: Visual Snow Syndrome (VSS) is characterized by visual perceptual distortions, potentially linked to increased neural excitability and/or decreased inhibition in the visual cortex. If present, these putative physiological abnormalities may alter motion direction sensitivity. Trailing-type palinopsia (TTP), commonly associated with VSS, may further affect motion sensitivity. This study aimed to investigate the sensitivity to direction of motion and its dependence on stimulus size in patients with VSS using the Spatial Suppression paradigm. METHODS: We assessed motion duration discrimin

The impact of risk perception on perceived benefits of generative artificial intelligence users-an empirical study based on university students.

Amid the rapid integration of generative artificial intelligence (Gen AI) into higher education, it remains unclear how the risk perception ability of university students, as a core group of users, is associated with their perceived benefits of Gen AI. To address this gap, this study develops an integrated theoretical framework drawing upon Cognitive Appraisal Theory (CAT), Protection Motivation Theory (PMT), and the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM)/UTAUT2 to explain how different dimensions of risk perception differentially influence distinct categories of perceived benefits. Governing Generative Artificial Intelligence in Anatomy Education: A Proposed Risk-Tiered Framework for Donor-Derived Material, Anatomical Fidelity, and Assessment.

Generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) is now routinely used in anatomy education to draft explanations, generate and interpret images, produce assessment items, and support feedback. Broad responsible-AI principles are well established, but they do not resolve the questions anatomy educators actually face: whether donor-derived material may be entered into an external system, what counts as adequate verification of a generated anatomical structure, and which assessment decisions must remain human. Anatomy faculty themselves report unclear governance in these areas and ask for discipline-s

Accuracy of generative artificial intelligence models in differential diagnoses of familial Mediterranean fever and deficiency of Interleukin-1 receptor antagonist.

With the increasing development of artificial intelligence, large language models (LLMs) have been utilized to solve problems in natural language processing tasks. More recently, LLMs have shown unique potential in numerous applications within medicine but have been particularly investigated for their ability in clinical reasoning. Although the diagnostic accuracy of LLMs in forming differential diagnoses has been reviewed in general internal medicine applications, much is unknown in autoinflammatory disorders. From the nature of autoinflammatory diseases, forming a differential diagnosis is c

Harnessing conversational generative artificial intelligence and natural language processing to address the colorectal cancer screening adherence gap: the Azores endeavour.

Organised colorectal cancer (CRC) screening reduces mortality, yet participation routinely falls short of policy targets, a gap most acute in structurally disadvantaged, insular, and rapidly ageing populations. The Azores, an outermost European Union archipelago, exemplifies this challenge: CRC accounts for 10% of regional cancer diagnoses and is the second leading oncological cause of potential years of life lost, with 2024 mortality (24.9 per 100,000) exceeding mainland Portugal. Despite a mature organised screening programme (ROCCRA), archipelago-wide participation stands at just 30.3%, wit

When Teens Bond With Machines: A Developmental Perspective on the New Frontier of Generative Artificial Intelligence Policy and Adolescents' Relationships.

The rapid emergence and evolution of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) chatbots is transforming the social networks of adolescents. Discussion about GenAI regulation in the United States is ongoing, but what is absent from these conversations is consideration of the developmental relational learning of adolescents, key for mental health. Recent studies show that, compared to older Americans, adolescents are disproportionately bonding with GenAI chatbots, with one in five reporting romantic human-GenAI relationships. We consider the developmental short-term and long-term challenges pos
