This prospective study examined the prevalence, clinical features, and risk factors of osteonecrosis of the femoral head among adult sickle cell disease patients in Guadeloupe. INTRODUCTION: Contacts of individuals with tuberculosis are at risk of latent infection (LTBI), which can progress to active tuberculosis. The aim of the study was to determine the incidence of tuberculosis in contacts and its risk factors in subjects with LTBI.
METHODOLOGY: This retrospective study from the tuberculosis control centre in Guadeloupe identified smear-positive tuberculosis cases and their contacts. Sickle cell disease is a serious genetic disorder affecting 1/235 births in French Guiana. This study aimed to describe the follow-up of pregnancies among sickle cell disease patients in Cayenne Hospital, in order to highlight the most reported complications. 62 records of pregnancies were analyzed among 44 females with sickle cell disease, between 2007 and 2013. Our results were compared to those of studies conducted in Brazil and Guadeloupe. BACKGROUND: Ciguatera fish poisoning (CFP) is a food-borne illness due to the consumption of reef fish containing pathogenic toxins. CFP is endemic to tropical areas and may be described in travelers in non-endemic areas.
METHODS: We describe two clusters of autochthonous cases of CFP in Paris, France. They were related to two fish caught in Guadeloupe (French West Indies) and consumed in Paris after being air-transported in a cooler. HISTORY AND SIGNS: A male patient was transferred to our hospital from the University Eye Clinic of Guadeloupe 5 days after ocular injury caused by a flying fish. Visual function was light perception. The anterior part of the eye and retina were unremarkable.
