Partnering for Vaccine Equity: A Public Health-Community Action Model to Advance Delivery of Essential Health Services.

As part of CDC's Partnering for Vaccine Equity Program, the Association of State and Territorial Health Officials worked with the National Community Action Partnership and five community action agencies (CAAs) to address disparities in adult immunization among racial and ethnic minority populations. CAAs leveraged partnerships with public health, healthcare, and other local entities to increase uptake of COVID-19 and other vaccines, while simultaneously addressing related social determinants of health. With over 1000 agencies across the United States, including state associations, CAAs are acc

Digital health literacy in safety-net primary care: a needs assessment and call to action for health equity.

BACKGROUND: Digital literacy is a crucial social determinant of health. The COVID-19 pandemic's rapid shift to digital health services has widened disparities for older adults, racial and ethnic minorities, and low-income populations. Understanding barriers to electronic medical record (EMR) use is essential for equitable care in safety-net settings. METHODS: We conducted a cross-sectional needs assessment survey (N = 204) at an urban primary care clinic in Washington Heights, New York City, serving predominantly Latino (83%), Spanish-speaking (31%), and older adult (67% aged ≥65) patients. Counting what counts: Time for an annual statistical update on neurologic health equity.

BACKGROUND: Neurologic diseases are among the leading causes of death and disability in the United States, yet the magnitude, distribution, and trajectory of neurologic disparities remain difficult to monitor across diseases and populations. OPPORTUNITY: Other fields have established powerful recurring statistical resources that have become essential references for clinicians, researchers, policymakers, and the public. For instance, the American Heart Association has produced an annual Heart Disease and Stroke Statistics Update for decades, integrating contemporary data on disease burden, ris

The Network of National COVID-19 Data Portals: public health equity through collaboration.

The network of the national COVID-19 Data Portals was developed and linked to the COVID-19 Data Portal (https://www.covid19dataportal.org/)inresponsetothe need for rapid data sharing and analysis during the 2020-2022 SARS-CoV-2 pandemic. Built on open-source code developed by the Swedish COVID-19 Data Portal (now the Swedish Pathogens Portal, www.pathogens.se) the network included 12 national portals addressing demand for local open data sharing and access, across data types and resources. It provides a robust case study of national initiatives for FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and

Measuring Structural Racism to Advance Health Equity: A Scoping Review of Quantitative Approaches.

BACKGROUND: Structural racism, the interconnected policies, institutions, and norms that systematically disadvantage communities of color, remains a core determinant of health inequities in the United States. Despite growing recognition of its impact, public health lacks standardized, validated measurement tools across contexts, limiting intervention effectiveness and policy change. METHODS: Following PRISMA guidelines, we systematically reviewed peer-reviewed studies published between January 2000 and March 2025 that quantified structural racism in relation to health outcomes in the U.S. We

Teleretinal Imaging Enhances Equity in Diabetic Eye Screening at Urban Community Health Clinics.

BACKGROUND: We evaluated the impact of a teleretinal screening program on increasing diabetic eye screening within urban community health clinics and factors associated with screening receipt. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A clinical teleophthalmology program providing teleretinal imaging for diabetic eye screening was introduced at two clinics (Clinics A and B) in an urban federally qualified health center in Madison, Wisconsin. We conducted a retrospective, cross-sectional study during the baseline (2020-2022) and teleophthalmology (2022-2024) periods and used logistic regression to identify facto

A Health Equity Workflow for Timely Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement: Making Barriers Visible.

BACKGROUND: Severe aortic stenosis is associated with morbidity and mortality when untreated, making timely valve intervention essential. Transportation, financial, dental, caregiver, and care coordination barriers may delay progression through transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) evaluation. PROJECT RATIONALE: Lake Charles Memorial Hospital identified missed appointments, variable referral progression, and inconsistent recognition of social determinants of health (SDOH) barriers during TAVR evaluation. PROJECT SUMMARY: Beginning in 2023, transportation, dental, financial, and commu
