Internet-based cognitive behavioral therapy in children and adolescents with obsessive compulsive disorder: a feasibility study.

Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is the first choice of treatment of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) in children and adolescents. However, there is often a lack of access to appropriate treatment close to the home of the patients. An internet-based CBT via videoconferencing could facilitate access to state-of-the-art treatment even in remote areas. The aim of this study was to investigate feasibility and acceptability of this telemedical approach. A total of nine children received 14 sessions of CBT. The first session took place face-to-face, the remaining 13 sessions via videoconference

Web-based treatment for infertility-related psychological distress.

Infertility has been associated with stigma and negative psychosocial functioning. However, only a small proportion of this population actually receives care. Fertility patients predominantly use the Internet for information gathering, social support, and assistance with decision-making; yet, available web resources are unreliable sources of mental health care. Web-based alternatives also have the potential to assist with intervention access difficulties and may be of significant lower cost. This study evaluated the efficacy of a web-based approach to providing a cognitive behavioral intervent

Digital development and health in China: a serial pathway model through internet use and physical exercise in repeated cross-sectional surveys.

BACKGROUND: Digital exclusion extends beyond access to whether digital participation is associated with health-promoting behavior and health-related outcomes. Physical exercise may form one behavioral link between digital participation and health, but the strength of this sequence may differ across sociodemographic groups. METHODS: We harmonized the 2013, 2018, and 2023 Chinese General Social Survey, including 29,295 adults across 31 provincial-level units. These waves were deliberately selected at approximately 5-year intervals to provide repeated cross-sectional snapshots across a 10-year p

Internet-based cognitive-behavioral therapy for obsessive-compulsive disorder - a literature review.

Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is a condition in which the key symptoms are obsessive thoughts and motor compulsions. The prevalence of obsessive-compulsive disorder is about 2-3%. The issue of the effectiveness of internet-based therapeutic interventions based on cognitivebehavioral therapy (iCBT) for people suffering from obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) has not been thoroughly investigated in Poland yet. The aim of this article is to present the results of existing studies on sample iCBT programs for people with OCD and to analyze their effectiveness. In addition to reviewing the co

Internet healthcare in Chinese public hospitals: Towards high-quality development (1986-present).

BACKGROUND: Internet healthcare has become a key part of China's hospital-centered health system. Driven by "Internet Plus Healthcare", Healthy China 2030, and public-hospital high-quality development policies, it has evolved from remote consultation experiments into regulated online-offline care pathways. This review traces its development from the first documented remote medical practice in 1986 to the present, focusing on policy, institutional models, clinical evidence, governance challenges, and reform. METHODS: We conducted a structured narrative review of English- and Chinese-language s

The impact of health and technology shifts on antibiotic use among the elderly in Thailand.

The utilization of antibiotics among the geriatric population in Thailand has been markedly influenced by the COVID-19 pandemic. This investigation sought to analyze the correlation between antibiotic utilization and determinants such as pharmacy density, healthcare workforce, household internet accessibility, and income during the period of 2021-2023. A spatial examination employing panel regression was performed on data derived from Thailand's National Statistical Office Health and Welfare Survey 2023, encompassing all 77 provinces. The research scrutinized antibiotic usage trends among indi

Internet suicide searches and the incidence of suicide in young people in Japan.

Although several case reports have suggested a relationship between accessing Internet suicide sites and the incidence of suicide, the influence of the Internet on the incidence of suicide is not known. Thus, we examined the association between Internet suicide-related searches and the incidence of suicide in 20- and 30-year-old individuals in Japan. The Box-Jenkins transfer function model was applied to monthly time series data from January 2004 to May 2010 (77 months). The terms "hydrogen sulfide," "hydrogen sulfide suicide," and "suicide hydrogen sulfide suicide" at (t-11) were related to t

Lost in the net? Broadband internet and youth mental health.

How does the internet affect young people's mental health? We study this question using administrative data on the universe of cases of mental disorders diagnosed in Italian hospitals between 2001 and 2013, which we combine with broadband internet availability at the municipal level. Broadband internet access raises the prevalence of mental disorders among younger cohorts (born between 1985 and 1995) by 0.08 standard deviation units, but it does not impact older individuals (1974 and 1984). The adverse effects are driven by individuals who were exposed early in their lives (before the age of 2

Development of an internet version of the Lidcombe Program of early stuttering intervention: A trial of Part 1.

PURPOSE: There is evidence that access to treatment for early stuttering is not available for all who need it. An internet version of the Lidcombe Program for early stuttering (Internet-LP) has been developed to deal with this shortfall. The LP is suitable for such development because it is delivered by parents in the child's everyday environment, with training by a speech-language pathologist. A Phase I trial of Internet-LP Part 1, comprising parent training, is reported here. METHOD: Eight parents of pre-schoolers who stutter were recruited and six completed the trial. RESULT: Post-trial a

Novel metrics for quantifying bacterial genome composition skews.

BACKGROUND: Bacterial genomes have characteristic compositional skews, which are differences in nucleotide frequency between the leading and lagging DNA strands across a segment of a genome. It is thought that these strand asymmetries arise as a result of mutational biases and selective constraints, particularly for energy efficiency. Analysis of compositional skews in a diverse set of bacteria provides a comparative context in which mutational and selective environmental constraints can be studied. These analyses typically require finished and well-annotated genomic sequences. RESULTS: We pr

Health-Related Internet Use in Hard-to-Reach Populations: Empirical Findings From a Survey in a Remote and Mountainous Province in China.

BACKGROUND: The expanding use of the internet contributes to more effective searches for health-related information and opens up opportunities for direct Web-based communication with health care professionals. However, little is known about how users' characteristics on the demand side influence health-related internet use, especially in remote and rural areas within developing countries. The absence of accurate estimates of users' characteristics and their impact on adaptations of health care services in developing countries constrains focused policy-centered discussions and the design of app
