Progres en urologie : journal de l'Association francaise d'urologie et de la Societe francaise d'urologie2005fre
The authors report a case of well differentiated paratesticular liposarcoma in a 41-year-old patient. This is a rare tumour (about one hundred cases have been reported in the literature), which essentially arises from the spermatic cord. Clinical and radiological signs are nonspecific and the diagnosis is generally based on histological examination of the operative specimen. Due to the histological similarities, all specimens of benign lipoma must be examined for the presence of well differentiated liposarcoma. Treatment consists of transinguinal radical orchidectomy, sometimes with resection

Liposarcoma is one of the most common primary retroperitoneal neoplasms, and the perinephric region is a frequent location for them. Liposarcomas show a variety of radiographic features in terms of histological types and tumor sizes, so the specific diagnosis of liposarcoma is often difficult. We present a unique case of perinephric dedifferentiated liposarcoma mimicking cystic renal tumor. A 71-year-old man presented himself at our hospital with a palpable mass in his upper right abdomen. Abdominal computerized tomography (CT) revealed a well-defined cystic mass at the lower pole of the right

Well-differentiated (WD) liposarcoma accounts for about 40% to 45% of all liposarcomas therefore representing the larger subgroup of adipocytic malignancies. It tends to occur equally in the retroperitoneum or the limbs followed by the paratesticular area and the mediastinum, with a peak incidence between the fifth and the seventh decades. WD liposarcoma is further subdivided in the adipocytic (lipoma-like), sclerosing, inflammatory, and spindle cell subtypes, of which the first two are by far the commoner. WD adipocytic liposarcoma is composed of a relatively mature adipocytic proliferation,

We report a unique case of primary myxoid liposarcoma of the floor of the mouth, in which well-differentiated rhabdomyoblasts were present. The tumor was incompletely excised. The patient is free of recurrence or metastasis following a course of radiotherapy. Heterologous components found in a liposarcoma include leiomyosarcoma, rhabdomyosarcoma, chondrosarcoma, osteosarcoma, and angiosarcoma. These elements have been described mainly in dedifferentiated liposarcomas situated in the retroperitoneum. To our knowledge, there has been only one report of a liposarcoma with rhabdomyosarcomatous dif

A case of retroperitoneal liposarcoma consisting of three large nodules with three different types of histologic findings is presented. A 69-year-old man was diagnosed as having a malignant tumor in the retroperitoneum and underwent successful tumor extirpation. The resected tumor had three different type of nodules, 18 X 15 X 7.0 cm, 8 X 15 X 4.0 cm, 15 X 10 X 2.5 cm in size, respectively. The histologic examination revealed myxoid, well-differentiated fibrosing and lipoma-like liposarcoma type, respectively. Chemotherapy was undertaken postoperatively, and there is no evidence of recurrence

INTRODUCTION: Dedifferentiation occurs in approximately 10% of atypical lipomatous tumors/well-differentiated liposarcomas (ALT/WDLPS), primarily in retroperitoneal or deep-seated tumors, conferring metastatic potential. Superficial dedifferentiated liposarcoma (sDDLPS) is rare, and its progression and natural history are poorly documented.
METHODS: We performed a 15-year retrospective review of our pathology database to identify cases of DDLPS in the skin or subcutaneous tissue. Diagnosis of primary sDDLPS required evidence of non-lipogenic sarcoma in the skin or subcutis, with concurrent AL

Liposarcoma is the most common soft tissue sarcoma type in adults, originating mainly from the retroperitoneum and lower extremities. Mediastinal liposarcomas constitute an extremely rare clinical entity of mesenchymal origin. Among subtypes, dedifferentiated liposarcoma is characterized by poor survival, but little is known about its biological behavior. We present the case of a 78-year-old male patient who presented with vague symptoms, predominantly dyspnea and chest pain. Imaging revealed a large mediastinal mass and surgical resection was performed in a piecemeal manner due to the inabili

BACKGROUND: The present study took place at the antenatal clinics of the San Fernando General Hospital located in the south and the Mount Hope Maternity Hospital located in the north-west of the West Indies, respectively. Participants were from the lower socioeconomic group that included representatives from the two major ethnic groups, East Indians and people of African descent.
METHODS: We prospectively analyzed data on 201 third trimester pregnant women. All had singleton pregnancies. Culture specimens for group B streptococcus (GBS) were obtained from the rectum and anterior one-third of

Primary pleural liposarcoma (PPL) is a rare malignant tumor of the pleura. The diagnosis of PPL may be suspected on chest imaging based on radiologic features such as large pleural mass showing areas of fat with or without calcification. Herein, we present the case of a 32-year-old male whose contrast-enhanced computed tomography scan of the chest revealed a large, heterogeneous, hypodense, right pleural-based mass with small areas of fat and calcification within it. An ultrasound-guided biopsy was performed, which confirmed the diagnosis of a myxoid variant of pleural liposarcoma.

The present case report describes a rare case of pleural liposarcoma. A 45-year-old Japanese man was hospitalized for increasing left chest pain. Imaging revealed a 10-cm pleural tumor and a 1.7-cm contralateral right pulmonary nodule. Biopsy specimens of the pleural tumor showed undifferentiated spindle-shaped and/or rounded sarcomatous features with myxoid stroma. The patient underwent embolization of the arteries feeding the left pleural tumor and palliative partial resection of the pleural tumor. The surgically removed specimens exhibited similar undifferentiated sarcomatous features. The

Paratesticular liposarcoma is a rare condition characterized by a growing, painless inguinal, or scrotal mass. To our knowledge, less than 200 cases worldwide are reported thus far. It is characterized by slow growth and can reach large dimensions at diagnosis. Paratesticular well-differentiated liposarcoma has a prolonged clinical course with recurrences in more than half the cases, sometimes late. Regardless of tumor size, radical orchidectomy with free surgical margins is recommended in order to avoid recurrence. When there is tumor recurrence, reoperation is the treatment of choice because

BACKGROUND: Soft tissue sarcomas are rare and account for less than 1% of all newly diagnosed malignancies. One-third of malignant tumors arising in the retroperitoneum are sarcomas. Liposarcoma is the most common soft tissue sarcoma and retroperitoneal sarcoma. Liposarcoma accounts for at least 20% of all sarcomas in adults and up to 41% of all retroperitoneal sarcomas. Here we present the case of a huge retroperitoneal liposarcoma and a brief literature review.
CASE REPORT: A 34-year-old woman was referred to our hospital from a local clinic, because of abdominal distention, pain, and palpa

Soft tissue sarcomas represent less than 1% of all human neoplasms. One-third of malignant tumors that arise in the retroperitoneum are sarcomas and liposarcoma is the most common retroperitoneal sarcoma. More often than not, patients report late to the hospital due to the slow progress and few late symptoms. Thus, the tumor is known to grow to enormous sizes. Here, we report a case of giant retroperitoneal liposarcoma weighing more than 7 kgs.

We report a case of paraneoplastic retinopathy associated with a retroperitoneal liposarcoma. A 42-year-old man was referred to our hospital with complaints of night blindness and blurred vision in the peripheral field. Electroretinograms showed a progressive amplitude reduction in his both eyes. Abdominal magnetic resonance imaging showed a large retroperitoneal mass, and pathologic examination revealed a dedifferentiated liposarcoma. Western blot analysis showed an antiretinal antibody in the serum of our patient, and his serum reacted with the photoreceptors of a bovine retina. To the best

Dedifferentiated liposarcoma is a variant of liposarcoma with a more aggressive course. Mutations of the p53 gene have been found in different types of soft tissue sarcoma. It is generally accepted that p53 mutations in human malignant tumors are often related to a poor prognosis. In our case, analysis of p53 gene mutation in tumor samples was performed. p53 gene mutation was observed in dedifferentiated tumor tissue samples but not in well-differentiated tumor tissue samples. It has been reported that p53 gene mutation occurs most commonly in the retroperitoneum and rarely in other anatomic l

Liposarcoma is a malignancy of fat cells that occurs in deep soft tissue and mostly seen in limbs and retroperitoneum. It is the most common mesenchymal tumor of the retroperitoneum. It is detected at very late stages especially when the tumor gains substantial size, weight of several pounds at the time of diagnosis because it is grows very silently in deep tissues in the retroperitoneal area. Therefore, most of the patients with liposarcoma have no symptoms until the tumor is getting very large and pressurizes on neighboring structures which causes tenderness, pain, or functional disturbances

A 64 year-old female visited our outpatient clinic with left dull flank pain. The ultrasonography and CT scans showed the large solid mass in 12 cm in maximum diameter, containing large area of fatty element, in the left retroperitoneal space. Under the diagnosis of retroperitoneum liposarcoma, the mass and left kidney was completely removed. Pathological examination revealed the dedifferentiated liposarcoma which contained the distinct two patterns of well differentiated lipoma and dedifferentiated fibrotic sarcomatoid tissue.

INTRODUCTION: Liposarcoma is the most commonly diagnosed soft tissue sarcoma in adults and occurs predominantly in the lower limbs and retroperitoneum. Primary mediastinal liposarcomas are rare. They are often asymptomatic and when growing to large size the presenting symptoms are related to direct invasion or compression of other thoracic organs such as the heart, great vessels and lung.
CASE PRESENTATION: A case of a 68-year-old man with primary mediastinal liposarcoma involving the diaphragm and pericardium and successfully managed by complete surgical excision is presented. The patient's p
