Low back pain affects approximately 60.85% of adults during some point of their life and 10% of this is because of Lumbar Spondylosis (LS). Kati Graha which is correlated with LS is a degenerative condition affecting the discs, vertebral bodies, and/or associated joints of the lumbar spine. In current study, assessment of Eranda Muladi Yapana Basti in the management of Kati Graha with special reference to LS has been attempted. 23 patients of either sex in the age between 20 to 65 years having signs and symptoms of LS were selected and were administered Yapana Basti for a period of 15 days. The association between traumatic dental injuries and atypical external root resorption in maxillary primary incisors.

Atypical root resorption (ARR), which is observed on radiographs of primary incisors, has been reported in the dental literature to result from digit sucking; thus ignoring any association between ARR and traumatic dental injuries (TDI). The purpose of this study was to evaluate and compare the contributions of sucking habits and TDI to external ARR in primary incisors. A history of dental trauma was assessed based on clinical and radiographic findings. Periapical radiographs of the premaxilla were evaluated for the presence of ARR. The presence or history of sucking habits was based on parent

BACKGROUND: This systematic review assessed the effectiveness and safety of pharmacotherapy and combined interventions for reducing vaccine injection pain in individuals across the lifespan. DESIGN/METHODS: Electronic databases were searched for relevant randomized and quasi-randomized controlled trials. Self-reported pain and fear as well as observer-rated distress were critically important outcomes. Data were combined using standardized mean difference (SMD) or relative risk with 95% confidence intervals (CI). RESULTS: Fifty-five studies that examined breastfeeding (which combines sweet-ta

Integrative Approach Improves Fall Risk and Postural Stability in Spinocerebellar Ataxia-2 - A Case Report.

Spinocerebellar ataxias (SCAs) comprise a large heterogeneous group of autosomal dominant cerebellar ataxias. Despite availability of various conventional treatments, reducing disability and improving the quality of life is a challenge in this condition. In the present case report, based on the clinical symptoms and site of pathology, an Ayurveda-based diagnosis of kaphavruta vayana and kaphavruta udana was considered. Therapeutic measures such as rookshana (drying therapy), vatahara (measures to pacifying vata), balya (strengthening), and brimhana (nourishing) regimens were adopted along with

Improved breastfeeding duration with Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative implementation in a diverse and underserved population.

BACKGROUND: Few studies have evaluated the impact of Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative (BFHI) implementation on underserved populations in the United States. We undertook this study in New Mexico, a large southwestern state with a diverse population and limited health care access. METHODS: A quasi-experimental, retrospective cohort design was used to compare short-term breastfeeding duration between a pre-BFHI and a post-BFHI cohort. Among the post-BFHI cohort, logistic regression models were fitted to predict short-term breastfeeding duration from both individual and cumulative exposure to i

The Potential to Address Disease Vectors in Favelas in Brazil Using Sustainable Drainage Systems: Zika, Drainage and Greywater Management.

Residents of informal settlements, the world over, suffer consequences due to the lack of drainage and greywater management, impacting human and environmental health. In Brazil, the presence of the Aedes aegypti mosquito in urban areas promotes infections of the Zika virus as well as companion viruses, such as dengue, chikungunya and yellow fever. By using observation and interviews with the community, this paper shows how a simple sustainable drainage system approach could prevent the accumulation of on-street standing water, and thus reduce opportunities for the mosquito to breed and reduce

Does Acute Otitis Media in the First Month of Life Increase the Risk for Recurrent Otitis?

Acute otitis media (AOM) is a common childhood illness. The aim of this study was to assess whether AOM in the first month of life predicts recurrent AOM (rAOM) in early childhood. The medical records of all neonates with AOM and isolation of bacterial pathogen from middle-ear fluid during 2005-2010 were reviewed. Neonates without AOM admitted during the same period for neonatal fever workup were included as controls. Information regarding rAOM and possible risk factors were collected through a phone interview with the parents. A total of 84 neonates with AOM were enrolled; 25 (30%) had rAOM c

UNLABELLED: The aim of this study was to evaluate the relationship between nutritive and parafunctional habits and the presence of temporomandibular dysfunction (TMD) in children with primary dentition. METHODS: Ninety nine children, aged 3-5 years, were examined to check for the presence or absence of signs and symptoms of TMD (headache, preauricular pain, earache, masticatory muscle tenderness, deviation on opening, occlusal interference and asymmetric movement of the mandible), oral parafunctions (bruxism, nail biting, finger/thumb sucking, speech alteration, mouth breathing, pacifier and

INTRODUCTION: Psoriasis is a noninfectious chronic inflammatory skin disorder, characterized by well-defined erythematous plaques with silvery scales. In an ayurvedic perspective, we can compare this disease with Kitibha Kushta (a type of skin lesion) because most of its signs and symptoms mimic that of erythrodermic psoriasis. CASE PRESENTATION: A 23-year-old patient diagnosed with psoriasis presented with erythematous overlapped patches all over the body, Auspitz sign, and pain associated with occasional itching sensation.
