OBJECTIVE: To describe the EMS response to a large-scale shooting incident involving military-style weapons.
METHODS: Descriptive review.
RESULTS: Twenty ambulances, nine engine companies, and three helicopters responded to this incident. Ten police officers and nine civilians were wounded, all of whom required transport to nearby hospitals. Two gunmen were shot and pronounced dead at the scene. No EMS personnel were injured.

Patient safety in hospitals is difficult to define and is not measurable by operational safety parameters as in other fields. So-called adverse events (AE) are a collective of complications, failures, mistakes, errors and violations. Estimations of at least 9.2 % AEs in surgery with 0.1 % fatalities are given worldwide but there are no correlations between objective quantification of AEs and subjective or public perception of safety during the perioperative period. Patient safety during this period is mostly endangered by wound infections (safety 98 %) and nosocomial infections (safety 97 %).

BACKGROUND: The aim of this study was to evaluate the suitability of the KINGVISION videolaryngoscope for tracheal intubation.
METHODS: Endotracheal intubation was performed using the KINGVISION in 50 patients undergoing general anesthesia. We compared the percentage of glottic opening score between Coopdech Videolaryngoscope Portable VLP100 and the KINGVISION with staff anesthesiologist and novice personnel. The time to complete instrumentation and optimizing procedures were also recorded.
