In vitro treatment of human root surfaces with fluorides.

Two-minute topical applications with four different fluoride compounds, acidulated phosphate fluoride, sodium fluoride, sodium monofluorophosphate and stannous fluoride, were evaluated for ability to reduce the acide solubility of human root surfaces in vitro. Each fluoride was in aqueous solution with the fluoride level adjusted to 1.23 percent and the pH native. Rectangular windows were prepared on root surfaces and control versus test differences were invariably studied within teeth and not between teeth. Sodium fluoride and sodium monofluorophosphate solutions reduced root surface solubili

Hypersensitive teeth. Part II: Treatment.

If the hydrodynamic theory for pain transmission were accepted, occlusion of the patent dentinal tubules would appear to be essential for treatment efficacy. There are many compounds with seemingly varied chemical forms that have been shown to be effective. Their exact mode of action however, is not clearly defined because well-designed, nonbiased, and controlled comparison studies between agents are lacking. The various toothpastes may have ingredients that actually occlude patent tubules or they may cause secondary desensitization by irrational or abrasive action. In any pain study, the natu

High-efficiency hybrid solar cells based on polymer/PbSx Se1-x nanocrystals benefiting from vertical phase segregation.

Solution-processed hybrid solar cells employing a low band-gap polymer and PbSx Se1-x alloy nanocrystals, achieving a record high PCE of 5.50% and an optimal FF of 67% are presented. The remarkable device efficiency can be attributed to the high-performance active materials, the optimal polymer/NCs ratio and, more importantly, the vertical donor/(donor:acceptor)/acceptor structure which benefits charge dissociation and transport.

The scientific rationale and development of an optimized stannous fluoride dentifrice, Part 1.

Stannous fluoride has been recognized as an effective anticavity therapeutic agent since the early 1950s. There has recently been a resurgence in activity to discover ways to fully exploit its documented antimicrobial activity. Through the use of targeted in vitro methodology to predict in vivo efficacy, a highly optimized stannous fluoride dentifrice has been developed. Careful selection of stabilizing agents formulated into a unique system has resulted in a Colgate Optimized Stannous Fluoride (COSF) dentifrice that has been proven to simultaneously help control supragingival plaque, gingivit

Stannous Fluoride Toothpaste Stabilized With Nitrate and Phosphates (SNaP) Reduces Oral Malodor: A Randomized Clinical Study.

BACKGROUND: Oral malodor, whether from systemic disease, dietary sources, or bacteria in the oral cavity, can negatively impact patients' quality of life. Oral malodor due to bacteria in the oral cavity can be managed by mechanically or chemically removing bacteria. Dentifrices are ideal vehicles to deliver therapeutic active ingredients that promote and maintain oral health since most consumers brush their teeth daily. Consumer preference drives consistency in oral hygiene routine. This study first identified a favorite flavor via consumer flavor testing and then measured the clinical efficac

Performance Enhancement of Polymer Solar Cells by Using Two Polymer Donors with Complementary Absorption Spectra.

Performance enhancement of polymer solar cells (PSCs) is achieved by expanding the absorption of the active layer of devices. To better match the spectrum of solar radiation, two polymers with different band gaps are used as the donor material to fabricate ternary polymer cells. Ternary blend PSCs exhibit an enhanced short-circuit current density and open-circuit voltage in comparison with the corresponding HD-PDFC-DTBT (HD)- and DT-PDPPTPT (DPP)-based binary polymer solar cells, respectively. Ternary PSCs show a power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 6.71%, surpassing the corresponding binary P
