Existing techniques for diagnosing gastrointestinal disorders in stomach, small and large intestines, and colon depend on biopsy, endoscopy or colonoscopy methods which are invasive, expensive and time-consuming. In fact, such methods also lack the ability to access large parts of the small intestine. In this article, we demonstrate a smart ingestible biosensing capsule that is capable of monitoring pH activity in small and large intestines. pH is a known biomarker for several gastrointestinal disorders such as inflammatory bowel disease. Functionalized threads utilized as pH sensing mechanism

Gel electrophoresis has been a cornerstone laboratory technique for decades, yet it is often viewed as cumbersome and costly and confined to laboratory settings. Recent advances in DNA nanotechnology have used electrophoresis as a primary readout for some biosensing applications such as DNA nanoswitches, where a conformational change in a DNA structure indicates the presence of a target molecule. Conventional gel electrophoresis setups are not ideal for such targeted applications, with moderate equipment cost, excessive reagent use, and time-consuming processes. Here, we adopt a reductionist,

Most multiplex nucleic acids detection methods require numerous reagents and high-priced instruments. The emerging clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats (CRISPR)/Cas has been regarded as a promising point-of-care (POC) strategy for nucleic acids detection. However, how to achieve CRISPR/Cas multiplex biosensing remains a challenge. Here, an affordable means termed CRISPR-RDB (CRISPR-based reverse dot blot) for multiplex target detection in parallel, which possesses the advantages of high sensitivity and specificity, cost-effectiveness, instrument-free, ease to use, and visu

A novel, one-step electrochemical biosensing technique has been developed by utilizing a strategy in which a biomolecule controls transport of CdS-signaling nanoparticles to the surface of an electrode. The viability of this approach was explored using DNA as a model target biomolecule. The capture and signaling probes both contain nucleic acid sequences that are complementary to the target DNA. The detection chamber consists of a gold matrix modified with the capture probe on the bottom, a glassy carbon (GC) working electrode on the top, and a buffered electrolyte containing the signaling pro

Biomarker detection is critical for disease diagnostics, drug development, biomolecular assay design, and personalized medicine. Developing sensitive, multiplexed platforms for point-of-care settings remains a significant challenge. Ensemble techniques such as enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISAs) and lateral flow assays (LFAs) are widely adopted for point-of-care diagnostics and offer robust, well-established protocols. However, their limitations in sensitivity, dynamic range, and multiplexing capabilities hinder their utility in detecting low-abundance analytes. Emerging optical biosen

BACKGROUND: Pokkah boeng disease, caused by Fusarium spp., is a destructive disease that can leads to substantial sugarcane yield losses under epidemic conditions. Early detection is extremely challenging due to the absence of visible symptoms during early-stage infection. Conventional diagnostic methods rely on sophisticated instrumentation and external power sources, which fundamentally restrict their practical application in resource-limited agricultural settings. To address these limitations, we develop a smart biosensing platform that breaks through the constraints of traditional methods,

Stringent detection of lipopolysaccharide (LPS) is crucial for ensuring drug and food safety, enabling effective control of endotoxin contamination in pharmaceuticals and food. Given the wide variation in LPS concentrations across different matrices, the assay methods for LPS are extremely needed combining a wide dynamic range with high sensitivity. Employing metallohelicate embedded liposomal for electrochemical sensor modification, a novel strategy is developed for high-performance detection of LPS with aptamer probes. Metallohelicates are non-destructively incorporated into the lipid bilaye

Electrochemical nanobiosensors now produce not only scalar analytical readouts but also voltammetric waveforms, impedance spectra, transistor transfer curves, images, and longitudinal streams whose interpretation is affected by matrix interference, fouling, drift, fabrication variability, and population heterogeneity. This Review introduces a mechanism-information-validation (MIV) framework for evaluating when machine learning (ML) changes the scientific or translational value of those signals. The mechanism layer asks how recognition chemistry, double-layer structure, receptor density, linker

C-reactive protein (CRP), a sensitive inflammatory biomarker, is predominantly synthesised by the liver. Its concentration rises rapidly in response to infection, inflammation, or tissue injury. Persistent or excessive elevation of CRP is associated with serious health risks, including cardiovascular disease and acute or chronic kidney injury. Owing to its high sensitivity to inflammation, infection, and cardiovascular risk, CRP is widely regarded as a key biomarker for assessing these conditions. Conventional detection methods, such as immunoturbidimetry (ITM), enzyme-linked immunosorbent ass

Combined detection of the environmental dissolved oxygen and ATP is critically important, but is technically difficult. This work develops an electrochemical biosensor for sequential detection, via the potential-environment dual switching feature of an enzyme-hydrogel. The single electrochemical biosensor offers linear detection ranges both for DO (0.8-8.0 mg L-1) and ATP (0.05-4 µM).
