[The relation of dental examination results at corporation offices to occupation, subjective symptoms of fatigue and daily lifestyle--an investigation based on the number of missing teeth].

Our investigation was intended to find a relationship between the dental health of labourers and, their jobs, subjective symptoms of fatigue and daily lifestyle. Dentists checked the dental health of 2,565 corporation employees (790 male and 775 female) of small to medium-sized enterprises in Hiroshima prefecture. At the same time they examined the employees' occupation, subjective symptoms of fatigue and their health maintenance behavior according to Breslow's criteria. The data were divided into age groups spanning 10 years. Among males in their 30s, those engaged in transport/driving and en

Poor glycemic control impairs oral health in children with type 1 diabetes mellitus - a systematic review and meta-analysis.

OBJECTIVE: There are more than one million children and adolescents living with type 1 diabetes mellitus, and their number is steadily increasing. Diabetes affects oral health through numerous channels, including hyposalivation, immune suppression, and the inflammatory effect of glycation end-products. However, patients with type 1 diabetes must follow a strict sugar free diet that is proven to be carioprotective. Therefore, the aim of this systematic review and meta-analysis is to investigate whether children with type 1 diabetes have a difference in Decayed, Missing, Filled Teeth index (DMFT

AIM: The aim of this study was to evaluate eruption pattern and occurrence of caries in children affected with fluorosis. MATERIALS AND METHODS: One hundred and fifty subjects (75 each with/without fluorosis) with age group of 7-8 years were selected. Dental fluorosis assessed on the buccal surfaces of the permanent incisors and molars and scored using the Thylstrup and Fejerskov index. The tooth were scored as emerged when at least one cusp of the tooth was visible in the mouth. Caries attack rate in primary and permanent teeth were estimated using DMFS and defs index in fluorosis patient. T

[Tooth by tooth epidemiological study of caries in 3,400 children].

The DMF index distribution and the D, M, and F distributions on the whole teeth were described from a representative sample including 3,400 children at ages 6, 9 and 12. Results showed a great symetry for dental caries on each side of the median sagittal plane. The main spots of dental attack were found and the importance of each tooth in the determination of various indexes was analyzed. At each age, the first permanent molars are the most atracked. Many children have three or four decayed molars. Concerning the eruption of permanent teeth and the loss of primary teeth, we found the same syme

Widely targeted quantitative lipidomics and prognostic model reveal plasma lipid predictors for nasopharyngeal carcinoma.

BACKGROUND: Dysregulation of lipid metabolism is closely associated with cancer progression. The study aimed to establish a prognostic model to predict distant metastasis-free survival (DMFS) in patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC), based on lipidomics. METHODS: The plasma lipid profiles of 179 patients with locoregionally advanced NPC (LANPC) were measured and quantified using widely targeted quantitative lipidomics. Then, patients were randomly split into the training (125 patients, 69.8%) and validation (54 patients, 30.2%) sets. To identify distant metastasis-associated lipids, un

Dental disease prevalence among methamphetamine and heroin users in an urban setting: a pilot study.

BACKGROUND: Researchers have reported rampant caries among methamphetamine users. The authors investigated the prevalence of dental disease and associated risk behaviors in methamphetamine users compared with those in heroin users. METHODS: This pilot project was a cross-sectional study of an ongoing cohort of young adult injection-drug users (IDUs) in San Francisco. Participants completed an oral health questionnaire administered by a research assistant, and dentists performed clinical examinations to record the participants' data in terms of scores on the decayed-missing-filled surfaces (DM

The Integration of the Pre-Treatment Neutrophil-to-Lymphocyte Ratio in the Eighth Edition of the AJCC Staging System for Nasopharynx Cancer.

OBJECTIVE: The present study aimed to evaluate the role of integrating the pretreatment neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) into the eighth edition of the AJCC staging system for nasopharynx cancer in an endemic region. METHODS: Between May 2007 and December 2012, a total of 713 cases with NPC were retrospectively analyzed. The separation ability in terms of overall survival (OS), local failure-free survival (LFFS), distant metastasis-free survival (DMFS), and failure-free survival (FFS) was evaluated. The discriminatory ability was assessed using Harrell's concordance index (c-index). Recur

[Correlation between dental status and dental anxiety].

The relationship between dental status and dental anxiety was analysed in 165 patients. To assess the dental status, D3.4 MFS-index and Bleeding-on-Probing-Index (BOP) were applied. Dental anxiety was assessed using dental anxiety rating, whereas aspects of state and trait anxiety were analysed by the State-Trait-Anxiety Inventory. The hypothesis was: higher levels of dental anxiety lead to avoiding check-ups and necessary treatment, the consequence of which is a deterioration of the dental status. No significant correlation was found between dental anxiety and dental status. A significant dif
