Integrating scanned literature and online sources to build a data text collection for plant biodiversity.

Although well-differentiated thyroid carcinoma (WDTC) is characterized by a robust treatment response, aggressive subtypes, such as anaplastic thyroid carcinoma (ATC), remain highly lethal. To understand thyroid cancer evolution in both children and adults, we analyzed single-cell transcriptomes of 423,733 cells from 81 samples and spatially resolved key tumor and microenvironment populations across 28 tumors with spatial transcriptomics, including rare and unique composite WDTC/ATC tumors and pediatric diffuse sclerosing thyroid carcinomas. Additionally, we identified gene signatures of strom

Use of Pediatric Outcomes Data Collection Instrument to Evaluate Functional Outcomes in Multiple Hereditary Exostoses.

BACKGROUND: The Pediatric Outcomes Data Collection Instrument (PODCI) is a validated quality-of-life questionnaire with 6 domains designed to provide a standardized method of measuring outcomes in pediatric musculoskeletal conditions. To our knowledge there are no reports on its use in children with multiple hereditary exostosis (MHE). QUESTIONS/PURPOSES: Most published studies on MHE patients have described the efficacy of specific surgical techniques or the specification of deformities. Little is known about the general health status of pediatric patients, the severity of pain, loss of func

Pulmonary Nodule Clinical Trial Data Collection and Intelligent Differential Diagnosis for Medical Internet of Things.

In this paper, the medical Internet of things (IoT) is used to pool data from clinical trials of pulmonary nodules, and on this basis, intelligent differential diagnosis techniques are investigated. A filtered orthogonal frequency division multiplexing model based on polarisation coding is proposed, where the input data are fed to a modulator after polarisation cascade coding, and the system performance is analysed under a medical Internet of things modulated additive Gaussian white noise channel. The above polarisation-coded filtered orthogonal frequency division multiplexing system component

Room-temperature neutron and X-ray data collection of 3CL Mpro from SARS-CoV-2.

The replication of SARS-CoV-2 produces two large polyproteins, pp1a and pp1ab, that are inactive until cleavage by the viral chymotrypsin-like cysteine protease enzyme (3CL Mpro) into a series of smaller functional proteins. At the heart of 3CL Mpro is an unusual catalytic dyad formed by the side chains of His41 and Cys145 and a coordinated water molecule. The catalytic mechanism by which the enzyme operates is still unknown, as crucial information on the protonation states within the active site is unclear. To experimentally determine the protonation states of the catalytic site and of the ot

A toolkit for the collection of thrombosis-related data elements in COVID-19 clinical studies.

Thrombosis has emerged as an important complication of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), particularly among individuals with severe illness. However, the precise incidence of thrombotic events remains uncertain due to differences in study design, patient populations, outcome ascertainment, event definitions, and reporting. In an effort to overcome some of these challenges and promote standardized data collection and reporting in clinical studies, the American Society of Hematology Research Collaborative COVID-19 Non-Malignant Hematology Task Force, in collaboration with the International So

Expanding Data Collection for the MDSGene Database: X-linked Dystonia-Parkinsonism as Use Case Example.

MDSGene is an online database on movement disorders that collates genetic and clinical knowledge using a standardized published literature abstraction strategy. This review is dedicated to X-linked dystonia-parkinsonism (XDP). We screened 233 citations and curated phenotypic and genotypic data for 414 cases. To reduce data missingness, we (1) contacted authors and engaged the research community to provide additional clinical and genetic information, and (2) revisited previously unpublished data from a cohort of XDP patients seen at our institution. Using these approaches, we expanded the cohor

Maternal and neonatal data collection systems in low- and middle-income countries: scoping review protocol.

Background: Pregnant women and neonates represent one of the most vulnerable groups, especially in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). A recent analysis reported that most vaccine pharmacovigilance systems in LMICs consist of spontaneous (passive) adverse event reporting. Thus, LMICs need effective active surveillance approaches, such as pregnancy registries. We intend to identify currently active maternal and neonatal data collection systems in LMICs, with the potential to inform active safety electronic surveillance for novel vaccines using standardized definitions. Methods: A scoping

Details on high frequency blood collection, data analysis, available material and patient characteristics in BIOMArCS.

The Biomarker Study to Identify the Acute Risk of a Coronary Syndrome (BIOMArCS) is a prospective, observational study that has been designed to study the evolution of blood biomarkers in post-acute coronary syndrome (ACS) patients. In our recently published study "Temporal evolution of Myeloperoxidase and Galectin 3 during 1 year after acute coronary syndrome admission" [1] in the American Heart Journal, we demonstrated that repeatedly measuring MPO and Galectin-3 does not aid to differentiate between patients with and without adverse cardiac events during 1-year follow-up. How Feasible is Multiple Time Point Web-Based Data Collection with Individuals Experiencing Street Homelessness?

Three barriers investigators often encounter when conducting longitudinal work with homeless or other marginalized populations are difficulty tracking participants, high rates of no-shows for follow-up interviews, and high rates of loss to follow-up. Recent research has shown that homeless populations have substantial access to information technologies, including mobile devices and computers. These technologies have the potential both to make longitudinal data collection with homeless populations easier and to minimize some of these methodological challenges. This pilot study's purpose was to

Sanitation, Stress, and Life Stage: A Systematic Data Collection Study among Women in Odisha, India.

Emerging evidence demonstrates how inadequate access to water and sanitation is linked to psychosocial stress, especially among women, forcing them to navigate social and physical barriers during their daily sanitation routines. We examine sanitation-related psychosocial stress (SRPS) across women's reproductive lives in three distinct geographic sites (urban slums, rural villages, and rural tribal villages) in Odisha, India. We explored daily sanitation practices of adolescent, newly married, pregnant, and established adult women (n = 60) and identified stressors encountered during sanitation

Prion removal capacity of plasma protein manufacturing processes: a data collection from PPTA member companies.

BACKGROUND: The variant Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease incidence peaked a decade ago and has since declined. Based on epidemiologic evidence, the causative agent, pathogenic prion, has not constituted a tangible contamination threat to large-scale manufacturing of human plasma-derived proteins. Nonetheless, manufacturers have studied the prion removal capabilities of various manufacturing steps to better understand product safety. Collectively analyzing the results could reveal experimental reproducibility and detect trends and mechanisms driving prion removal. STUDY DESIGN AND METHODS: Plasma Pro

Assessment of children with brachial plexus birth palsy using the Pediatric Outcomes Data Collection Instrument.

The purpose of this study was to determine whether the Pediatric Outcomes Data Collection Instrument (PODCI) measures differences in function between children with brachial plexus birth palsy (BPBP) who are candidates for shoulder tendon surgery and age-matched controls. The PODCI was administered prospectively to 23 children with BPBP who were candidates for shoulder tendon surgery. Their results were compared with published PODCI data for control subjects, and factors associated with function within the BPBP cohort were determined. Children in the BPBP cohort had significantly lower PODCI sc

Establishing maternal and child health data collection priorities for state and local oral health programs.

OBJECTIVE: This paper identifies specific data items for use by state and local agencies in a maternal and child oral health needs assessment model. METHODS: A modified Delphi approach was used to develop consensus on items for inclusion in the data set and their relative importance. Initially, 31 data items were chosen from several national sources. All state dental directors, along with other selected administrators and advisory committee members for this process, were asked to categorize each of the data items as core (essential), important but optional, or of lesser importance.
