Efficacy of commercially available biological agents for the topical treatment of cervical intraepithelial neoplasia: a systematic review.

BACKGROUND: Cervical cancer is a major public health issue in the world, especially in developing countries. It can be prevented through vaccination against HPV (primary prevention) and through screening and treatment of cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN) (secondary prevention). Surgical methods for treatment of CIN are linked to complications such as bleeding and adverse pregnancy outcomes. Furthermore, these methods are not generally available in resource-poor settings. Therefore, topical agents for local application on the cervix have been used since decades to overpass complications

The Efficacy and Safety of Biologics in Treating Ankylosing Spondylitis and Their Impact on Quality of Life and Comorbidities: A Literature Review.

Ankylosing spondylitis (AS) is a chronic inflammatory arthritis that affects the axial skeleton, causing intense pain, progressive joint destruction, and a gradual reduction in physical function. Additionally, AS can result in extra-musculoskeletal manifestations including inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), psoriasis, and acute anterior uveitis (AAU) affecting patients' quality of life (QoL). Furthermore, AS association with neurological and cardiovascular events has been documented. With the advent of biologics, treating AS has dramatically changed due to their high efficacy and tolerable safe

Topical anesthetic preparations for rigid and flexible endoscopy: a meta-analysis.

Transnasal endoscopy can cause pain or discomfort for the patient. Topical anesthetic has been used in an attempt to reduce this. However, there is no consensus on whether topical anesthetic is effective in optimizing patient experience during the procedure. The goal of this study was to perform a systematic review with meta-analysis of the efficacy of topical anesthetic on pain and comfort outcomes during endoscopy. Two authors independently searched the databases from inception to September 2013. Studies comparing topical anesthetic with placebo where the outcomes of interest were pain, comf

Sex-, gender- and ethnically-sensitive aspects of psychosocial interventions for people living with dementia and BPSD: A protocol for a participatory umbrella review.

INTRODUCTION: Behavioural and psychological symptoms of dementia (BPSD) affect up to 80% of people with dementia and pose significant challenges in the context of care. Psychosocial interventions have been recommended as first-line strategies, but the roles of aspects of sex, gender and ethnicity in this context remain underexplored. This umbrella review, which will be conducted as part of the GenderDem project, aims to synthesise existing reviews on psychosocial interventions for BPSD and to investigate the potential sex-, gender- and ethnicity-sensitive differences among them. Special aspects of biologics treatment in psoriasis: management in pregnancy, lactation, surgery, renal impairment, hepatitis and tuberculosis.

Background of the article: Biologics are modern immunomodulatory drugs, whose use in the treatment of psoriasis has led to remarkable results in psoriatic patients. The administration of these agents in special population groups, such as patients with chronic infections and renal impairment, as well as perioperative, pregnant or lactating patients, has not been thoroughly addressed, mostly because these patients are excluded from clinical studies. Materials and methods: This report is an updated systematic overview of the use of biologics in the above-mentioned types of patients and was conduc

Efficacy and Safety of Topical Dapsone in Dermatology: A Scoping Review of Clinical Studies.

BACKGROUND: Dapsone (4,4'-Diamino diphenyl sulfone) has been utilized in managing a wide variety of mucocutaneous conditions, usually as a systemic product. Topical dapsone is commercially available as 5% and 7.5% gel and is FDA-approved for acne vulgaris. These topical formulations have shown less systemic absorption and fewer adverse events. Considering this, topical dapsone might benefit localized disease, immunosuppressed individuals, and those who avoid exposure to systemic therapies. METHODS: Following PRISMA guidelines, a comprehensive literature search was conducted across PubMed, Web

Topical antimicrobial treatment of acne vulgaris: an evidence-based review.

Topical antimicrobial treatment is indicated for mild to moderate acne vulgaris. Our literature review includes searches of Ovid, MEDLINE, EMBASE, and the databases of the Cochrane Library. A detailed search strategy is included. All searches were limited to controlled trials and systematic reviews. No year limits were applied to the searches, but we focused on trials, guidelines, and reviews published since 2004, the year that the last review of topical antimicrobials was published in this journal. Several controlled trials demonstrate that benzoyl peroxide, topical antibiotics, and topical r
