An unusual case of penile pilonidal sinus: diagnostic challenges and literature review.

Pilonidal sinus is a common condition that typically affects the sacrococcygeal region of young men, whereas involvement of other sites, including the external genitalia, is exceedingly rare. We report the case of a 22-year-old man with a penile pilonidal sinus who had failed to respond to multiple courses of antibiotic therapy. Physical examination revealed a firm white papule with a central pinpoint opening on the dorsal balanopreputial fold. The lesion was surgically excised, and histopathological examination confirmed the diagnosis of pilonidal sinus. The postoperative course was uneventfu

Disease that should be remembered: Sacrococcygeal pilonidal sinus disease and short history.

Pilonidal sinus disease has led to heated debates since it was first described in the medical literature. Although a consensus has been built on its etiology and pathogenesis, the same course has not progressed for treatment modality. This review is a short article about the process of pilonidal sinus disease from past to present. Some important points were mentioned between the years 1833, which is accepted as the milestone for the awareness of the disease, in which it was first reported until the year of 1880, in which it was given its name. Although its name has been the same for about two

A new flap for reconstruction of pilonidal sinus: lumbar adipofascial turnover flap.

BACKGROUND: "Adipofascial turnover flap" is a well-known procedure, but it is generally not used for the surgical treatment of pilonidal sinus disease. The "lumbar adipofascial turnover flap" has been used in this study for the reconstruction of uncomplicated pilonidal sinus disease. METHODS: Ten cases (8 male and 2 female patients) were operated on by this technique. The reconstruction was performed with the lumbar adipofascial turnover flap. The flap sizes ranged from 4 x 7 cm to 5 x 9 cm (mean, 4.5 x 8 cm), and they were elevated with length-to-base ratio below 2:1. The follow-up period wa

Sacral adipofascial turn-over flap for the excisional defect of pilonidal sinus.

The aim of pilonidal sinus surgery includes complete resection of the lesion and filling of the resultant soft-tissue defect by some means; this has a major influence on whether a lesion will occur after surgical treatment. The creation of a sacral adipofascial turn-over flap for the excisional defect has been performed in seven cases of pilonidal sinus since November of 1992. During the postoperative follow-up period, which ranged from 10 months to 7 years 11 months (mean duration, 5 years 2 months), partial dehiscence of the wound as a result of fatlysis was observed and treated conservative
