A comparative study between cryo-laser cryo-sclerotherapy and sclerotherapy in the treatment of telangiectasia and reticular veins: A randomized controlled trial.

OBJECTIVE: Telangiectasias, characterized by dilated venules, are frequently observed in the lower extremities. Sclerotherapy stands out as the predominant treatment of these vascular lesions. The integration of laser therapy with a mild sclerosing agent, serving as an osmotic sclerosant, presents an enhanced cosmetic treatment approach, aiming to optimize outcomes and minimize potential adverse effects. This study sought to evaluate the feasibility, efficacy, and safety of cryo-laser and cryo-sclerotherapy (CLaCS) and compare it with injection sclerotherapy for the treatment of telangiectasia

Value of fat-suppressed T2-weighted imaging for predicting short-term pain relief after sclerotherapy for venous malformations in the extremities.

PURPOSE: This study aimed to evaluate the value of fat-suppressed T2-weighted imaging (FS-T2WI) for predicting short-term pain relief after polidocanol sclerotherapy for painful venous malformations (VMs) in the extremities. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This retrospective study included patients with painful VMs in the extremities between October 2014 and September 2021, had their first sclerotherapy without history of surgical therapy, and underwent magnetic resonance imaging before sclerotherapy. Pain relief was assessed 2 months after 3% polidocanol sclerotherapy and was categorized as follows:

A nomogram for predicting sclerotherapy response for treatment of lymphatic malformations in children.

PURPOSE: In this manuscript, we purposed to identify the prognostic factors for treatment of lymphatic malformations in children using polidocanol foam combined with pingyangmycin and to construct nomogram for predicting sclerotherapy response. METHODS: A retrospective analysis of 77 children having LMs who underwent sclerotherapy using polidocanol foam combined with pingyangmycin under ultrasound display from January 2017 to April 2020 was done. The clinical response was graded as excellent (≥ 90%), good (≥ 50%, < 90%), and poor (< 50%). More than 50% was considered as acceptable response. P

Central retinal and posterior ciliary artery occlusion after intralesional injection of sclerosant to glabellar subcutaneous hemangioma.

The aim of this study is to describe vision loss caused by central retinal artery and posterior ciliary artery occlusion as a consequence of sclerotherapy with a polidocanol injection to a glabellar hemangioma. An 18-year-old man underwent direct injection with a 23-gauge needle of 1 mL of a polidocanol-carbon dioxide emulsion into the glabellar subcutaneous hemangioma under ultrasound visualization of the needle tip by radiologists. He developed lid swelling the next day, and 3 days later at referral, the visual acuity in the left eye was no light perception. Funduscopy revealed central retin

Percutaneous sclerotherapy for simple hepatic cysts: a descriptive systematic review and proportional meta-analysis of single-arm studies.

Percutaneous aspiration and sclerotherapy is a widely used treatment for symptomatic simple hepatic cysts, but the optimal sclerosing agent is unsettled and the literature consists almost entirely of single-arm studies, which cannot support valid between-agent comparison. We performed a descriptive systematic review and proportional meta-analysis restricted strictly to simple hepatic cysts (excluding polycystic liver disease), pooling outcomes within each agent rather than comparing agents. PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane CENTRAL were searched (1,237 records), yielding 25 included studies. Propor

Comparative analysis of sclerotherapy and surgical resection for pediatric pyogenic granuloma: a retrospective cohort study.

BACKGROUND: Pyogenic granuloma (PG) is a benign vascular lesion frequently encountered in children and young adults. Although surgical excision is traditionally considered the standard of care, it may be limited by operative complexity, postoperative scarring, and patient discomfort. Sclerotherapy with polidocanol has recently emerged as a minimally invasive alternative, but direct comparative data in pediatric populations remain limited. METHODS: We conducted a retrospective cohort study of 30 pediatric patients diagnosed with PG and treated at our institution between January 2022 and Februa

Impact of previous skin hydration on postsclerotherapy hyperpigmentation: a prospective, randomized, comparative study (SKINCARE Study).

BACKGROUND: Postsclerotherapy hyperpigmentation (PSH) is a frequent and distressing complication. It is a cosmetic concern in aesthetic phlebology, with limited prospective efficacy/safety data. Skin hydration with moisturizer strengthens the skin barrier and may potentially prevent postsclerotherapy hyperpigmentation. METHODS: This prospective, randomized, comparative study included 55 adult patients with reticular veins and telangiectasias. Patients were randomized to receive a daily moisturizer for 30 days before sclerotherapy or to no hydration. All participants underwent a single session

Liver regeneration after portal vein embolization using absorbable and permanent embolization materials in a rabbit model.

OBJECTIVE: To compare the safety and hypertrophy response after portal vein embolization (PVE) using 2 absorbable and 3 permanent embolization materials. BACKGROUND: Portal vein embolization is used to increase future remnant liver volume preoperatively. Application of temporary, absorbable embolization materials could be advantageous in some situations, provided sufficient hypertrophy is achieved from the nonembolized lobe. METHODS: Six groups of rabbits (n = 5) underwent PVE of 80% of the total liver volume using saline (sham), gelatin sponge, fibrin glue, polyvinyl alcohol particles with

Targeted Preconditioning and Cell Transplantation in the Murine Lower Respiratory Tract.

Transplantation of airway basal stem cells could achieve a durable cure for genetic diseases of the airway, such as cystic fibrosis and primary ciliary dyskinesia. Recent work demonstrated the potential of primary and pluripotent stem cell-derived basal cells to efficiently engraft into the mouse trachea after injury. However, there are many hurdles to overcome in translating these approaches to humans, including developing safe and efficient methods for delivery in larger animal models. We propose a model that targets preconditioning and cell delivery to intrapulmonary airways using a microbr
