BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: The common technique used in securing the base of the appendix is Endoloop ligature (Ethicon, Somerville, NJ, USA). Vicryl (polyglactin 910) (Ethicon) and polydioxanone (PDS) (Ethicon) Endoloop ligatures can be used. There are potential benefits of the use of PDS Plus (Ethicon) Endoloop ligature. However, the use of different materials may vary in terms of inflammation, foreign-body reaction, rate of infection in the surgical area, or rate of adhesion formation. Incisional hernias remain a surgical challenge when balancing surgical morbidity, functional restoration, and risk of recurrence. Laparoscopic intraperitoneal onlay mesh (IPOM) placement reduces postoperative wound infections and allows fast patient recovery. BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: The use of bioabsorbable materials in craniomaxillofacial surgery began a new era in fracture fixation. The purpose of this paper is to review the historical perspectives and the current concept of bioresorbable materials in fracture fixation.
METHODS AND MATERIALS: The authors review the biochemistry and clinical characteristics of bioabsorbable polymers--polylactic acid (PLA), polyglycolic acid (PGA), polydioxanone (PDS), and their copolymers. Their use and clinical perspectives by the Helsinki (authors') group and other study groups are presented.

In a long term animal study (min 2 weeks; max 48 weeks) on 6 minipigs, clinical related defects of the medial orbital wall extending in the orbital roof (2.5 cm x 3.5 cm) were created. BACKGROUND: There is no conclusive evidence which size of suture stitches and suture distance should be used to prevent burst abdomen and incisional hernia.
METHODS: Thirty-eight porcine abdominal walls were removed immediately after death and divided into 2 groups: A and B (N = 19 each). Two suturing methods using double-loop polydioxanone were tested in 14-cm midline incisions: group A consisted of large stitches (1 cm) with a large suture distance (1 cm), and group B consisted of small stitches (.5 cm) with a small suture distance (.5 cm).

Surgical pancreatic duct (PD) drainage for chronic pancreatitis in children is relatively rare. It is indicated in cases of recurrent pancreatitis and PD dilatation that have not responded to medical therapy and therapeutic endoscopy. We do not advocate routine open reduction in subcondylar fractures, but there are some indications for surgical treatments. If we have decided for open reduction, the risks must be weighed against the benefits. If we are not sure, that the condyle is in a correct position, we avoid rigid internal fixation and we prefer only a temporary stabilization with resorbable Polydioxanone, Polylactide or autologous bone-pins. A method is presented to reinforce normal suturing techniques in median and ulnar nerve repairs at the level of the forearm or wrist. If the distance between the stumps does not exceed 20 to 30 mm the coaptation can be protected from tension by two ribbons of polydioxanone (PDS) which are sutured to the epineurium bridging the site of the suture of the nerve. A woven nanotextile implant was developed and optimized for long-term continuous drug delivery for potential oncological applications. Avulsion fractures of the tibial tuberosity are uncommon injuries. A 16-year-old male sustained injuries to his right knee joint after jumping from stairs and landed on his feet with his right knee forced into flexion.
