Sexual and reproductive health access and service delivery among adolescents and youth in Mogadishu, Somalia: findings from a mixed methods study.

BACKGROUND: Access to basic sexual and reproductive health (SRH) is a challenge for adolescents and youths (AYs) in Somalia, a country that has endured decades of conflict. There is limited information on how (if at all) SRH services are tailored for AYs, and whether and how this age group access SRH services. We sought to assess access and delivery of SRH services for AYs in four districts of Mogadishu. METHODS: We conducted a mapping of SRH service providers, semi-structured interviews with SRH service providers (n = 8) and focus group discussions stratified by gender, age and marital statu

Explaining the attitude-behaviour gap in adolescent sexual and reproductive health service utilization: A cognitive dissonance perspective from rural Uganda.

Adolescents in low-resource settings hold positive attitudes toward sexual and reproductive health (SRH) services, yet fail to use them. This study presents a theoretical reinterpretation of mixed-methods data (N = 408 adolescents, aged 13-19) from Uganda's Busoga region, through Festinger's Cognitive Dissonance Theory. Quantitative findings showed health-seeking attitudes predicted SRH service utilization (β = 0.910, p < .001) and future intentions (β = 1.976, p < .001), but 52% of adolescents had no SRH service contact in past year, and mean uptake scores remained below 2.0 on a 5-point scal

Sexual and Reproductive Health Service Utilization and Associated Factors Among Young People With Disabilities in Ethiopia: Systematic Review and Meta-analysis.

Disability is a major public health concern affecting about 16% of the global population. It results from the interaction of health condition and/or impairments with various contextual personal and environmental factors. All people need access to sexual and reproductive health (SRH) services, but young people with disabilities (YPWDs) need it even more. In Ethiopia, evidence indicates that YPWDs experience substantially limited access to SRH services. This study aimed to systematically identify, appraise, and summarize existing evidence on SRH service utilization and associated factors among Y

Sexual and reproductive health service utilization among patients with podoconiosis in Wolaita Zone, South Ethiopia: a multilevel mixed-effect analysis.

BACKGROUND: Sexual and reproductive health (SRH) services are essential for promoting the wellbeing of individuals and communities. Achieving universal health coverage is unattainable without ensuring equitable access to SRH services and upholding sexual and reproductive rights. Podoconiosis, a neglected tropical disease and non-filarial form of elephantiasis, is caused by prolonged barefoot exposure to irritant volcanic soils. Although SRH services have been increasingly integrated into primary healthcare systems in Ethiopia, people affected by podoconiosis continue to face substantial barrie

Wealth disparities in maternal health service utilization among women of reproductive age in Ethiopia: findings from the mini-EDHS 2019.

BACKGROUND: Ethiopia has made strides in reducing maternal mortality, but significant discrepancies in maternal health service utilization exist across socioeconomic levels. According to studies, women from higher-income households are far more likely to use essential services such as antenatal care, delivery care, and postnatal care than poorer women. This wealth disparity is a primary contributor to persistently high maternal mortality, particularly among poor populations. The study's goal was to assess wealth disparities in maternal health service uptake and identify contributing factors.

"They Just Tell Me to Abstain:" Variable Access to and Uptake of Sexual and Reproductive Health Services Among Adolescents Living With HIV in Kenya.

Background: To improve holistic care for adolescents living with HIV (ALHIV), including integration of sexual and reproductive health services (SRHS), the Kenya Ministry of Health implemented an adolescent package of care (APOC). To inform optimized SRH service delivery, we sought to understand the experiences with SRHS for ALHIV, their primary caregivers, and health care workers (HCWs) following APOC implementation. Methods: We completed a mixed methods evaluation to characterize SRHS provided and personal experiences with access and uptake using surveys conducted with facility managers from

Integration of HIV Prevention With Sexual and Reproductive Health Services: Evidence for Contraceptive Options and HIV Outcomes Study Experience of Integrating Oral Pre-exposure HIV Prophylaxis in Family Planning Services in Lusaka, Zambia.

The WHO guideline on the integration of family planning (FP) and pre-exposure HIV prophylaxis (PrEP) to enhance the health of women and adolescent girls is reflected in the Zambia Consolidated Guidelines for Treatment and Prevention of HIV Infection, 2020. There is however a dearth of data on the integration of PrEP and FP in Zambia. We describe the integration of oral PrEP in FP services using the Evidence for Contraceptive Options and HIV Outcomes (ECHO) study experience at Kamwala District Health Center in Lusaka, Zambia. The provision of oral PrEP at Kamwala started in October 2017, lastin

Integrating family planning with nutrition and other sexual and reproductive health services in low-income and middle-income countries: findings from a scoping review.

INTRODUCTION: Integrating family planning with nutrition could address unmet family planning needs and malnutrition in low-income and middle-income countries (LMICs). Integrating family planning with sexual reproductive health (SRH) services may provide valuable insights as well. This scoping review synthesised evidence from published and grey literature on interventions integrating family planning with nutrition or SRH services in LMICs. METHODS: We searched MEDLINE, EBSCO and Google Scholar for studies on integrated family planning, nutrition or SRH services, including codelivery or referra

Co-designing Healthcare Interventions with Users: A Discrete Choice Experiment to Understand Young People's Preferences for Sexual and Reproductive Health Services in Lusaka, Zambia.

INTRODUCTION: Like in many countries, coverage of sexual and reproductive health (SRH) services among adolescents and young people (AYP) aged 15-24 remains low in Zambia. Increasing coverage of SRH services requires interventions that are responsive to the needs and preferences of AYP. We conducted a discrete choice experiment (DCE) to elicit AYP's preferences for SRH service delivery in Lusaka, Zambia. METHODS: A cross-sectional DCE was conducted with AYP aged 15-24 years. Consenting participants were presented with alternative SRH service delivery strategies represented by six attributes, n

Access and utilisation of reproductive, maternal, neonatal and child health services among women who inject drugs in coastal Kenya: Findings from a qualitative study.

INTRODUCTION: The Kenyan government has committed to increasing access to comprehensive reproductive, maternal, neonatal and child health (RMNCH) services. However, inequalities still exist. Women who inject drugs are an important sub-population for public health interventions, yet their RMNCH needs have largely been overlooked. Additionally, there is a lack of research to inform RMNCH interventions for this sub-population. METHODS: In 2015, we undertook interviews and focus group discussions with 45 women who inject drugs and five key stakeholders to understand these women's RMNCH experience
