A Turn-On Fluorescent Chemosensor for Cyanide Ion Detection in Real Water Samples.

We have designed and synthesized a novel simple colorimetric fluorescent probe with aggregation-induced emission (AIE) properties. Probe 5-(4-(diphenylamine)phenyl) thiophen-2-formaldehyde W exhibited a turn-on fluorescent response to cyanide ion (CN-), which induces distinct visual color changes. Probe W exhibited a highly selective and sensitive ratiometric fluorescence response for the detection of CN- over a wide pH range (4-11) and in the presence of common interferents. The linear detection of CN- over the concentration range of 4.00-38.00 µM (R 2 = 0.9916, RSD = 0.02) was monitored by U

Transfer of SDS-proteins from gel electrophoretic zones into mass spectrometry, using electroelution of the band into buffer without sectioning of the gel.

Five SDS-proteins, ranging in molecular weight from 14 to 66 kDa, were detected without covalent fluorescent labeling by the automated gel electrophoresis apparatus with intermittent fluorescence scanning (HPGE apparatus, LabIntelligence) during electrophoresis in barbiturate buffer in the presence of Cascade Blue. The SDS-proteins were electroeluted from the gel into 220 microl of buffer by a modification of the procedure of Gombocz and Cortez. The electroeluate was freed of SDS, ultrafiltered and subjected to MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry. The masses of the five native proteins were found to b

Synthesis and Fluorescence Profiling of Naphthylamine Analogs.

N-phenyl-1-naphthylamine (NPN) has been widely used to probe the integrity of the outer membrane of gram-negative bacteria. NPN fluoresces in the hydrophobic environment of lipid bilayers, whereas its fluorescence is quenched in the aqueous extracellular milieu. Because NPN does not intrinsically accumulate in intact gram-negative bacteria, it has been broadly applied as a reporter of outer membrane permeabilization. Despite its widespread utility, systematic derivatization of this probe has remained largely unexplored. Here, we investigated the structure-fluorescence relationships of NPN thro

A ratiometric fluorescent probe based on FRET mechanism for the detection of SO₃2-/HSO₃.

Sulfites/bisulfites (SO₃2-/HSO₃-), known for their strong reducing, preservative, and antioxidant properties, are widely used in various fields such as food processing, papermaking, textiles, chemical synthesis, and water treatment for their functions of bleaching, decolorization, preservation, and antioxidation. However, long-term excessive intake may pose potential risks to human health. Moreover, their excessive presence in the environment can lead to accumulation in plant tissues, thereby inhibiting plant growth. In order to conveniently detect their contents, a fluorescent probe based on

An L-Tryptophan Fluorescence Quenching Approach for Sensitive Determination of Levofloxacin in Pharmaceutical Formulations and Biological Samples.

This study developed and validated a simple, sensitive spectrofluorimetric method for quantifying levofloxacin in pure form, pharmaceutical formulations, and biological samples. The method is based on fluorescence quenching of L-tryptophan upon interaction with levofloxacin in borate buffer (pH 10.5), forming a stable complex. Following excitation at 286 nm, fluorescence emission was recorded at 362 nm, and the quenching induced decrease in emission intensity was quantitatively monitored. Key experimental parameters, including buffer pH and volume, L-tryptophan concentration and volume, were s

Fluorescent Detection of Aqueous N-Nitrosodimethylamine via Photochemical Transformation and Affinity Capture.

N-Nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA) is a water-soluble carcinogen typically quantified using mass spectrometry coupled with chromatographic separation, which requires extensive sample preparation and sophisticated instrumentation. Here, we report a fluorescence-based detection strategy for NDMA in aqueous media that replaces column-based separation with affinity capture. Photochemical transformation of NDMA, followed by reaction with a biotinylated polymeric reagent, generates a biotin-labeled fluorescent product that can be selectively enriched through streptavidin-biotin interaction, enabling effe

Pioneering Novel, Green, White, and Blue Fluorescence-Based Platforms for Sustainable and Concurrent Monitoring of Ciprofloxacin With Celecoxib or Itopride in Biological Matrices.

Two innovative spectrofluorimetric techniques were developed for the first time to enable simultaneous quantification of ciprofloxacin hydrochloride in binary mixtures with either celecoxib or itopride hydrochloride in biological fluids. The first relied on synchronous spectrofluorimetry at a constant wavelength interval (Δλ = 100 nm), which effectively reduced spectral interference and allowed accurate estimation of celecoxib and ciprofloxacin hydrochloride at their zero-crossing points of 276 and 328 nm, respectively. The second technique leveraged direct spectrofluorimetric measurement of c

Unveiling Morphine: A Rapid and Selective Fluorescence Sensor for Forensic and Medical Analysis.

Opioid use, particularly morphine, is linked to CNS-related disorders, comorbidities, and premature death. Morphine, a widely abused opioid, poses a significant global health threat and serves as a key metabolite in various opioids. Here, we present a turn-off fluorescent sensor capable of detecting morphine with exceptional sensitivity and speed in various samples. The fluorescent sensor was developed through the dimerization process of 7-methoxy-1-tetralone and subsequent demethylation to produce the final product. Despite morphine possessing inherent fluorophoric properties and emitting lig

Efficient detection of aklomide/nitromide based on a sensor of MPA capped CdTe QDs using fluorescence quenching method.

Based on the fluorescence sensor of 3-Mercaptopropionic acid (MPA) capped CdTe quantum dots (QDs), two novel detection methods for aklomide and nitromide were developed. The MPA-CdTe QDs were synthesized and characterized by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), X-ray diffraction (XRD), ultraviolet visible (UV-vis) and fluorescence (FL). The quenchings were all static. The binding constants (Ka) at different temperatures were obtained. Electrostatic forces were the main forces for the two bindings. For the detection of aklomide and nitromide, under the optim

A new fluorescent probe with high selectivity and sensitivity for Cys detection in bovine serum.

Cysteine (Cys) is one of the most basic mercaptans in the human body. As an important endogenous small molecule mercaptan, Cys plays a vital role in various physiological processes and can participate in maintaining redox balance to ensure homeostasis. Abnormal Cys levels can lead to a variety of diseases. However, the detection of cysteine may be interfered with by other small molecule biothiols. Therefore, the design of fluorescent probes based on the structural characteristics and reactivity of cysteine has become the focus of current research. In this paper, a fluorescent probe (3-(2H-benz

Fluorescent Carbon Dots: Aggregation-Induced Emission Enhancement, Application as Probe for CN- and Cr2O7-2, Sensing Strips and Bio-imaging Agent.

Fluorescent carbon dots (Trp-CDs) were prepared using tryptophan as precursor and were characterized on the basis of elemental analysis, powder-XRD, IR, Raman spectroscopy, 13C-NMR, UV-Vis, fluorescence and TEM. Trp-CDs exhibit poor fluorescence in 100% water but showed strong Aggregation Induced Emission (AIE) in ethanol and higher alcohols. The anion sensing study of Trp-CD revealed that it selectively detects CN- and Cr2O7-2 and from fluorescence quenching titration study, quenching constant, LOD and range of detection were evaluated. The emission life-time of Trp-CD before and after additi

Anthracene benzene conjugate (ABC): An asymmetric Schiff base for the selective detection of Ag+ ion using fluorimetry and its applications.

Anthracene based chemosensor ABC has been synthesized and characterized through 1H, 13C NMR, mass spectral studies. UV absorption and emission studies performed to identify the sensing behavior of chemosensor ABC. The probe ABC, originally bright fluorescent, selectively sense Ag+ ion by the quenching the fluorescence intensity through a "Switch On-off" process and quench the fluorescence due to the heavy atom effect interaction with the free chemosensor. The binding constant of the probe ABC with Ag+ was calculated as 5.4 × 104 M-1 and the limit of detection upto 1.4 nM level. The practical u

A tetraphenylethene-based Schiff base AIEgen with a large Stokes shift as probe for highly sensitive and selective detection of aqueous Cu2+ ions and its application in cell imaging.

In this work, an AIE-active tetraphenylethene-based Schiff base fluorescent probe 3 with a large Stokes shift (247 nm) was designed and synthesized. It was found that the aggregated probe 3 exhibited very high selectivity and anti-interference ability for Cu2+ in PBS buffer (70% fw) through a fluorescence "turn-off" strategy. Job's plot and NMR analysis indicated the two phenolic hydroxyl groups of the benzene ring and the N atom (-CH=N-) on probe 3 interacted with Cu2+ ions in a 1:1 stoichiometric ratio. A comprehensive analysis of the Stern-Volmer and binding constant indicated a rather stro

Hydrogen sulfide gas sensing toward on-site monitoring of chilled meat spoilage based on ratio-type fluorescent probe.

In this study, a fluorescence sensing platform for visual detection of hydrogen sulfide (H2S) based on ratiometric fluorescent substances was developed to real-time monitor meat spoilage. The copper nanoclusters (CuNCs) and nitrogen-doped carbon quantum dots (CNQDs) were used as dual emission fluorescence materials. The fluorescence ratio of the two wavelengths decreased in the sulphide concentration range of 0-3 μmolL(exp)-1, with a detection limit of 62.7 nmolL(exp)-1. In order to capture hydrogen sulfide gas in the air, the ratio fluorescent material is loaded on the paper base. By processi

Rational design of a water-soluble TICT-AIEE-active fluorescent probe for mercury ion detection.

Considering that mercury ions (Hg2+) have long been a threat to human health and the environment due to their persistence, mobility and bioenrichment, the detection and removal of Hg2+ is of great significance. Therefore, a simple water-soluble naphthalimide derived fluorescent dye with AIEE characteristics was reasonably constructed based on twisted intramolecular charge transfer (TICT) mechanism, a series of probes were synthesized to demonstrate this mechanism. The probe NIDEA (naphthalimide-diethanolamine) bonding Hg2+ through the specific combination of the N-unsubstituted naphthalimide g

A Highly Selective Hg2+ Fluorescent Chemosensor Based On Photochromic Diarylethene With Quinoline Unit.

A novel diarylethene-based fluorescent chemosensor containing a quinoline unit (1o) had been designed and synthesized. 1o showed good photochromic ability and fluorescence switching properties by alternating UV/vis light irradiation. The chemosensor showed high "Turn-off" fluorescent selectivity for Hg2+ by competitive tests of the fluorescence reaction in the presence other ions in acetonitrile solution. The stoichiometry between the compound 1o and Hg2+ was 1:1 by Job's plot curve and HRMS analysis. In addition, the LOD for Hg2+ was calculated as 60 nM. The fluorescence emission can be back

A novel fluorescent BODIPY-based probe for detection of Cu2+ and H2S based on displacement approach.

A new BODIPY-based fluorescent probe (BC-DPA) was prepared by a simple method for Cu2+ detection in aqueous media and living cells. BC-DPA displayed excellent selectivity toward Cu2+via fluorescence "turn-off" mode when a mononuclear Cu(Ⅱ) complex is formed. The corresponding BC-DPA-Cu(Ⅱ) complex, whose structure was characterized by X-ray crystallography, has Cu(Ⅱ) in a distorted octahedral geometry. On the basis of the displacement approach, the fluorescence of BC-DPA-Cu2+ was recovered in the presence of S2-, which allowed the system to act as a sensitive "turn-on" sensor for hydrogen sulfi
