The term "plexic hand" refers to hand and wrist involvement in traumatic brachial plexus injuries and to remaining deficits after nerve surgery has been performed. From January 2000 to March 2008, reconstructive surgery (dynamic tenodesis) was performed on seven patients with C5, 6, 7, and 8 nerve root lesions of the brachial plexus to restore wrist and finger extension. This procedure has been used in seven patients (one female). Two patients with a lesion of the brachial plexus sustained a fracture of the affected limb. Preliminary nerve repair operations were required in four cases. One hun

The authors describe a modified lateral extraarticular tenodesis technique for the treatment of anterolateral complex knee injuries, performed in association with anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction, using a quadruple semitendinosus and gracilis tendon graft. Femoral fixation of the graft is performed with a single interference screw, together with the central band of the iliotibial tract, from the outside in, sharing the same bone tunnel, whose entrance is positioned in the topography of the lateral epicondyle (at the level of the origin of the anterolateral ligament). The postoperative

One of the most common knee injuries is the Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) rupture with severe implications on knee stability. The usual treatment is the ACL Reconstruction (ACLR) surgery where the surgeon replaces the torn ligament with a graft in an effort to restore knee kinematics. In case of excessive rotatory instability, Lateral Extra-Articular Tenodesis (LET) can be performed in combination with ACLR. Additionally, LET appears to reduce ACLR graft forces minimizing graft failure chances. However, there are concerns about overconstraining physiological rotation. To gain insight in thi

UNLABELLED: Lateral ankle ligament surgical reconstruction can take many forms, including anatomic and nonanatomic reconstructions. The nonanatomic reconstructions require the use of autograft or allograft tendons to recreate the vectors of the injured anterior talofibular ligament (ATFL) and the calcaneofibular ligament (CFL). The purpose of this study was to determine the minimum, maximum, and average graft length requirements for a modified Chrisman-Snook procedure. The structures at risk during drilling of the bone tunnels were documented to guide recommendations for tunnel placement. Modi

Fifteen shoulders of 14 patients with a keyhole tenodesis of the long head of the biceps were reviewed at an average follow-up of 7 years (3 years, 1 month to 13 years, 2 months). In 13 cases additional shoulder disease was noted during the operation. Eight patients had undergone rotator cuff decompression before the reference biceps tenodesis was performed. Eight (53%) cases achieved an excellent result; one was rated as good, four were rated as fair, and two had failures. Seven shoulders had an improved result from short to long term, and only two deteriorated. An upward migration of the hum

BACKGROUND: All-suture anchors (ASAs) are increasingly used in biceps tenodesis (BT), and their fixation strength may vary with cortical bone and surgical position. Defining the influence of bone mineral density (BMD) on ASA pullout strength and failure mode across the high bicipital groove (HG), low bicipital groove suprapectoral position (SUP), and subpectoral (SUB) positions may allow for optimal anchor placement.
HYPOTHESIS: ASA biomechanical characteristics at each region of the bicipital groove would improve with increasing regional BMD.
STUDY DESIGN: Controlled laboratory study.

Anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction is a common knee procedure, yet postoperative graft failure remains a challenge, particularly in high-risk populations and revision cases. Lateral extra-articular tenodesis has been introduced as an adjunct to improve rotational stability and reduce graft failure risk. This Technical Note describes a minimally invasive lateral extra-articular tenodesis using the modified Lemaire technique with a hybrid all-suture anchor construct.

The long head of the biceps tendon (LHBT) is often referred to as a "pain generator" around the shoulder, and tenodesis of the LHBT is a commonly used surgical method for treating pathologies of the tendon. Current literature indicates that tenodesis of the LHBT can lead to reduced pain, improved shoulder function, and a low failure rate. However, the definition of failure following LHBT tenodesis varies. Clinically, postoperative cramping is generally considered a sign of treatment failure, while the appearance of a Popeye sign is usually regarded as a mechanical failure. In addition, recent

BACKGROUND: Surgical management of midcarpal instability (MCI), also referred to as carpal instability nondissociative, remains controversial because of limited evidence on different techniques. This study aimed to assess and compare differences in patient-reported pain, hand and wrist function, satisfaction, range of motion, and return to work in patients with nontraumatic MCI who underwent surgical treatment either through dorsal wrist capsulodesis or 3-ligament tenodesis (3LT).
METHODS: Patients with MCI and persisting complaints after conservative therapy treated with 3LT or dorsal capsul

Revision of anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction presents various challenges not encountered in the primary settings, including malpositioned tunnels, tunnel widening, and the lack of consensus on the ideal graft to be used. This Technical Note describes a one-stage anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction revision using a bone-patellar tendon-bone autograft combined with lateral extra-articular tenodesis. This technique represents the ideal approach to tackle complex revision cases primarily characterized by tibial and femoral tunnel osteolysis and rotational knee instability. The bone-

BACKGROUND: The anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) is a primary restraint to anteroposterior as well as rotatory knee laxity. In case of concomitant lesion of menisci or other ligamentous structures, further dynamic instability is encountered. A lateral extra-articular tenodesis (LET) augmentation has been proposed by the Authors to treat or prevent residual laxity.
INDICATIONS: ACL reconstruction is recommended in young athletes involved in pivoting sports, non-contact pivoting injuries, high-grade pivot shift, deep notch sign and double bone bruise, meniscal loss, and revision of previous bon

Avascular necrosis (AVN) may occur in up to 77% of proximal humeral fractures and can cause fixation failure. Risk factors include fracture position, calcar length and medial hinge integrity. We routinely perform intra-articular biceps tenotomy with tenodesis at the level of pectoralis major to facilitate fragment identification and potentially ameliorate post-operative pain relief. Concern exists that tenotomising the biceps damages the adjacent arcuate artery, potentially increasing the rate of AVN. The purpose of this study was to evaluate whether biceps tenodesis is associated with an incr

Arthroscopic rotator cuff tendon repair is a common elective procedure performed by trained orthopaedic surgeons with a relatively low complication rate. Specifically, isolated neuropraxia of the anterior interosseous nerve (AIN) is a very rare complication of shoulder arthroscopy. An analysis of peer-reviewed published literature revealed only three articles reporting a total of seven cases that describe this specific complication following standard shoulder arthroscopic procedures. This article reports on three patients diagnosed with AIN neuropraxia following routine shoulder arthroscopy do

PURPOSE: Traditionally, biceps tenotomy has been recommended for obese, older, and less active patient populations, while tenodesis is preferred in younger, thinner, and more active individuals. In an effort to better understand the impact obesity has on the surgical management of long head of the biceps tendinopathy, the current study analyzed the effect body mass index had on surgical outcomes following open subpectoralis major biceps tenodesis.
METHODS: Patients who underwent biceps tenodesis between June 2006 and December 2013 were identified from our institution's surgical database. They

BACKGROUND: Scapholunate dissociation is the most common form of carpal instability. However, there is no gold standard for operative treatment. In this prospective observational study on 54 patients, a modified minimally invasive dynamic extensor carpi radialis longus tenodesis is described, which is characterized by a smaller approach and application of a cannulated screw and washer for tendon fixation.
METHODS: Quick-Disabilities of Arm, Shoulder and Hand (DASH)-questionnaire results, post-operative satisfaction, range of motion and grip strength are analyzed.
RESULTS: A median Quick-DASH
