The Voice of Cantú: Lower Voice Pitch Is a New Phenotypic Feature of Cantú Syndrome.

Cantú syndrome (CS) is a rare genetic condition caused by pathogenic variants in either ABCC9 or KCNJ8, leading to gain-of-function of KATP-channels. The main clinical features are hypertrichosis and cardiovascular abnormalities. This study investigates the voice characteristics in individuals with CS, an aspect that has received little attention in previous research. A total of 18 participants with molecular genetically confirmed CS were recruited, 11 females and 7 males, aged 9-63 years. Voice pitch analysis was conducted using the Voice Tools application, comparing these findings with norma

A Meta-Analysis of the Association Between the Voice Handicap Index and Objective Voice Analysis.

Purpose Dysphonia can be evaluated by both patient-reported quality of life instruments and objective acoustic and aerodynamic analyses. However, less is known about the association between the two metrics. The goal of this study was to perform a meta-analysis of the correlation of the Voice Handicap Index (VHI-30) with the following objective parameters: fundamental frequency, jitter, shimmer, harmonics to noise ratio, noise to harmonic ratio, maximum phonation time, and the Dysphonia Severity Index. Method A literature search was performed in the PubMed, Scopus, and Cumulative Index of Nursi

Cultural Competency in Voice Evaluation: Considerations of Normative Standards for Sociolinguistically Diverse Voices.

AIM: Significant differences exist in anatomical, acoustic, and aerodynamic parameters for nonspeech tasks between culturally and linguistically diverse sample populations. There is a need for expansion of the normative acoustic data to include sociolinguistically diverse groups to ensure that clinical objective measurements are accurately classifying the voice quality of all individuals. This study examined objective measures of voice quality assessment of monolingual speakers of Standard American English (SAE) with sequential bilingual, native (L1) French and Spanish speakers on perturbation

Mindfulness of voices, self-compassion, and secure attachment in relation to the experience of hearing voices.

OBJECTIVES: Developing compassion towards oneself has been linked to improvement in many areas of psychological well-being, including psychosis. Furthermore, developing a non-judgemental, accepting way of relating to voices is associated with lower levels of distress for people who hear voices. These factors have also been associated with secure attachment. This study explores associations between the constructs of mindfulness of voices, self-compassion, and distress from hearing voices and how secure attachment style related to each of these variables. DESIGN: Cross-sectional online. METHOD

Voice outcome measures: correlations with patients' assessment of their condition and the effectiveness of voice therapy.

This study investigated correlations between voice outcome measures. Participants' ratings from the Voice Handicap Index (VHI) and a self-rating scale of vocal impairment (SRS) were compared with perceptual assessment (using GRBAS) and acoustic analysis of sustained vowels and connected speech. The measures were taken from ten female participants, pre- and post-therapy. Correlations between pre-therapy measures were generally stronger than between post-therapy measures; and parameters significantly related to participants' assessment of their condition differed from those related to participan

The Minimal Important Difference of Acoustic Voice Quality Index in the Treatment of Voice Disorders.

OBJECTIVES: The acoustic voice quality index (AVQI) is a reliable tool that objectively assesses dysphonia levels using six acoustic parameters. Despite its high criterion-related concurrent validity, diagnostic accuracy, and minimal detectable change derived from test-retest reliability, the minimal important difference (MID) of the AVQI has not been tested before. This study aimed to estimate the MIDs of AVQI for improvement audibly perceived by clinicians and self-reported improvement by patients. METHODS: A retrospective study was conducted on 110 patients who received treatment for voice
