PURPOSE: To assess the long-term clinical outcomes and acceptability of pseudophakic monovision.
SETTING: Department of Ophthalmology, Kitasato University Hospital, Kanagawa, Japan.
DESIGN: Case series.
METHODS: Patients who had surgery using the monovision method with monofocal intraocular lenses had routine postoperative examinations. Assessed were visual acuity, near stereopsis, ocular deviation, patient satisfaction, and the rate of spectacle dependence preoperatively and 1, 3, and 6 months and 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 years postoperatively.

PURPOSE: Prospective randomized clinical trial to evaluate the efficacy of lyophilized corneas for deep anterior lamellar keratoplasty (DALK) in patients with keratoconus.

PURPOSE: To examine the financial viability of the Timor-Leste National Spectacle Program as it increases spectacle availability, affordability and uptake, particularly for Timor's poor.
METHODS: In rural areas, three models of ready-made spectacles were dispensed according to a tiered pricing structure of US$3.00, 1.00, 0.10 and 0.00. In addition, custom-made spectacles were available in the capital, Dili. Spectacle costs, dispensing data and income for the National Spectacle Program for 18 months from March 2007 were analyzed.

BACKGROUND: Cataract surgery with pseudophakic mini-monovision has lower out-of-pocket patient expense than premium multifocal intraocular lenses (IOL). The purpose of this study was to evaluate patient-reported satisfaction and spectacle dependence for key activities of daily living after cataract surgery with pseudophakic mini-monovision. The study also examined statistical relationships between patient demographic variables, visual acuity and satisfaction.
