Association of Sleep Characteristics With Suspected Metabolic Dysfunction-Associated Fatty Liver Disease (MAFLD) Risk Among Adults Attending a Community Health Center.

INTRODUCTION: Metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) is a growing public health concern worldwide. Emerging evidence suggests that sleep disturbances may contribute to metabolic dysfunction and hepatic steatosis; however, data from rural Indian populations remain limited. This study assessed the association between sleep quality, sleep duration, and MAFLD risk among adults attending a rural primary healthcare facility in North India. METHODS: A community-based analytical cross-sectional study was conducted among 550 adults attending the Rural Health Training Center of a

An evaluation of the feasibility of implementing a novel tobacco dependence treatment program for high-risk individuals into clinical practice within a community mental health center.

BACKGROUND: Individuals with serious mental illnesses experience deaths related to smoking at a higher prevalence than individuals without a psychotic-spectrum disorders. Traditional smoking cessation programs are often not effective among individuals with chronic mental disorders. Little is known about how to implement a tobacco cessation treatment program for this at-risk population within a community health center. The current study used qualitative methods to examine the factors that may enhance or impede the delivery of a novel tobacco cessation treatment for smokers with a psychotic-spec

Design and implementation of a Community Expert Group comprised of people with lived expertise of homelessness at an academic health research center: a program description and analysis of challenges.

The involvement of communities with a stake in healthcare research is often limited, and attempts to increase their participation and to create shared decision-making partnerships are often hindered by structural barriers. In this paper, we describe the design and implementation of a Community Expert Group comprised of people with lived expertise of homelessness at an academic health research center. We detail the group's model, guiding principles, governance structure, and activities, and discuss institutional challenges encountered over the course of this partnership. We report that the lack

Evaluation of Care Cascade Outcomes for Patients with Gestational Diabetes Mellitus in a Specialist-Supported Primary Care Model at a Community Health Center in Rhode Island.

Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is associated with significant maternal and neonatal morbidity. Timely diagnosis and appropriate management of GDM decreases adverse maternal and neonatal outcomes. This study sought to assess prevalence and management of GDM in an underserved federally qualified health center (FQHC) setting in Rhode Island using a care cascade framework. A three-year retrospective chart review of patients who initiated obstetrical care between 2019 and 2021 was conducted. Of this sample, 16.81% patients met criteria for a GDM diagnosis, two-thirds of whom ultimately require

Is there a difference in sample adequacy when vaginal HPV DNA samples are self-collected at home, a health post, or a primary care health center in rural Ethiopia? Implications for community cervical cancer screening.

BACKGROUND: Self-collection of HPV DNA samples is recommended as a cervical cancer screening method in areas with high barriers to clinical examination, such as Ethiopia. Self-collected sample adequacy in clinical settings is high compared to clinician collection, but less is known about self-collected sample adequacy in community settings. We evaluated sample adequacy differences when samples were taken at women’s homes, a local health post, or a primary care health center in rural Ethiopia. METHODS: Women either self-collected vaginal samples for HPV DNA at home (Arm 1, n = 100), at a health

Establishing a SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) Drive-Through Collection Site: A Community-Based Participatory Research Partnership With a Federally Qualified Health Center.

The COVID-19 pandemic has disproportionately affected underserved and minority populations in the United States. This is partially attributable to limited access to diagnostic testing from deeply rooted structural inequities precipitating higher infection and mortality rates. We describe the process of establishing a drive-through collection site by leveraging an academic-community partnership between a medical institution and a federally qualified health center in Minnesota. Over 10 weeks, 2006 COVID-19 tests were provided to a socioeconomically disadvantaged population of racial/ethnic minor
