[Correlation between dental status and dental anxiety].

The relationship between dental status and dental anxiety was analysed in 165 patients. To assess the dental status, D3.4 MFS-index and Bleeding-on-Probing-Index (BOP) were applied. Dental anxiety was assessed using dental anxiety rating, whereas aspects of state and trait anxiety were analysed by the State-Trait-Anxiety Inventory. The hypothesis was: higher levels of dental anxiety lead to avoiding check-ups and necessary treatment, the consequence of which is a deterioration of the dental status. No significant correlation was found between dental anxiety and dental status. A significant dif

Mediation Analysis Between Brain Age, Disease-Modifying Factors, and Disability and Cognitive Performance in Multiple Sclerosis.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: The brain-predicted age difference (brain-PAD) is considered a marker of neurodegeneration in people with multiple sclerosis (pwMS) and is associated with greater disability and cognitive impairment. However, the impact of disease-modifying factors (DMFs) on brain-PAD remains unknown, as does the extent to which their effect on disability and cognition is mediated through brain-PAD. The goal of this study was to investigate this in pwMS using a same-age cohort to eliminate calendar age as a confounding factor. METHODS: Brain age was determined using brainageR from 3

Caries Experience in Elderly People Consuming a Milk-Based Drink Nutritional Supplement: A Cross-Sectional Study.

Nutritional supplements have been recommended to cope with malnutrition in elderly persons. In Chile, the Supplementary Nutrition Program for the Elderly (PACAM, for its Spanish acronym) consists in a monthly distribution of a low-fat-milk-based drink that contains 8% sucrose. The aim of this study was to determine whether older persons consuming the milk-based drink have a higher caries experience when compared to those not receiving the supplement. A cross-sectional study was conducted in the Maule Region in Chile. The representative sample comprised two groups: (a) PACAM consumers (CS) (n =

Structural color changes in permanent enamel of patients with cleft lip and palate: a case-control study.

OBJECTIVES: White spots are more common in patients with cleft lip and palate (CLP) than in the normal population. Whether these are due to the cleft itself or concomitant circumstances (e.g., surgical procedures, orthodontic treatments, systemic fluoridation, increased caries risk) remains unclear. This case-control study evaluated both their prevalence in CLP patients versus control subjects and associated risk factors. PATIENTS AND METHODS: A total of 73 CLP patients (average age 8.7 years, range 6-18 years, 42 % male) and a control group of 73 age- and gender-matched non-CLP patients were
