Conjugated polymers derive their optoelectronic function from π-delocalization. However, this feature renders them intrinsically susceptible to photochemical degradation. Here, we show that intrinsic stability can be altered without changing chemical composition by repositioning side chains. In polydiphenylacetylene derivatives, shifting substituents from the para to the meta position increases photostability by more than fivefold. AIMS: In addition to well-documented tachycardias involving twin atrioventricular (AV) nodes, tachycardias involving a single node have been clinically experienced in right atrial isomerism (RAI). RATIONALE: Right atrial isomerism (RAI) is one of the most severe forms of congenital heart disease. This case of RAI was so complex that it incorporated 7 heart defects. Left atrial isomerism (LAI) is a rare congenital anomaly usually associated with major or minor congenital cardiac lesions. Presentation beyond childhood is unusual as there is usually high morbidity of 63% associated with the co-morbid major congenital cardiac lesions in the first year of life. Patients with right atrial isomerism and total anomalous pulmonary venous connection (TAPVC) in a functionally univentricular heart are a challenging subset with a high mortality rate. We present the case of a patient with univentricular heart who had right atrial isomerism and associated mixed TAPVC (supracardiac, cardiac, and infracardiac). The anatomy was delineated precisely, and the patient underwent first-stage univentricular palliation consisting of TAPVC repair and bilateral bidirectional superior cavopulmonary anastomosis.

The association of left isomerism with tetralogy of Fallot (TOF) is rare and reported as scattered case reports. Complex congenital cardiac and noncardiac malformations are known to be associated with left isomerism, but right-sided obstructive lesions are rare. We present a case with left isomerism, interruption of the inferior caval vein, anomalous systemic venous drainage with partially anomalous pulmonary venous drainage, and a sinus venosus type of atrial septal defect in the absence of a right superior caval vein. This report is of interest because of a rare combination of these anomalies, which was accurately diagnosed and successfully repaired.
