Management and outcomes of persistent headache after accidental dural puncture in the obstetric population: A 9-year prospective audit.

OBJECTIVE: To assess the effectiveness and safety of a novel management pathway in the obstetric population presenting to a pain medicine clinic with persistent headache after accidental dural puncture (PHADP). BACKGROUND: Accidental dural puncture (ADP) can result in headaches that persist for months to years. These headaches can be a therapeutic challenge, often cause severe disability, and management pathway remains obscure. METHODS: Obstetric patients with PHADP referred to a pain medicine physician were prospectively followed up in a longitudinal audit of a novel management pathway. ADP

Clinical Characteristics and Management of Rare Metabolic Bone Diseases: An Audit of the Rare Metabolic Bone Disease Registry of India.

Rare diseases, defined by the 2002 Rare Disease Act, affect fewer than 5 in 10,000 individuals. Rare metabolic bone diseases (MBDs), such as osteogenesis imperfecta, hypophosphatasia, osteopetrosis, and other unclassified disorders, can disrupt bone development and remodeling, posing diagnostic and management challenges. This study analyzed data from the rarembd.in registry (2010-2024), a 15-year database documenting only rare MBDs. Clinical presentation and demographic data of patients with rare MBDs were collated. Common MBDs (osteoporosis, primary hyperparathyroidism) were excluded. Genetic

An audit on the management and outcomes of infants at risk of congenital syphilis in the Top End of the Northern Territory, Australia, 2005-2013.

INTRODUCTION: Congenital syphilis (CS) remains a condition of serious clinical and public health importance, particularly in the Aboriginal populations of northern Australia, which have seen a recent resurgence in cases. In 2005, the Northern Territory (NT) Centre for Disease Control (CDC) published guidelines for management of infants at risk of CS. We audited the management and outcomes of infants at risk of CS who were born between 2005 and 2013 in the Darwin and Katherine regions of the NT. METHODS: Data, including serology, clinical examination, treatment, follow-up and infant outcomes a

Pulsed radiofrequency treatment adjacent to the lumbar dorsal root ganglion for the management of lumbosacral radicular syndrome: a clinical audit.

INTRODUCTION: Lumbosacral radicular syndrome (LRS) is probably the most frequent neuropathic pain syndrome. Three months to 1 year after onset, 30% of the patients still experience ongoing pain. The management of those patients is complex, and treatment success rates are rather low. The beneficial effect of pulsed radiofrequency (PRF) therapy has been described for the treatment of LRS in case reports and in retrospective and prospective studies. Up until now, no neurological complications have been reported after PRF treatment. The current clinical audit has been performed to assess the amoun

[Impact of a new regional management for postpartum hemorrhages by an audit of severe cases: a before and after study (2002-2005)].

BACKGROUND: Postpartum haemorrhage (PPH) is still the first cause of maternal mortality in France. Most of these cases include inappropriate management. In 2004, regional guidelines were diffused to all the birthplaces in Basse-Normandie. To assess the impact of this regional management, an epidemiological study "before-after" (2002-2005) has been performed. Part of this study was the evaluation of the management of severe PPH. OBJECTIVE: This study assessed the quality of care for major PPH and the correct follow-up of the guidelines before and after 2004. MATERIAL AND METHODS: A clinical a

Impact of Electronic Prescribing on Parkinson's Disease Medication Management: A Retrospective Before-and-After Audit at a UK Teaching Hospital.

BACKGROUND: Parkinson's disease (PD) medications are classified as time-critical, with delays or omissions potentially leading to increased morbidity, prolonged admissions, and worsened clinical outcomes. The introduction of electronic prescribing (EPR) has shown potential to reduce prescribing errors, but its impact on PD-specific medication safety remains unclear. This audit aimed to evaluate the accuracy and timeliness of PD medication prescribing and administration before and after the implementation of EPR at a UK teaching hospital. METHODS: A retrospective clinical audit was conducted a

Clinical impact of the Z0011 trial on axillary surgical management in Australia and New Zealand from the BreastSurgANZ Quality Audit.

BACKGROUND: The clinical management of the axilla in early breast cancer has changed since the Z0011 trial, which showed that axillary lymph node dissection (ALND) is not necessary in select patients with a positive sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB). Studies have shown a significant decrease in the rates of completion ALND (cALND) since Z0011. The aims of this study were to investigate the effect of the Z0011 trial on the management of positive axillary sentinel nodes and the trends in axillary surgical management since 2005 in Australia and New Zealand. METHODS: This study utilized prospecti

Audit on Intraductal Papilloma of the Breast: Upgrade Rate, Management Pitfalls, and Updated Guidelines in a Tertiary Health Care Center.

Background Intraductal papillomas (IDPs) are typically classified as B3 lesions in histology as they may show intralesional heterogeneity with a potential upgrade to malignancy. On core needle biopsy (CNB), a distinction between papilloma versus papillary ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) may be difficult. It is well known that otherwise benign papillomas may harbor foci of atypical ductal hyperplasia or DCIS. In this study, we aimed to calculate the radiological (mammogram and ultrasound) accuracy of IDP and to analyze the accuracy of CNB to diagnose IDP. Furthermore, we calculated the percenta

Effectiveness of 'in-cast' pneumatic intermittent pedal compression for the pre-operative management of closed ankle fractures: a clinical audit.

BACKGROUND: Timing of surgery for ankle fractures is largely dependent on the condition of the surrounding soft-tissues. This study aimed to determine the clinical effectiveness of a pre-operative in-cast artero-venous (AV) impulse device in the management of closed ankle fractures requiring surgery. METHODS: A consecutive series of 64 closed ankle fractures were managed using the AV impulse system prior to surgery. Patients were compared to 73 consecutive closed ankle fractures managed surgically in the same unit immediately prior to the implementation of the AV impulse device study. Outcome

[Efficacy and safety of continuous subcutaneous injection of the compound oxycodone in cancer pain management: the first 4-year audit].

The compound oxycodone injection, but not pure oxycodone, has been available since the 1920's in Japan. The compound, containing oxycodone and hydrocotarnine, can be subcutaneously administered. Hydrocotarnine is a non-narcotic opium alkaloid. Nowadays, along with the increase in the prescription frequency of oral oxycodone, the compound oxycodone injection is regarded as an important alternative in palliative care. However, few clinical reports about this drug have been documented in Japan. We have intensively introduced the compound for cancer pain control since 4 years ago and we report a s
