Multimodal Imaging Findings in Two Children With Microphthalmos.

Microphthalmos, also called microphthalmia, is a rare developmental disorder of the eye that can be caused by genetic or chromosomal abnormalities or environmental factors. The spectrum of clinical presentation includes nanophthalmia and posterior microphthalmia. It affects approximately one in 1,000 individuals, although there is insufficient literature regarding the clinical and different imaging modalities findings. [Ophthalmic Surg Lasers Imaging Retina. 2021;52:444-446.].

Morning glory disc anomaly-associated maculopathy: multimodal imaging.

Morning glory disc anomaly (MGDA) is most commonly found in white females in childhood with reduced vision. One in two cases have been reported to develop maculopathy or posterior pole retinal detachment as they grow older. The pathophysiology of MGDA-associated maculopathy is not well understood. We describe a 31-year-old black woman, who presented with gradual reduction of vision in the right eye due to MGDA-associated maculopathy. We identified morphological characteristics of the optic disc and macula with multicolour and optical coherence tomography imaging. We speculate that the centripeta

Exploring experimental autoimmune optic neuritis using multimodal imaging.

BACKGROUND: Neuro-axonal injury is a key contributor to non-reversible long-term disability in multiple sclerosis (MS). However, the underlying mechanisms are not yet fully understood. Visual impairment is common among MS patients, in which episodes of optic neuritis (ON) are often followed by structural retinal damage and sustained functional impairment. Alterations in the optic nerve and retina have also been described in experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE), a rodent model of MS. Thus, investigating structural anterior visual pathway damage may constitute a unique model for asses

Multimodal Ultrawide-Field Imaging Features in Waardenburg Syndrome.

A 45-year-old woman was referred for bilateral irregular fundus pigmentation. Dilated fundus examination revealed irregular hypopigmentation posterior to the equator in both eyes, confirmed by fundus autofluorescence. A thickened choroid was seen on enhanced-depth imaging spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (EDI SD-OCT). Systemic evaluation revealed sensorineural deafness, telecanthus, and a white forelock. Further investigation revealed a first-degree relative with Waardenburg syndrome. Waardenburg syndrome is characterized by a group of features including telecanthus, a broad nasal

[Multimodal cardiovascular imaging before aortic valve transcatheter replacement].

Calcified aortic valve stenosis is the most frequent valvular heart disease in developed countries with a very poor outcome when symptoms develop. However, several of these patients are denied for surgery. The main reasons are their advanced age (elderly patient), co-morbidities, technical limitations and a very high surgical risk. It is currently possible to propose a Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI). After selection of candidates, the feasibility of the intervention is analysed. The size of the aortic bioprosthesis must be selected according to the cardiac anatomy. Several card

Imaging horse tendons using multimodal 2-photon microscopy.

Injuries and damage to tendons plague both human and equine athletes. At the site of injuries, various cells congregate to repair and re-structure the collagen. Treatments for collagen injury range from simple procedures such as icing and pharmaceutical treatments to more complex surgeries and the implantation of stem cells. Regardless of the treatment, the level of mechanical stimulation incurred by the recovering tendon is crucial. However, for a given tendon injury, it is not known precisely how much of a load should be applied for an effective recovery. Both too much and too little loading

Evaluation of imaging features of pelvic echinococcosis based on multimodal images.

BACKGROUND: Hydatid disease (HD) is a zoonotic parasitic disease caused by the larvae of Echinococcus, It is mainly prevalent in pastoral areas. Bone echinococcosis is rare, accounting for 0.5 to 4.0% of all echinococcosis. It is likely to miss the diagnosis and misdiagnose due to non-specific early symptoms and the clinical manifestations and imaging features. The clinical data of 15 patients with pelvic cystic echinococcosis were analyzed retrospectively, and the X-ray, CT, and MRI imaging features of the disease were discussed, which are reported below. METHODS: All 15 patients underwent C

Multimodality Imaging of Vertebrobasilar Dolichoectasia: Clinical Presentations and Imaging Spectrum.

Vertebrobasilar dolichoectasia (VBD) is characterized by ectasia, elongation, and tortuosity of the vertebrobasilar arteries, with a high degree of variability in clinical presentation. The disease origin is believed to involve degeneration of the internal elastic lamina, thinning of the media secondary to reticular fiber deficiency, and smooth muscle atrophy. The prevalence of VBD is variable, ranging from 0.05% to 18%. Most patients with VBD are asymptomatic and their VBD is detected incidentally; however, it is important to recognize that the presence of symptoms, which can lead to clinical

Crohn Disease Strictures: Multimodality Imaging to Identify Imaging Biomarkers.

The morphologic imaging features of Crohn disease (CD) small bowel strictures have been defined by intersociety recommendations and expert panels. CD small bowel strictures result in penetrating and obstructing complications that often lead to surgery. Imaging biomarkers in fibrostenosing CD can be used to reproducibly diagnose and measure strictures and identify those at high risk for subsequent surgery. Emerging biomarkers seek to accurately and reproducibly identify and measure histopathologic correlates of fibrosis, inflammation, and smooth muscle hyperplasia or hypertrophy, as well as to

MerMED-FM: Multimodal, Multi-Disease Medical Imaging Foundation Model.

BACKGROUND: Current artificial intelligence (AI) models for medical imaging predominantly focus on a single imaging modality and a single disease. Attempts to create multimodal and multi-disease models have resulted in inconsistent clinical accuracy. Furthermore, training these models typically requires large, well labelled datasets, which are costly and labour intensive to prepare. We aimed to train and evaluate an AI model that can interpret diverse imaging modalities across specialties while maintaining robust performance within each modality. METHODS: We developed Multimodal, Multi-Diseas
