Multiple endocrine neoplasia type 1 (MEN1) syndrome is a rare autosomal dominant disorder characterized by predisposition to a multitude of endocrine neoplasms. Cushing syndrome (CS) within MEN1 presents complex diagnostic and therapeutic challenges. We report a case of a 36-year-old male with adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH)-dependent Cushing disease and MEN1 syndrome with thymic and pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors. The patient presented with weight gain, weakness and proximal myopathy. Biochemical testing confirmed ACTH-dependent hypercortisolism. Imaging revealed a pituitary microadenoma

Multiple endocrine neoplasia type 1 (MEN 1) is a rare hereditary disease which transmitted as autosomal dominant disorder with high penetrance. MEN1 includes vary combinations of more than 20 endocrine and non-endocrine tumors. Clinically, MEN1 is characterized by tumor or hyperplasia in two or more endocrine tissues (parathyroid, pituitary, pancreas, adrenal glands). Since it is a rare condition, there are no guidelines with respect to the follow-up of pregnant women with MEN 1, here we the first Asian case of a 32-year-old primigravida with a confirmed diagnosis of MEN1 and primary hypertens

The multiple endocrine neoplasia type 1 (MEN1) is a rare syndrome characterized by the predisposition to developing multiple endocrine and non-endocrine tumors, typically characterized by the association between parathyroid gland hyperplasia or tumors, gastroenteropancreatic tumors and pituitary adenomas. The MEN1 gene is located on the long arm of chromosome 11 (11q13) and it encodes for the protein "menin". We here reported the case of a MEN1-patient, affected by primary hyperparathyroidism, insulinoma, pituitary non-hyperfunctioning adenoma and bilateral adrenal masses, carrying a novel het

Parathyroid carcinoma is an infrequent cause of primary hyperparathyroidism. Although hyperparathyroidism in multiple endocrine neoplasia 1 (MEN1) syndrome is the most common manifestation, parathyroid carcinoma is rare. We report a male patient who was diagnosed at 44 years of age with parathyroid carcinoma in the context of MEN1 syndrome coincident with a malignant gastrinoma and non-functioning adrenal adenomas. A genetic analysis revealed the mutation W183C in exon 3 of the MEN1 gene. The diagnosis of carcinoma was made after parathyroid surgery; there had been no clinical suspicion prior

Multiple endocrine neoplasia type 1 (MEN 1) is a syndrome characterized by tumors of the parathyroid glands, pancreatic islet cells, duodenum, and pituitary gland. We report a case of cervical metastases of glucagonoma with MEN 1. The patient was a 34-year-old woman admitted to our hospital with epigastric pain. Her medical history included two resections of prolactinoma and two upper GI hemorrhages secondary to duodenal ulcers. Computed tomography (CT) showed two hypervascular lesions in the tail of the pancreas and cervical ultrasound showed multiple hypoechogenic ovoid images in the neck. A

HYPOTHESIS: The most appropriate surgical approach for hyperparathyroidism (HPT) in multiple endocrine neoplasia type 1 remains controversial. It has been advocated that reoperations for recurrent disease are easier to perform after total parathyroidectomy (TP) with autotransplantation than after subtotal parathyroidectomy (SP). In view of our large experience in patients with secondary HPT for whom TP with autotransplantation did not simplify reoperations, SP remains our preferred treatment for patients with HPT and multiple endocrine neoplasia type 1.
DESIGN: Retrospective cohort study.

Multiple endocrine neoplasia type 1 (MEN1) is an inherited syndrome that is characterised by the occurrence of tumours in the parathyroid glands, the endocrine pancreas, the pituitary gland and the adrenal glands and by neuroendocrine carcinoid tumours, often at a young age. The penetrance of MEN1 among gene carriers is reported to be high; 82-99% at age 50. We present a patient with a history of parathyroid adenomas also showing signs of acromegaly. He turned out to be a carrier of a MEN1 germ-line mutation in intron 3 (IVS3-6C > G). This germ-line mutation was also found in nine of his famil

A review of 106 patients with multiple endocrine neoplasia (MEN) type 1 reported between 1966-1989 in Japan was conducted in order to clarify the natural history of this disease. Sporadic MEN 1 was found in 61 patients, and familial MEN 1 was found in 45 patients from 15 families. The mean ages at diagnosis of the two groups were 46.2 and 41.3 years, respectively, and the male to female ratio was 3:4. With regards to the involvement of the pituitary, parathyroid and endocrine pancreas, the combination of three endocrine glands was 31%, and that of two was 48%, in which the pituitary, parathyro

Multiple endocrine neoplasia type 1 (MEN-1) is a predisposition to hyperplasia of the parathyroid glands, and to hyperplasia or tumours of the anterior pituitary and the endocrine pancreas, and is inherited as an autosomal dominant trait. Here we map the MEN-1 locus to chromosome 11 by family studies, and demonstrate tight linkage with the human muscle phosphorylase gene. By comparing constitutional and tumour tissue genotypes of insulinomas from a pair of brothers who had inherited MEN-1 from their mother, we have shown that oncogenesis in these cases involves unmasking of a recessive mutatio

Multiple endocrine neoplasia type 1 (MEN1) is an autosomal-inherited syndrome involving multiple endocrine tumors. It is characterized by multiple mutations in the tumor suppressor gene MEN1, which is located on chromosome 11q13. As main etiology of MEN1 is genetic mutations, clinical symptoms may vary. In this editorial, we comment on the article by Yuan et al. This article describes a case of (MEN1) characterized by low incidence and diagnostic complexity. MEN1 commonly presents as parathyroid, pancreatic, and pituitary tumors. Diagnosis requires a combination of serologic tests, magnetic re

INTRODUCTION: Historically, Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia type 1 (MEN1)-related pituitary adenomas (PAs) were considered more aggressive and treatment-resistant than sporadic PAs. However, recent studies suggest similarities in their behavior. This study aimed to evaluate the long-term outcomes of MEN1 PAs and identify predictive factors.
METHODS: Nationwide multicenter retrospective cohort study of MEN1-related PAs with a minimum 1-year follow-up, collecting patient demographics, germline MEN1 pathogenic variants (PV), PA size, secretory profile, radiological characteristics, treatments, and

Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia type 1 (MEN1) is a rare genetic disease, characterized by co-occurrence of several lesions of the endocrine system. In MEN1, the pathogenic MEN1 gene mutations lead to the Abnormal expression of menin, a critical tumor suppressor protein. We here reported a case of a 14-year-old male with insulinoma and primary hyperparathyroidism. Genetic testing demonstrated a novel heterozygote variant c.587delA of MEN1, resulting in the substitution of the 196th amino acid, changing from glutamic acid to glycine, followed by a frameshift translation of 33 amino acids. Multiple endocrine neoplasia type 1 (MEN1) is an autosomal dominant disorder characterized by the occurrence of parathyroid, pancreatic and pituitary tumors, and is due to mutations in the coding region of the MEN1 gene, which encodes menin. We investigated a family with identical twins that had MEN1, with different MEN1 tumors. DNA sequence analysis of the MEN1 coding region had not identified any abnormalities and we hypothesized that deletions and mutations involving the untranslated regions may be involved. Informed consent and venous blood samples were obtained from five family members. S

BACKGROUND: Recently, some surgeons have suggested that minimally invasive parathyroidectomy guided by preoperative localizing studies of patients with multiple endocrine neoplasia type 1 (MEN1)-associated primary hyperparathyroidism (pHPT) provides an acceptable outcome while minimizing the risk of hypoparathyroidism. This study aimed to evaluate the outcome for MEN1 patients who underwent limited parathyroidectomy compared with subtotal parathyroidectomy.
METHODS: The authors performed a retrospective analysis of 99 patients with MEN1-associated pHPT who underwent at least one parathyroid o

The objective of this study is to present a familial Cushing syndrome (CS) caused by multiple endocrine neoplasia type 1 (MEN-1)-associated thymic carcinoid. Immunohistochemistry, gene sequencing, loss of heterozygosity analysis, and Western blot were used to determine the expression of ACTH in MEN-1-related thymic tumors, MEN1 gene mutation, the pattern and extent of allelic deletion, and the expression of Menin in MEN-1-associated tumors, respectively. Tumor cells from thymus ectopic-secreted ACTH. A deletion involving the MEN1 gene locus was confirmed. The expression of Menin in MEN-1-assoc
