PURPOSE: Optic disk pit (ODP) is a rare congenital abnormality of the optic nerve head that can lead to a maculopathy characterized mainly by serous retinal detachment. Optic disk pit maculopathy (ODP-M) in children is rare, and at present, the best management is still unknown. Long-lasting ODP-M can lead to organic amblyopia and photoreceptor damage, whereas surgical treatments are invasive and have an uncertain prognosis. We present a case of spontaneous resolution of ODP-M in a child who was monitored morphologically and functionally during a 6-year follow-up.

PURPOSE: To correlate morphologic changes of the optic disk with mean visual field defect in glaucoma.
METHODS: Color optic disk photographs of 302 patients with primary open-angle glaucoma, 53 patients with pseudoexfoliative glaucoma, and 55 patients with normal-pressure glaucoma were morphometrically evaluated. The data were correlated with mean visual field defect.

On the basis of archival records of 1463 patients treated in the period 1964-1986 the author isolated the cases of primary open angle glaucoma (2248 eyes) and closed angle glaucoma (333 eyes). The influence of the intraocular pressure on the grade of damage done to the nervous fibres and manifesting itself by pathological changes of the optic disc and visual field was analyzed. It was discovered that this influence was statistically significant especially in cases of closed angle glaucoma.

Optic disk melanocytoma (ODM) is a rare ophthalmic tumor that can present with local compressive effects such as retinal vascular occlusion (RVO) that results in neovascularization of the disk (NVD) and is reportedly challenging to treat. We report the case of a 9-year-old girl with a severe and uncommon presentation of juvenile idiopathic arthritis-related posterior uveitis, with neovessels at the optic disk associated with peripheral vasculitis. After two failed bevacizumab intravitreal injections, uveitis responded to systemic adalimumab administration, with a complete and long-term remission of ocular inflammation.
