Nuss procedure for combined pectus excavatum and carinatum in a patient with a history of congenital esophageal atresia repair surgery.

Cardiothoracic surgery usually causes tissue adhesion on the operation site which increases the risk of complications in the subsequent thoracic surgery including Nuss procedure. Disorders that require cardiothoracic surgery include chest wall deformities such as pectus excavatum, congenital heart diseases, lung diseases such as congenital cystic adenomatiod malformation and bronchopulmonary dysplasia, and congenital diaphragmatic hernia. Recently, we encountered a rare case of combined pectus excavatum and carinatum in a patient with a history of congenital esophageal atresia repair surgery.

Pectus excavatum and pectus carinatum patients suffer from lower quality of life and impaired body image: a control group comparison of psychological characteristics prior to surgical correction.

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of anterior chest-wall deformities on disease-specific and health-related quality of life, body image, and psychiatric comorbidity prior to surgical correction. METHODS: A total of 90 patients (71 with pectus excavatum, 19 with pectus carinatum) presenting themselves for pectus repair and 82 control subjects were recruited for this study. The objective severity of the deformity was determined through the funnel-chest index by Hümmer and the Haller index. Disease-specific quality of life was measured with the Nuss Questionnaire modif

Surgical adjuncts in minimally invasive repair of pectus excavatum and carinatum deformities: techniques for internal visualization, sternal elevation, and depression.

Over the past two decades, the repair of pectus excavatum (PE) and pectus carinatum (PC) has evolved significantly, driven by innovations in surgical adjuncts and device development. Originally limited by high risks due to blind mediastinal dissection and force-based correction, pectus repair techniques now prioritize safety, precision, and minimal invasiveness. This paper introduces a series of adjunctive techniques and custom-designed tools that address major limitations in PE and PC surgery. The pectoscope, with its curved shaft and touch-view functionality, allows safe internal visualizati

Anaesthetic Management of Laparoscopic Morgagni Hernia Repair in a Patient with Coexisting Down Syndrome, Patent Foramen Ovale and Pectus Carinatum.

Laparoscopic repair has several advantages with a minimally invasive surgical option for children with Morgagni hernias; however, a number of physiological sequelae results from pneumoperitoneum and insufflation. These physiological changes may be more significant in patients with a congenital heart disease. Perioperative detailed evaluation, meticulous monitorization and cooperation with a surgical team are important in cases with patent foramen ovale for the possible risk of the paradoxical gas embolism. We present the anaesthetic management of a patient with patent foramen ovale, Down syndr

MyPectus: First-in-human pilot study of remote compliance monitoring of teens using dynamic compression bracing to correct pectus carinatum.

BACKGROUND: Patient compliance is a crucial determinant of outcomes in treatments involving medical braces, such as dynamic compression therapy for pectus carinatum (PC). We performed a pilot study to assess a novel, wireless, real-time monitoring system (MyPectus) to address noncompliance. METHODS: Eight patients (10-16years old) with moderately severe PC deformities underwent bracing. Each patient received a data logger device inserted in the compression brace to sense temperature and pressure. The data were transmitted via Bluetooth 4.0 to an iOS smartphone app, then synced to cloud-based

A Comparative Study on Short-Term Effects of Compression Orthosis and Exercises in the Treatment of Pectus Carinatum: A Randomized Controlled Pilot Feasibility Trial.

INTRODUCTION: Pectus carinatum (PC) is a congenital chest wall deformity which is characterized by the protrusion of the sternum and costal cartilages. Although orthotic and exercise therapies are commonly offered by physicians for PC treatment, there is a lack of evidence on the benefits of exercises and how long the orthosis should be worn. The aim of this study is to investigate the effects and feasibility of custom-made compression orthosis and exercises in the treatment of PC. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Patients with PC aged 7 to 17 years old were randomized into three groups: compression or
