A 59-year old man developed subacute tetraparesis following severe sudden neck pain. MRI showed a subdural cervical hematoma. Prothrombin complex activity was low. An unusual coagulopathy after rodenticides exposure was found. Diphenacoum, an effective antagonist of vitamin K1, was present in the patients plasma. Specific medical management led to a complete recovery. Follow-up MRI seventy days later confirmed the complete disappearance of the hematoma.

A newborn infant demonstrated prenatal, bilateral chronic subdural hematomas with recent hemorrhage, internal hydrocephalus, and macrocephaly at birth. Serial cranial ultrasound and computed tomography evaluations revealed progressive hydrocephalus and subdural hematomas. Following surgical evacuation of subdural hematomas the child developed tension pneumocephalus with clinical deterioration. The pathogenesis of congenital subdural hematoma and rare postoperative complication of tension pneumocephalus are discussed.

A 74-year-old woman had acute cervical transverse myelopathy from a neurilemmoma. Although extremely rare, the possibility of tumor should be recognized in patients with apparently spontaneous spinal subdural hematoma. As in other cases of compressive myelopathy, early operation is essential for recovery of neurological deficit.

A case of spontaneous posterior fossa subdural hematoma secondary to anticoagulation therapy with definitive diagnosis made by vertebral angiography is reported. Vertebral angiographic findings are illustrated and demonstrate primarily mass effect from posterior compartment of posterior fossa and avascular area. Carotid angiography did not show hydrocephalus. A review of the literature was made and this appears to be the first reported case in which a posterior fossa subdural hematoma has been diagnosed by vertebral angiography.

Two cases of relapsing juvenile chronic subdural hematoma with late relapse in adult life are presented and the literature reviewed. Both patients contracted subdural hematoma early in life; its persistence resulted in characteristic skull deformitites. The patients led an asymptomatic life until a second head trauma caused rebleeding into the old hematoma sac with recurring symptoms and signs. Chronic subdural hematomas (cSDHs) have risen in incidence to ≈17 to 19 cases per 100 000 persons per year over the recent decade, especially in the elderly population, with an estimated incidence of up to 355 cases per 100 000 per year in those ≥85 years. cSDHs are projected to be the most common neurosurgical condition by 2030. Recurrence rates with current treatment approaches, such as surgical evacuation with burr hole craniostomy or craniotomy, are high. Chronic subdural hematoma (cSDH) recurrence after burr-hole drainage remains incompletely understood, and the role of adjunctive middle meningeal artery embolization (MMAE) in reducing recurrence is debated. BACKGROUND: Retroclival hematomas are a rare entity and may occur in 3 compartments, namely the epidural, subdural, and subarachnoid spaces. They are frequently secondary to trauma. Hemophilia is a clinical syndrome affecting usually men and characterized by the inherited tendency to bleed excessively after slight injury. Hemophilia is caused by a specific defect of coagulation factor VIII. The main concern associated with the disease is bleeding, especially after trauma and surgeries. The most serious site of bleeding is the central nervous system.
