Plastic aligners have transformed orthodontics, offering a discreet, comfortable, and aesthetically pleasing alternative to traditional fixed appliances. While they have advantages over fixed appliances, they come with environmental and health concerns due to the use of nonbiodegradable plastics, such as the leaching of Bisphenol-A (BPA) and microplastics that can impact human health directly through ingestion. Studies have shown that plastic aligners release microplastics during use, raising concerns about their potential health effects and environmental pollution. The potential health effect

BACKGROUND: Bisphenol A (BPA) is an endocrine disrupting chemical released from plastic materials, including food packaging and dental sealants, persisting in the environment and ubiquitously contaminating ecosystems and human populations. BPA can elicit an array of damaging health effects and, alarmingly, 'BPA-free' alternatives mirror these harmful effects. Bisphenol exposure can negatively impact female fertility, damaging both the ovary and oocytes therein. Such damage can diminish reproductive capacity, pregnancy success, and offspring health. Despite global government regulations in plac

Serious attention was lacked for various pollutants formed in both gas and tar phase during pyrolysis recycling of waste wind turbine blades (WWTB), especially for components of carcinogenic bisphenol A (BPA) and potentially toxic polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in tar. Pyrolysis temperature within 400-600 °C would significantly impact pollutant formations. Additionally, CO2 had a potential to mitigate pollutants emission as an economic alternative for N2. This article investigated the influence of these factors on nitrogenous and PAHs components during WWTB pyrolysis through fixed bed

Bisphenol A (BPA) is an endocrine-disrupting chemical widely present in many consumer goods that poses a significant threat to our health upon exposure. Humans are exposed to BPA, which directly or indirectly causes endocrine dysfunctions that lead to metabolic disorders like obesity, fatty liver diseases, insulin resistance, polycystic ovarian syndrome, and other endocrine- related imbalances. The duration, quantity, and period of exposure to BPA, especially during the critical stage of development, determine its impact on reproductive and non-reproductive health. Because of its endocrine-dis

BACKGROUND: The Consortium Linking Academic and Regulatory Insights on Bisphenol A Toxicity (CLARITY-BPA) was a collaborative research effort to better link academic research with governmental guideline studies. This review explores the secondary goal of CLARITY-BPA: to identify endpoints or technologies from CLARITY-BPA and prior/concurrent literature from these laboratories that may enhance the capacity of rodent toxicity studies to detect endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs).
METHODS: A systematic literature search was conducted with search terms for BPA and the CLARITY-BPA participants.

The public concern and governmental regulations on bisphenol A (BPA) have stimulated the development and production of alternative analogues to replace BPA in a myriad of applications. Given the endocrine disrupting activities of BPA and potentially other analogues, the present study investigated and compared the effects of neonatal exposure to BPA, BPB, BPE, BPF, and BPS on the genital development in male mice. Pups were injected subcutaneously on the right shoulder in the mornings of postnatal days P0.5, P2, P4, and P6, resulting in a low dose of 0.05 μg/g body weight (bw)/day and a high dos

In this work, a novel dual Z-scheme Bi2WO6/g-C3N4/black phosphorus quantum dots (Bi2WO6/g-C3N4/BPQDs) composites were fabricated and utilized towards photocatalytic degradation of bisphenol A (BPA) under visible-light irradiation. Optimizing the content of g-C3N4 and BPQDs in Bi2WO6/g-C3N4/BPQDs composites to a suitable mass ratio can enhance the visible-light harvesting capacity and increase the charge separation efficiency and the transfer rate of excited-state electrons and holes, resulting in much higher photocatalytic activity for BPA degradation (95.6%, at 20 mg/L in 120 min) than that o

Bisphenol F (BPF) is increasingly substituting bisphenol A in manufacturing polycarbonates and consumer products. The cardiometabolic effects of BPF in either humans or model organisms are not clear, and no studies to date have investigated the role of genetic background on susceptibility to BPF-induced cardiometabolic traits. The primary goal of this project was to determine if BPF exposure influences growth and adiposity in male N:NIH heterogeneous stock (HS) rats, a genetically heterogeneous population. Littermate pairs of male HS rats were randomly exposed to either vehicle (0.1% ethanol)

Bisphenol A (BPA) is used as a plasticizer in polycarbonate plastics. It has been used in consumer products and epoxy resins for decades as protective coatings and linings for food and beverage bottles. This can trigger human reactions to BPA which interferes with estrogen receptors. Our study explored the ameliorative effects of selenium (Se) in male rats on liver damage caused by BPA. Rats were divided into four groups at random: The first one obtained olive oil and acted as a control. Se (0.5 mg/kg diet) was given for the second group. The third one was treated with BPA (10 mg/kg body weigh

The estrogenic property of bisphenol A (BPA) leads to potential adverse health and ecological effects. A simple, selective, and cost-effective sensor capable of detecting BPA would have a noteworthy relevance for the environmental system. The present work illustrates the synthesis and characterization of β-cyclodextrin (β-CD) functionalized zinc oxide (ZnO) quantum dots (QDs) for the selective detection of BPA. BPA has a fluorescence quenching effect on functionalized ZnO QDs, and the decrease in fluorescence intensity is associated with the BPA concentration between 2 and 10 μM. Under the opt

Plastic waste pollution is one of the leading environmental problems of modern society. Its use, disposal, and recycling lead to the release of xenobiotic compounds such as bisphenol A (BPA), a known endocrine disruptor related to numerous pathologies. Due to the new restrictions on its use, it is gradually being replaced by derived molecules, such as bisphenol F or S (BPF or BPS), whose health risks have not yet been adequately studied. In the present work, significant relationships between the new BPA substitute molecules and renal and cardiovascular diseases have been detected by performing

With the aim of obtaining halogen-free polybenzoxazazines with reduced flammability, phosphazene-containing benzoxazines (PhBZ) were synthesized in a two-stage method. In the first stage of the reaction of hexachlorocycotriphosphazene with bisphenol A at molar ratios of 1:12, 1:16, and 1:24, respectively, mixtures of bisphenol and hydroxyaryloxycyclotriphosphazenes were obtained, which mainly contained P3N3[OC6H4C(CH3)3C6H4OH]6. In the second stage, when these mixtures interacted with aniline and an excess of paraformaldehyde in toluene at 80-90 °C, PhBZ containing 20-50% of the phosphazene co

Additives, such as bisphenol A (BPA) that are added to packaging material to enhance functionality may migrate into food products creating a concern for food safety. BPA has been linked to various chronic diseases, such as: diabetes, obesity, prostate cancer, impaired thyroid function, and several other metabolic disorders. To safeguard consumers, BPA migration limits have been defined by regulatory bodies. However, it is important to address the underlying factors and mechanisms so that they can be optimized in order to minimize BPA migration. In this review, we determine the relative importa

Bisphenols' widespread use in day to day life has enabled its existence in various compartments of the environment. Bisphenol A (BPA) is utilized as a monomer in manufacturing polycarbonate plastics, epoxy resins, as well as flame retardants and is also considered as an endocrine disruptor. This study focuses on determining BPA concentration in daily-use food-grade plastic containers, in addition to its toxicity evaluation in environmental samples contaminated by BPA leachates. The highest concentration of BPA was observed in black poly bags (42.78 ppm), followed by slice juice bottles and inf

The consumption of packaged water is growing rapidly in both urban and rural centres in Burkina Faso. Bisphenol A (BPA) and trace metals are among the compounds used in the manufacture of plastic packaging, and their presence in water can pose a health risk to consumers due to their alleged toxicity. Therefore, this study explores the transfer of these compounds from plastic packaging to mineral water in Sudano-Sahelian climatic conditions. Ten samples of packaged sachet water commercialised in Ouagadougou were studied. An absence of BPA in the borehole water used to produce packaged water has

Bisphenol A (BPA) is a ubiquitous endocrine disruptor that poses adverse human health risks. Herein, biotransformation kinetics, products, and mechanisms of BPA undergoing a laccase-producing Trametes hirsuta La-7 metabolism were for the first time reported. Strain La-7 could completely biotransform ≤0.5 mmol·L-1 BPA within 6 d in vivo. Notably, its extracellular crude laccase solution (ECLS) and intracellular homogenized mycelium (HM) only required 6 h to convert 85.71% and 84.24% of 0.5 mmol·L-1 BPA in vitro, respectively. The removal of BPA was noticeably hampered by adding a cytochrome P-4

The metabolic effects of endocrine-disrupting chemicals, such as bisphenol analogues, have drawn increasing attention. Bisphenol A (BPA) usage is associated with the occurrence of many metabolic diseases. With the restricted use of BPA, alternatives like bisphenol F (BPF) and bisphenol AF (BPAF) have been greatly introduced for industrial manufacture, and brings new hazard to public health. To understand how bisphenol analogues induced metabolic effects, zebrafish are continuous exposed to environmental level (0.5 μg/L) of BPA, BPF and BPAF since embryonic stage, and identified hepatic steatos

Fluorene-9-bisphenol (BHPF) is a bisphenol A substitute, which has been introduced for the production of so-called 'bisphenol A (BPA)-free' plastics. However, it has been reported that BHPF can enter living organisms through using commercial plastic bottles and cause adverse effects. To date, the majority of the toxicologic study of BHPF focused on investigating its doses above the toxicological threshold. Here, we studied the effects of BHPF on development, locomotion, neuron differentiation of the central nervous system (CNS), and the expression of genes in the hypothalamic-pituitary-thyroid
