Idiopathic CD4+ T lymphocytopenia: A case report.

Idiopathic CD4+ T lymphocytopenia (ICL) is a very rare immunodeficiency syndrome with an unexplained depletion of CD4+ T lymphocytes and no evidence of Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) infection. Here we report a 29-year-old male patient who had severe ulcerative colitis with low level CD4+ count of 254 cells/mm3, and had no evidence of HIV or Human T cell Lymphotrophic virus type I or II infections. He had recurrent Candidiasis infection and his CD4 count was just 53 cells/mm3 after 3 months. The cause for the decline of CD4 T lymphocytes was unknown.

The use of the full blood count and differential parameters to assess immune activation levels in asymptomatic, untreated HIV infection.

BACKGROUND: A feature of HIV/AIDS is chronic immune activation, which results in a number of complications including inflammation-related disorders and blood cytopaenias. Immune activation status is not routinely tested in HIV infection. However, the full blood count (FBC) is a commonly performed test. OBJECTIVE: We hypothesised that FBC parameters would be significantly different in HIV-infected v. -uninfected individuals, and that some of these parameters would correlate with markers of immune activation (i.e. percentage CD38 expression on CD8(+) T cells (%CD38onCD8)) and disease progressio

Assessing the immune state of dogs suffering from pituitary gland dependent hyperadrenocorticism by determining changes in peripheral lymphocyte subsets.

In order to evaluate the immune state of dogs suffering from pituitary-dependent hyperadrenocorticism (PDH), peripheral lymphocyte subsets were examined. Twenty seven PDH dogs and eight healthy control dogs were used in the current study. Eight healthy dogs served as the control group. Twenty seven PDH dogs were categorized into 4 groups based on their post serum cortisol concentrations by ACTH stimulation test: 2-5, excellent control (n = 8); 5-20, fair control (n = 7); >20, poor control (n = 4); and untreated (n = 8). Cell counts were executed with white blood cells (WBC), lymphocytes, CD3(+

Correlation between HIV disease and lipid metabolism in antiretroviral-naïve HIV-infected patients in Japan.

Antiretroviral therapy alters lipid metabolism in HIV-infected patients. However, interpreting the impact of HIV infection on lipid metabolism is difficult because of various associated factors, including antiretroviral drugs and demographic characteristics. A few studies have associated HIV infection with lipid metabolism in antiretroviral-naïve HIV-infected patients. Because there were no data in this regard from Japan, the present study examined the impact of HIV infection, as well as demographic and clinical features, on lipid metabolism in antiretroviral-naïve HIV-infected patients in Jap
