Fear of arousal symptoms, often referred to as anxiety sensitivity (AS) appears to be associated with risk for anxiety pathology and other Axis I conditions. Findings from a longitudinal prevention program targeting AS are reported. Participants (n=404) scoring high on the Anxiety Sensitivity Index (ASI) were randomly assigned to receive a brief intervention designed to reduce AS (Anxiety Sensitivity Amelioration Training (ASAT)) or a control condition. Participants were followed for up to 24 months. Findings indicate that ASAT produced greater reductions in ASI levels compared with the contro

Cognitive decline in older adults, often manifested as reduced processing speed and memory, represents a significant challenge to daily functioning and overall quality of life (QoL). Physical inactivity compounds these issues, whereas increased physical activity can lead to healthier cognitive aging. This study examines the impact of wearable sensor-based interactive cognitive-motor training (ICMT) on cognitive and physical performance in older adults. In a single-blind, randomized, parallel-group trial, 36 community-dwelling older adults aged 65 and older were divided into an ICMT and a cogni

INTRODUCTION: Mild cognitive impairment (MCI) is common in older adults and represents a high-risk group for progression to Alzheimer's disease (AD). Medication trials in MCI have generally failed, but new discoveries with brain plasticity in ageing have led to the study of cognitive training as a potential treatment to improve cognitive abilities. Computerised cognitive training (CCT) involves computerised cognitive exercises that target specific cognitive abilities and neural networks to potentially improve cognitive functioning through neuroplasticity.

This study evaluated the efficacy of 12-week of Socially Assistive Robot (SAR) training program on socio-cognitive and cognitive functions in 11 individuals with early-stage Parkinson's disease (PD) and 9 healthy older adults. Both groups underwent the same intervention with the Pepper robot. Pre- and post-assessments were analyzed using mixed-design repeated-measures ANOVAs. Results showed high adherence (90 %) and a significant main effect of Time on several outcomes, including global cognition, executive functions, and Theory of Mind (ToM) tasks (all p < .05), suggesting that both groups de

BACKGROUND: Poststroke aphasia (PSA) significantly impairs language and cognitive functioning, yet few interventions comprehensively address both domains. This study evaluated the efficacy of an intervention combining acupuncture and computer-assisted cognitive rehabilitation using the RehaCom cognitive training system (hereinafter, ACR) on language and nonverbal cognitive function in individuals with PSA.
METHOD: A single-center randomized controlled trial was conducted at a tertiary rehabilitation hospital in Fujian Province, China. Eighty patients with PSA were randomly assigned (1:1) to e

UNLABELLED: Cognitive impairment can affect up to 50% of patients with chronic heart failure (CHF) and is associated with reduced treatment adherence, high mortality rates, and poor quality of life. Nonpharmacologic strategies, including cognitive intervention and physical exercise training, may help enhance cognition in patients with CHF. Recent studies in dementia prevention have shown that combining cognitive and exercise interventions could have synergistic effects on cognition, but scientific evidence for the benefits in CHF patients is lacking. Moreover, how men and women with heart fail

Age-related subjective memory complaints (SMC) are a common concern among older adults. However, little is known about the effects of cognitive stimulation (CS) interventions on subjective memory complaints. The aim of this study was to analyse the effectiveness of a CS programme on global cognition and cognitive functions of older adults with SMC. A randomised clinical trial was conducted on older adults with SMC, including 308 participants ≥65 years of age assessed 6 and 12 months after the intervention. The assessment instrument was the Spanish version of the Mini-Mental State Examination (

BACKGROUND: Cognitive training (CT) for individuals with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) may not be optimal for enhancing cognitive functioning. Coupling CT with transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) may maximize the strength of transmission across synaptic circuits in pathways that are stimulated by CT. The synergistic effects arising from this combination could be superior to those with administration of CT alone.
OBJECTIVES: To investigate whether the receiving tDCS combined with CT is superior to CT alone on domain-specific and task-specific cognitive outcomes in older adults wit

The objective of this study was to examine combination speed of processing (SOP) cognitive remediation therapy (CRT) and transcranial direct stimulation (tDCS) as neurorehabilitation in older HIV+ adults. Thirty-three HIV+ adults aged 50+ completed neurocognitive testing and were randomized to either active (n = 17) or sham (n = 16) tDCS. Both conditions received 10 1-hour sessions of SOP CRT, with either active or sham tDCS for the first 20 minutes. Participants then completed a posttest assessment. Repeated measures analysis of variance examining Time X Condition showed small-to-medium effec

PURPOSE: The impact of attention problems on academic and social functioning coupled with the large number of children failing to respond to stimulant medication or behavioral therapy makes adjunctive therapies such as cognitive training appealing for families and clinicians of children with attention difficulties or childhood attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. However, the results of cognitive training studies have failed to find far transfer effects with this population. This study examined the quantitative cognitive effects and parent-reported behavioral effects of a clinician-delive

BACKGROUND: Mild cognitive impairment (MCI) is prevalent in patients with coronary heart disease (CHD) and has been linked to alterations in memory-related brain networks. Although computerized cognitive training (CCT) may enhance cognition by promoting neuroplasticity. It remains unknown whether multidomain adaptive CCT can induce structural and functional plasticity within specific memory circuits in patients with CHD and MCI, and whether such neural changes relate to cognitive and cardiovascular outcomes.
METHODS: In this secondary analysis of a multicenter, randomized trial, CHD patients
