Spanish Translation and Cultural Adaptation of the Intensive Care Unit Delirium Playbook.

BACKGROUND: A lack of high-quality provider education hinders the delivery of standard-of-care delirium detection and prevention practices in the intensive care unit (ICU). To fill this gap, we developed and validated an e-learning ICU Delirium Playbook consisting of eight videos and a 44-question knowledge assessment quiz. Given the increasing Spanish-speaking population worldwide, we translated and cross-culturally adapted the playbook from English into Spanish. OBJECTIVE: To translate and culturally adapt the ICU Delirium Playbook into Spanish, the second most common native language worldw

Advocating for Change: Addressing Barriers To Tuberculosis Care for Immigrants and Refugees in Canada.

Tuberculosis (TB) disproportionately affects immigrants and refugees in Canada, who accounted for 80% of active TB cases in 2023 despite making up only 23% of the population. This commentary highlights the urgent need to address systemic barriers that hinder access to timely and effective TB care across the cascade, from screening and diagnosis to treatment completion. Drawing on recent policy reports and emerging evidence, this paper focuses on four main intersecting challenges: language barriers, limited cultural competency among providers, healthcare system inefficiencies, and misinformatio

Suicide Prevention Competencies Among Muslim Faith Leaders in Canada: Levels and Determinants from a Cross-Sectional Study.

Suicide prevention is a critical public health issue, yet little is known about how prepared Muslim faith leaders are to handle situations involving suicidal distress. Despite serving as key sources of support within their communities, their readiness and the factors influencing it remain understudied. This study addresses this gap by assessing the levels of Suicide Prevention Competency (SPC) among Muslim faith leaders in Canada and identifying the main determinants of these competencies. A national online survey was conducted between September and December 2025 using purposive and convenienc

Relational cultural theory: Context in therapy.

Relational cultural theory identifies relational connection as central to healing. Relational cultural theory's tenets-authenticity, zest, mutuality, and collaboration-engender healing through promoting clients' relational connection with the self, the clinician, and other people. Understanding the individual, familial, community, and sociocultural contexts in which clients are located allows for deliberately incorporating political processes into therapy. Though there are similarities and differences between CBT and relational cultural therapy, recent progress builds on past work that identif

Interpersonal Determinants of Suicide Risk Among Young Adults: A Cross-Cultural Study.

(1) Background: Understanding suicide risk across cultures requires examining both universal and culturally specific factors that inform assessment and intervention. This study explores the influence of interpersonal variables-such as interpersonal competence, perceived social support, and constructs from the Interpersonal Theory of Suicide (ITS)-on suicidal behaviour in two culturally distinct samples: young adults from Spain and Japan. (2) Methods: A total of [437] participants (Spanish sample: n = 260; Japanese sample: n = 177) completed validated measures assessing suicide risk, depression

Culturally Sensitive Care in Amputations: Recognition and Strategies.

The dignified disposal of limbs post-amputation is important to many cultural groups but is often not addressed. There is limited understanding from physicians and surgeons around the disposal process and its impact on patients, their beliefs, and their experiences within the health care system. In this overview, cultural and spiritual perspectives are reviewed and coupled with recommendations regarding the disposal and reclamation process. The current handling and management process of amputated parts is centered around hospital priorities. The beliefs and wishes of patients are not routinely

A four-step implementation framework for professionalism competency in undergraduate medical education.

Professionalism is a core competency in undergraduate medical education, yet many schools still rely on implicit teaching and inconsistent responses to professionalism lapses. Reports showing how institutions operationalize professionalism across standards, teaching, assessment, and learner support remain limited, especially in settings where cultural norms shape communication, accountability, family involvement, and conduct. We describe an evidence-guided, theory-informed implementation framework developed during a two-year institutional improvement cycle at the College of Medicine and Health

Developing professional education to support cultural humility in maternal health care: Reflecting on a co-design project with refugee and migrant women.

BACKGROUND: Culturally safe care is critical to positive maternal health experiences and outcomes. However, refugee and migrant women often experience inequities in maternal healthcare. To address these challenges, healthcare providers are increasingly using co-design. Much of this research focusses on evaluating outcomes or using traditional methods to obtain lived experience input. Comparatively, there is a paucity of research detailing how to achieve value-based co-design with refugee and migrant women. AIM: The project aimed to co-design an education resource to support the development of

Building interoperability early: international faculty perspectives on multinational military medical education in undergraduate training.

INTRODUCTION: As military operations increasingly rely on coalition partnerships, interoperability has become a core competency for medical readiness. Traditionally emphasised in postgraduate or deployment settings, earlier integration of interoperability-focused training in undergraduate medical education (UME) may better prepare physicians for coalition environments. Simulation-based education (SBE) offers an effective platform for developing shared understanding, communication, and trust within multinational teams, with multinational faculty informing best practices in programme design and

Identifying and resolving ethical challenges related to the enrollment of black individuals with chronic kidney disease in U.S. health registries and clinical research: a qualitative study.

BACKGROUND: Chronic kidney disease (CKD) disproportionately impacts Black individuals. This disparity, coupled with historical and ongoing injustices in medical research, raises significant ethical concerns that may hinder participation in health registries and clinical research, which are critical for advancing patient-centered kidney care. This study sought to identify key ethical challenges from the perspective of Black individuals with CKD to enhance their meaningful and equitable engagement. METHODS: We employed a qualitative approach guided by a pragmatist bioethical framework. We condu
