Comparative Evaluation of Sonic Vibration and Heat Preheating Techniques on the Retention and Efficacy of Flowable Composite Resin Sealants: A Quasi-experimental Study.

INTRODUCTION: Pit and fissure sealants are crucial in reducing the incidence of dental caries, particularly in the pediatric population. Despite their effectiveness, achieving optimal retention remains a challenge because of the complexity of the tooth morphology. This study evaluated the impact of two viscosity-reducing methods (heat energy and sonic vibration) on flowability, adaptability, and long-term retention of flowable composite resin sealants. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This quasi-experimental split-mouth study included 72 systemically healthy children aged 6-10 years. Teeth with shallow

Double Connective Tissue Graft to Treat Deep Coronal-Radicular Abrasion: A 19-Year Follow-Up Case Report.

INTRODUCTION: When gingival recession is combined with cervical abrasion, root coverage outcomes are less predictable due to the challenging adaptation of the connective tissue graft (CTG) to the marked root step. Removing additional tooth structure can improve soft-tissue adaptation with the downside of a possible increase in dental hypersensitivity or pulpitis. Therefore, the aim of this report was to demonstrate a surgical technique using two grafts which does not require any further modification of the root surface, in order to successfully treat recession associated with deep cervical abr

Effect of pre-heating resin composite on restoration microleakage.

Improving the adaptation of resin composites during placement is necessary to increase durability and reduce microleakage. Flowable resin liners have been introduced to improve adaptation in composite restorations. In addition, a device that lowers the viscosity of regular dental composites has been introduced (Calset, AdDent Inc, Danbury, CT, USA). This device lowers the viscosity of composites by preheating them to 54.4 degrees C, which should lead to improved adaptation. This study compared microleakage in Class II composite restorations prepared using: 1) preheated resin composite, 2) unhe

The effect of pre-warming and delayed irradiation on marginal integrity of a resin-modified glass-ionomer.

Recent studies have indicated that the acid-base reactions and polymerization of resin-modified glass-ionomers (RMGIs) compete with and inhibit each other; however, external energy can also influence the properties of RMGIs. This in vitro study evaluated the effect of pre-warming and/or delayed light irradiation on marginal integrity of RMGIs in cervical restorations. Standard Class V cavities were prepared on the buccal aspects of 60 human maxillary premolars. Each cavity was treated with a cavity conditioner for 10 seconds, rinsed, and gently air-dried. An RMGI was applied to the prepared ca

Successful Implant Rehabilitation Following Failed Root Canal Treatment Using Ridge Preservation and Delayed Implant Placement: A Case Report.

Dental implants have become a predictable treatment option for replacing teeth with an unfavorable prognosis. When extraction of a failed endodontically treated tooth is indicated, preservation of the alveolar ridge is essential to minimize post-extraction bone resorption and facilitate future implant placement. This case report describes the successful rehabilitation of a mandibular first molar following extraction, ridge preservation, delayed implant placement, and definitive prosthetic restoration using a digital workflow. A 68-year-old male patient presented with a previously endodonticall

Flapless Decoronation: A Minimally Invasive Approach.

Traumatic injuries to the permanent dentition are most common in children. In severe dentoalveolar injuries, especially avulsion and intrusion, dentoalveolar ankylosis is a common complication, leading to adverse effects on the developing alveolar bone and interfering with the eruption of the adjacent teeth. The decoronation procedure was suggested in 1984 to reduce these side effects related to ankylosis. The objective of the current publication is to describe a minimally invasive, flapless decoronation procedure aimed to minimize and simplify the surgical procedure of decoronation, and ease
