Nanogrooved Elastomeric Diaphragm Arrays for Assessment of Cardiomyocytes under Synergistic Effects of Circular Mechanical Stimuli and Electrical Conductivity to Enhance Intercellular Communication.

Источник пометил публикацию как отозванную

Cardiovascular diseases remain the leading cause of mortality, necessitating advancements in in vitro cardiac tissue engineering platforms for improved disease modeling, drug screening, and regenerative therapies. The chief challenge to recapitulating the beating behavior of cardiomyocytes is creation of the circular stress profile experienced by hollow organs in the natural heart due to filling pressure and integrated strategies for intercellular communication to promote cell-to-cell connections. We present a platform featuring addressable arrays of nanogrooved polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) dia

Size Effects of Au/Ni-Coated Polymer Particles on the Electrical Performance of Anisotropic Conductive Adhesive Films under Flexible Mechanical Conditions.

In soft electronics, anisotropic conductive adhesive films (ACFs) are the trending interconnecting approach due to their substantial softness and superior bondability to flexible substrates. However, low bonding pressure (≤1 MPa) and fine-pitch interconnections of ACFs become challenging while being extended in advanced device developments such as wafer-level packaging and three-dimensional multi-layer integrated circuit board assembly. To overcome these difficulties, we studied two types of ACFs with distinct conductive filler sizes (ACF-1: ~20 μm and ACF-2: ~5 μm). We demonstrated a low-pres

Pericardial Delivery of Sodium Alginate-Infusible Extracellular Matrix Composite Hydrogel Promotes Angiogenesis and Intercellular Electrical Conduction after Myocardial Infarction.

Injectable extracellular matrix (iECM) is a versatile biological material with beneficial properties such as good degradability, promotion of cell survival, immunomodulation, and facilitation of vascular formation. However, intravenous injection of iECM faces challenges like a short retention time in vivo and low concentration at the lesion site. To address these issues, we prepared a composite hydrogel composed of sodium alginate and iECM and administered it via intrapericardial injection, forming a structure akin to cardiac patches within the pericardium. Compared with intramyocardial inject

Electrocardiographic imaging demonstrates electrical synchrony improvement by dynamic atrioventricular delays in patients with left bundle branch block and preserved atrioventricular conduction.

AIMS: Cardiac resynchronization therapy programmed to dynamically fuse pacing with intrinsic conduction using atrioventricular (AV) timing algorithms (e.g. SyncAV) has shown promise; however, mechanistic data are lacking. This study assessed the impact of SyncAV on electrical dyssynchrony across various pacing modalities using non-invasive epicardial electrocardiographic imaging (ECGi). METHODS AND RESULTS: Twenty-five patients with left bundle-branch block (median QRS duration (QRSd) 162.7 ms) and intact AV conduction (PR interval 174.0 ms) were prospectively enrolled. ECGi was performed acu

Segregated Network Polymer Composites with High Electrical Conductivity and Well Mechanical Properties based on PVC, P(VDF-TFE), UHMWPE, and rGO.

The formation of a segregated network structure (wittingly uneven distribution of a filler) is one of the most promising strategies for the fabrication of electrically conductive polymer composites at present. However, the simultaneous achievement of high values of electrical conductivity with the retention of well mechanical properties within this approach remains a great challenge. Here, by means of X-ray photoelectron spectra (XPS), near-edge X-ray absorption fine structure (NEXAFS) spectra, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), dielectric spectroscopy, and compression engineering stress-stra

Huoxin Pill Ameliorates Atrial Fibrillation by Modulating Autonomic Nervous Balance and Electrical Conduction Heterogeneity: Insights From Systems Pharmacology and Experimental Validation.

Huoxin Pill (HXP), a traditional Chinese medicine for cardiovascular diseases, demonstrates clinically reported anti-atrial fibrillation (AF) effects, though its mechanisms remain unclear. To investigate these mechanisms, we established an acetylcholine-calcium chloride (ACh-CaCl2)-induced AF model in rats divided into control, AF, HXP (HXP-L: 3.33; HXP-M: 10; HXP-H: 30 mg/kg) and verapamil (25 mg/kg) groups. Following daily modelling, treatments were administered via gavage from Days 4 to 10. Electrocardiography (ECG) subsequently assessed AF susceptibility while echocardiography evaluated ca

Time-series analysis of urethral electrical conductance measurements in the assessment of unstable urethral pressure: results in normal patients and in those with genuine stress incontinence.

It is well established that urethral pressure variations occur in patients with or without urinary incontinence, but to what extent they contribute to a patient's symptoms remains unclear. Previous work has suggested that in stress incontinent patients, a rise in bladder neck electrical conductance (BNEC) occurs simultaneously with a fall in urethral pressure, and that this represents bladder neck opening. Six patients with genuine stress incontinence (gsi), and six normal controls underwent simultaneous urethral pressure and BNEC measurements, the results being subjected to time-series analys

Colored BN-Based Composite Film with Superior Spectrally Selective, Thermal Conductivity, and Antibacterial Properties for All-Weather Thermal Management in Electrical Devices.

Developing advanced polymer-based composite materials integrating zero-energy thermal management and aesthetic experience can achieve lightweight and compact thermal management for electrical devices. For this goal, we propose a colored spectrally selective film (SSF) combining the plate hexagonal boron nitride with waterborne polyurethane. After a facile and scalable mechanical stirring method, the resulting composite colored SSF exhibits a favorable optical performance, which maintains a thermal emittance (ε) of ∼92.6%, while possessing a high thermal conductivity of 0.834 W·m-1·K-1. Synergistic near-infrared photothermal and electrical stimulation of MgMOF/black phosphorus-reinforced conductive organohydrogels for integrated diagnosis-therapy-repair of complex wounds.

Managing complex wounds characterized by multidrug-resistant bacterial infections and impaired vascularization remains a significant clinical challenge. This study describes the development of a multifunctional conductive organohydrogel (POBMG) based on a polyacrylamide/oxidized sodium alginate (PAM/OSA) network reinforced with magnesium-based metal-organic framework/black phosphorus (MgMOF/BP) hybrids. The MgMOF/BP hybrid not only protects BP from oxidative degradation but also provides superior near-infrared (NIR) photothermal conversion (56.8 °C under 808 nm irradiation), enabling rapid era

Stem cells derived exosome laden oxygen generating hydrogel composites with good electrical conductivity for the tissue-repairing process of post-myocardial infarction.

Acute myocardial infarction (AMI) destroys heart cells by disrupting the oxygen supply. Improving oxygen delivery to the injured area may avoid cell death and regenerate the heart. We present the creation of oxygen-producing injectable bio-macromolecular hydrogels using catalase (CAT) loaded alginate (Alg) and fibrin (Fib) incorporated with the Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) derived exosomes (Exo). The composite hydrogel additionally incorporates electrical stimulating qualities from gold nanoparticles (AuNPs). In vitro experiments showed that this composite hydrogel (Exo/Hydro/AuNPs/CAT) exhib

Transplantation of vascularized cardiac microtissue from human induced pluripotent stem cells improves impaired electrical conduction in a porcine myocardial injury model.

OBJECTIVE: To demonstrate that the transplantation of human induced pluripotent stem cell (hiPSC)-derived vascularized cardiac microtissue (VCM) can improve conduction disturbances after myocardial injury (MI). METHODS: We prepared cell sheet-shaped VCM with hiPSC-derived cardiomyocytes and vascular cells using dynamic rocking culture. We induced MI via epicardial cryoablation in immunosuppressed crown minipigs (VCM and sham groups; n = 3) and transplanted the VCMs immediately after MI induction. The pigs underwent epicardial electroanatomical mapping immediately before and 1 week after MI in

ACE I/D polymorphism associated with abnormal atrial and atrioventricular conduction in lone atrial fibrillation and structural heart disease: implications for electrical remodeling.

BACKGROUND: The angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) gene contains a common polymorphism based on the insertion (I) or deletion (D) of a 287-bp intronic DNA fragment. The D allele is associated with higher ACE activity and thus higher angiotensin II levels. Angiotensin II stimulates cardiac fibrosis and conduction heterogeneity. OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to determine whether the ACE I/D polymorphism modulates cardiac electrophysiology. METHODS: Three different cohorts of patients were studied: 69 patients with paroxysmal lone atrial fibrillation (AF), 151 patients with structur

Improving the diagnosis of genuine stress incontinence in symptomatic women with negative cough stress test: the Distal Urethral Electrical Conductance test (DUEC) revisited.

This retrospective descriptive study was performed to assess the practice of using the distal urethral electrical conductance (DUEC) test to objectively demonstrate urinary incontinence in symptomatic women with a negative cough stress test on examination. One hundred women had stable bladders on cystometry (CMG). Genuine stress incontinence (GSI) was diagnosed during CMG in 45 (45%). DUEC performed prior to cystometry had revealed stress incontinence in an additional 13 with negative CMG, thereby improving the diagnosis of GSI by 13%. The test detected urge incontinence in one (1%). The DUEC

Improved Accuracy and Safety of Pedicle Screw Placement by Using a Probe with an Electrical Conductivity-Measuring Device during Severe Syndromic and Neuromuscular Scoliosis Spine Surgery.

An electrical conductivity-measuring device (ECD) has recently been developed to support pedicle screw placement. However, no evidence exists regarding its efficacy for syndromic/neuromuscular scoliosis with extremely difficult screwing. We retrospectively reviewed 2010-2016 medical records of 21 consecutive syndromic/neuromuscular scoliosis patients undergoing free-hand segmental fixation surgery at our institution and compared the pedicle screw insertion accuracy and safety between 10 with a conventional non-ECD probe (2010-2013) and 11 with an ECD probe (2014-2016). We analyzed preoperative

Magnetic field-oriented conductive decellularized extracellular matrix hydrogel synergizes with electrical stimulation to promote spinal cord injury repair and electrophysiological function restoration.

Spinal cord injury (SCI) results in electrophysiological and behavioral dysfunction. Electrical stimulation (ES) is considered to be an effective treatment for mild SCI; however, ES is not applicable to severe SCI due to the disruption of electrical conduction caused by tissue defects. Therefore, the use of conductive materials to fill the defects and restore electrical conduction in the spinal cord is a promising therapeutic strategy. In this study, we used ultrasound to composite conductive reduced graphene oxide (rGO) and magnetic Fe3O4 nanoparticles and encapsulated them into gelatin metha

Conductive Bio-Harvesting Tonic (CBT) with an Anti-Dandruff Effect Enhances Hair Growth by Utilizing Naturally Generated Electric Energy during Human Activities.

Alopecia, while not life-threatening, significantly impacts mental health, identity, and self-esteem of those afflicted. Current pharmacological and surgical treatments often have side effects and are limited in their ability to regenerate hair follicles (HF). Therefore, effective solutions for alopecia remain elusive. We developed an innovative hair tonic capable of stimulating HF regeneration by harnessing abandoned electric energy generated during human activities, such as the frictional electric field from walking and the electric fields from electronic devices. We devised a convenient, no

Fragmented QRS as a Marker of Electrical Dyssynchrony to Predict Inter-Ventricular Conduction Defect by Subsequent Echocardiographic Assessment in Symptomatic Patients of Non-Ischemic Dilated Cardiomyopathy.

BACKGROUND: Left ventricular (LV) dyssynchrony frequently occurs in patients with heart failure (HF). QRS ≥ 120 ms is a surrogate marker of electrical dyssynchrony, which occurs in only 30% of HF patients. In contrary, in those with normal QRS (nQRS) duration, LV dyssynchrony has been reported in 20-50%. This study was carried out to investigate the role of fragmented QRS (fQRS) on the surface electrocardiography (ECG) as a marker of electrical dyssynchrony to predict the presence of significant intraventricular dyssynchrony (IVD) by subsequent echocardiographic assessment.
