Sturge-Weber syndrome (SWS) is a sporadic disorder and is frequent among the neurocutaneous syndromes specifically with vascular predominance. This syndrome consists of constellation of clinical features like facial nevus, seizures, hemiparesis, intracranial calcifications, and mental retardation. It is characterized by focal port-wine stain, ocular abnormalities (glaucoma), and choroidal hemangioma and leptomeningeal angioma most often involving occipital and parietal lobes. The present paper reports three cases of SWS with oral manifestations and periodontal management, which included thorou

The authors report the presentation and management of a 13-year-old girl with Schimmelpenning syndrome, a rare neurocutaneous syndrome; this patient suffered hemorrhage of a spinal arteriovenous malformation. This is the first case of a spinal arteriovenous malformation reported in association with Schimmelpenning syndrome. Neurosurgeons should be aware of this rare phacomatosis as well as of the various neurological disorders associated with this diagnosis. The threshold for imaging the neuraxis in these patients should be low.

PHACE syndrome is a rare neurocutaneous disorder characterized by posterior fossa malformations, hemangiomas, arterial anomalies, cardiac defects, and abnormalities of the eye. Thyroid disorders associated with PHACE syndrome have been described, although there are limited reports of this rare occurrence. We report a case of PHACE syndrome with congenital hypothyroidism in an infant, for which absent thyroid gland was diagnosed at magnetic resonance imaging.

A case is reported of a recently described neurocutaneous syndrome, manifested by a noncommunicating right lateral ventricular cyst, a left-sided lipoma of the scalp with alopecia, right-sided multiple truncal lipomas, right-sided ocular manifestations, left leg hypertrophy, and seizures. The findings in cases of encephalocraniocutaneous lipomatosis are described to demonstrate the spectrum of this syndrome.

AIMS: Hemimegalencephaly (HME) is a rare congenital malformation of cortical development, usually associated with developmental delay and severe epilepsy. This condition has rarely been reported in adults. The aim of this study was to examine and compare neurological findings in adult patients with HME.
METHOD: We retrospectively examined adult patients with HME by evaluating the presence of neurocutaneous disorders, current cognitive development, seizure control, and documentation of therapies for seizure management and outcomes.
RESULTS: Five patients were included in the study (three male

Phakomatosis pigmentovascularis (PPV) is a syndrome characterized by the association of a vascular nevus with a congenital pigmented lesion (epidermal nevus, nevus spilus, and dermal melanocytosis). There are different types of PPV according to the pigmentary nevus associated with the vascular malformation. Patients may present only the cutaneous condition or have systemic manifestations, among them, trauma, neurological and ophthalmological disorders. We report the case of a 1-year-old girl who had congenital glaucoma. On examination, we identified facial paralysis, bilateral ocular melanosis

Neurocutaneous syndromes represent a clinically and genetically heterogeneous group of disorders, with tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC), von Hippel-Lindau syndrome (VHL), and ataxia-telangiectasia (A-T) exemplifying some of the most complex entities within this category. These syndromes have traditionally been considered monogenic disorders, caused by germline mutations in tumor suppressor or regulatory genes. However, they exhibit a striking degree of phenotypic variability and divergent clinical trajectories that cannot be fully explained by their underlying genetic alterations alone. Increa

Schimmelpenning-Feuerstein-Mims syndrome (SFM) is a congenital neurocutaneous disorder characterized by the association of nevus sebaceous with extracutaneous abnormalities. We report a new case of Schimmelpenning-Feuerstein-Mims with aortic coarctation and drug-resistant West syndrome. This case emphasizes the importance of exploring and monitoring patients with nevus sebaceous in order to diagnose associated anomalies.

A 2 1/2 year old mentally retarded Dutch boy, suffering from epilepsy, hydrocefalus, generalised hypotonia, degenerative signs of the eyes and teeth and characteristic pigment disturbances of the skin is described. The complete picture fits in the syndrome of Ito's hypomelanosis, also called incontinentia pigmenti achromians. This is a neurocutaneous syndrome or an ectodermal dysplasia.

Phakomatoses are a heterogenous group of congenital neurocutaneous syndromes that are associated with a wide range of ocular and systemic presentations. The ocular conditions are important to consider as they may be asymptomatic early on, but progress to irreversible vision loss. Due to the variability of disease presentation, timely diagnosis is crucial to preserve visual outcomes. This article provides a comprehensive review of literature on nine major phakomatoses, including Neurofibromatosis type 1, Neurofibromatosis type 2, Tuberous Sclerosis complex, Sturge Weber syndrome, Von Hippel-Lin

The neurocutaneous syndrome of infantile B12 deficiency, more commonly called the infantile tremor syndrome, typically is characterized by developmental delay, sparse hair, hyperpigmentation, and tremors. When treated with injectable B12, the affected babies can develop a peculiar transient "batwing dystonia." This dystonia is possibly a nutritional recovery movement disorder due to basal ganglia dysfunction.

PURPOSE: Encephalocraniocutaneous lipomatosis is a congenital neurocutaneous syndrome characterized by lipomatous craniofacial hamartomas. The most common ocular manifestation is epibulbar choristoma, but many additional eye anomalies may be present.
METHODS: To our knowledge, this is the first reported case with bilateral aniridia. We report a case of a boy affected by this syndrome and review the literature.
CONCLUSION: Regarding this case, we suggest adding aniridia to the possible ocular anomalies in this syndrome.

INTRODUCTION: Peripheral nerve sheath tumors are the most common tumor of the peripheral nerves. In general, surgery has a favorable outcome and is the treatment of choice. However, postoperative neurologic deficits are not uncommon, and predictors of outcome are poorly defined.
OBJECTIVE: To evaluate clinical outcomes after surgical treatment of benign peripheral nerve sheath tumors and identify outcome predictors that may affect preoperative decision making and improve surgical outcomes.
METHOD: In this single center retrospective study, all patients surgically treated for a benign periphe

BACKGROUND: Neurocutaneous melanosis (NCM) is a rare neurocutaneous syndrome characterized by the presence of multiple congenital melanocytic nevi (CMN) and the proliferation of melanocytes in the central nervous system, usually involving the leptomeninges. Chronic partial epilepsy as a sole manifestation is rare in NCM.
CASE REPORT: A 32-year-old man suffering from chronic partial epilepsy presented with multiple CMN on his trunk and scalp. Brain MRI demonstrated a focal lesion in the right amygdala that was consistent with interictal epileptiform discharges in the right temporal region on e

Incontinentia Pigmenti (IP) is a neurocutaneous syndrome, with malformations of cortical development and neurodevelopmental delay in some patients. Neonates with IP may develop acute encephalopathy with multifocal ischemic brain lesions with a speckled pattern on diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). We observed a similar MRI pattern in 4 female patients with IP who presented with childhood acute encephalopathy syndromes. These patients, aged 9 days to 13 years old, had acute neonatal encephalitis, Influenza A virus related acute necrotizing encephalopathy (ANE) of childhood, In
