A 76-year-old man presented to the emergency room with abdominal pain and fatigue. The patient had a history of gastrointestinal bleeding. An abdominal computed tomographic scan showed collections of free air in the abdomen with obstruction of the distal small intestine and multiple masses in the liver. Laparotomy revealed a widespread malignant neoplasm in the abdomen, with multiple tumor nodules in the ileal wall, mesentery, and liver. The ileal wall was perforated within the area of one of the tumors. Pathologic examination of the lesion showed a neoplasm composed of solid sheets of spindle

BACKGROUND: The optimal therapy for mucinous neoplasms of the pancreas is surgical resection because these tumours are either premalignant (cystadenoma) or malignant.
CASE OUTLINE: A 44-year-old previously fit woman presented with sudden onset of epigastric pain. Clinical and laboratory findings were consistent with acute pancreatitis. Abdominal ultrasound scan demonstrated a mature 6-cm cyst in the tail of pancreas and no findings suggestive of cholelithiasis. These findings were confirmed by a CT scan, which also demonstrated splenic infarction and evidence of recent haemorrhage into the cy

Mast cell sarcoma is a rare disease. We report an unusual case of this neoplasm arising in the ascending colon of a 32-year-old Japanese woman who presented with abdominal pain. An ulcerating mass in the colon was resected, along with enlarged mesenteric lymph nodes. Two years after surgery, the neoplasm recurred as left cervical lymphadenopathy and an intra-abdominal mass. Despite predonine and radiation therapy, the disease progressed, and the patient died. The tumor cells had abundant fine granular or clear cytoplasm, and oval, lobulated, or indented nuclei. Numerous mature eosinophils were

KEY CLINICAL MESSAGE: Neuroendocrine tumors, rare and slow-growing, primarily affect the gastrointestinal tract, causing symptoms due to hormone secretion or mass effect. This case image described postprandial abdominal pain as an atypical initial presentation of abdominal neuroendocrine tumor recurrence in a middle-aged male.
ABSTRACT: Neuroendocrine tumors are a group of rare, slow-growing neoplasms, most commonly affecting the gastrointestinal tract. Clinical presentations include symptoms related to the mass or hypersecretion of hormones, such as flushing, diarrhea, or bronchoconstriction

Intussusception in adults is a challenging diagnosis that often requires a high degree of suspicion. In adults presenting with symptoms, almost 90% have underlying neoplasms. Most frequently, the presentation will include nonspecific abdominal pain, vomiting, and mucoid hematochezia. In this case, we present a 39-year-old female with a rare presentation of chronic, recurrent right upper quadrant abdominal pain over a 5-month interval. The misleading presentation with which the patient presented led to a delay in diagnosis and treatment of colon malignancy and serves to advocate for intussuscep

An 11-year-old male German Shepherd dog presented for inappetence and weight loss. Physical examination and initial bloodwork revealed palpable abdominal masses, mild non-regenerative anemia, and thrombocytopenia. Survey radiography and abdominal ultrasonography confirmed the presence of bilateral abdominal masses and lymphadenopathy. Contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CT) was performed in order to further investigate the origin of the intraabdominal masses, confirming two enlarged cryptorchid testes, one of which had an associated CT "whirl sign." Histopathology of the testes and lymph no

Tuberculosis remains prevalent in developing countries and has recently re-emerged in the Western world. Intra-abdominal tuberculosis can mimic a variety of other abdominal disorders, and here we describe a patient with solitary tuberculous mesenteric lymphadenopathy mimicking duodenal gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST). A 22-year-old woman complained of epigastric discomfort and was presumed to have a duodenal GIST after an endoscopic examination and abdominal CT scan. However, exploratory laparotomy revealed an enlarged node penetrating the duodenal bulb, which was diagnosed histopatholog

Small bowel tumors (SBT) are rare neoplasms and represent less than 10% of all gastrointestinal tumors. The majority of them are benign and discovered at the time of autopsy. However of those who present symptoms the majority belong to the group of malignant tumors and require of treatment. The most common histological variety are the adenocarcinoma and the carcinoid tumors. Abdominal pain, intestinal obstruction or gastrointestinal bleeding are the most common clinical complaints. Endoscopy or contrast X-ray examination are the most common forms of diagnosis and surgery remain the best way of

Paragangliomas are rare neoplasms that arise from the chromaffin cells of the autonomic nervous system. Although paragangliomas can occur anywhere paraganglia are present, they tend to occur in the head, neck, and retroperitoneum. Rarely, paragangliomas can occur in the peripancreatic area and present as a pancreatic mass, creating a diagnostic challenge for the clinician, radiologist, and pathologist. Here, we present a case of a 70-year-old woman with history of breast carcinoma who presented with chronic constipation, early satiety, and an abdominal mass. Her first abdominal CT described a

Cystic pancreatic neuroendocrine tumours (cPNETs) are an uncommon diagnosis, representing less than 10% of all cystic neoplasms. They tend to affect patients aged between 30 and 60 years, with no differences between the sexes. Herein we present the case of a woman aged 75 years with a history of AHT, DM2 and CKF. Given symptoms of abdominal pain, toxic syndrome and altered hepatic analyses, the patient underwent an abdominal CT, which showed a solid mass with neoproliferative appearance in the pancreatic tail, along with a small, non-specific portacaval adenopathy. Consequently, an echo-endosc

A 20-year-old woman with Gardner syndrome and intra-abdominal desmoid tumors presented with increasing abdominal pain. CT demonstrated a new area of central hypodensity in a presumed desmoid tumor, compressing the left ureter. Findings were suspicious for abscess or fistula to the ureter. Subsequent 99mTc-MAG3 renogram demonstrated persistent extraureteral radiotracer activity in the region of the tumor, confirming a desmoid tumor-ureteral fistula. Desmoid tumors are benign but locally aggressive fibrous neoplasms that can be sporadic or associated with familial adenomatous polyposis syndromes

Teratomas are a type of germ-cell tumour which may contain embryological tissues from more than one germ-cell layer, usually occurring in the gonads. Primary retroperitoneal teratomas account for 1-11% of retroperitoneal neoplasms and are most commonly found in neonates and young adults. In the clinical literature, retroperitoneal mature cystic teratoma arising from an intra-abdominal undescended testis in adult males has been very rarely reported. We report a case of surgically proven retroperitoneal mature cystic teratoma arising from an intra-abdominal undescended testis in an adult male by

The adenocarcinoid tumor is a potentially malignant neoplasm usually arising in the appendix. We describe a 55-year-old woman with a ureteroileal conduit in place for 12 years who suffered obstruction of the ileal segment of the conduit, with recurrent pyelonephritis and abdominal pain. Pathological examination of a segmentally resected portion of the conduit revealed a submucosal proliferation of nests of argentaffin/argyrophil cells and large, mucin-distended goblet cells. The patient showed no evidence of metastasis and has done well to date following excision. A discussion of neoplasms ari

OBJECTIVE: We present a solitary fibrous tumor (SFT) of the abdominal wall treated laparoscopically.
METHOD: We will discuss the clinicopathologic characteristics and will present a review of the literature.
RESULTS: SFTs are rare neoplasms of mesenchymal origin. Its location in the abdominal wall is extremely rare. To the best of our knowledge, only 20 cases have currently been described in the literature.
CONCLUSIONS: Complete surgical resection is the main therapy for all cases. A laparoscopic approach is safe. Clinical-radiological follow-up must be carried out due to its uncertain beha

Intussusception is a common emergency in patients age of 3 months to 5 years. In adults, the diagnosis is infrequent but must be considered in the clinical setting of abdominal pain and vomiting. We present a case of a 61-year-old woman presenting with epigastric abdominal pain and vomiting, diagnosed with intussusception secondary to gastrointestinal stromal tumor. Serial bedside ultrasound examinations uncovered the diagnosis of intussusception, confirmed by computed tomographic scan during a paroxysm of pain. Intussusception has a much higher predilection for neoplasms in adults, with a hig

Lipoma and angiolipoma are common benign neoplasms that occur in the subcutaneous tissue and rarely in the gastrointestinal tract. These tumors are usually asymptomatic but may present with abdominal pain, bleeding and obstruction. We present a 53-years-old woman with abdominal discomfort for several weeks accompanied with bloody diarrhea and recurrent vomiting. Ileo-ileal invagination was diagnosed by computed tomography scan. Laparotomy revealed five intraluminal masses that caused intussusception. Histopathological study showed that one was angiolipoma and other lesions were lipoma. We have

An appendiceal neurofibroma (ANF) is a rare neoplasm associated with neurofibromatosis type 1(NF-1), an inheritable neurocutaneous disorder that involves multiple systems including the intraabdominal organs. Appendiceal diverticulitis occasionally ruptures in the absence of intense abdominal pain, which can lead to serious consequences. Recent reports highlight the association between appendiceal diverticulum and appendiceal neoplasms; however, there is still little information on the association between appendiceal diverticulitis and ANF in NF-1. A 51-year-old Japanese male with NF-1 was refe

BACKGROUND: Solid pseudopapillary neoplasm of the pancreas is an uncommon but distinctive pancreatic neoplasm with low metastatic potential [1]. Therefore, whenever feasible, an organ-preserving operation should be performed. As previously reported, women with solid pseudopapillary neoplasm of the pancreas may be best treated by more conservative procedures [2]. Recently, laparoscopic pancreatic resections became more common and are being performed in highly specialized centers. There are only six cases of laparoscopic resection for solid pseudopapillary neoplasm of pancreas published in the E
