Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) Tape as a Screw-Access Sealing Material in Implant-Supported Crowns.

A clear consensus is lacking in the literature regarding the optimal material for sealing the screw‑access channel in implant‑supported restorations. Commonly used materials, including cotton pellets, polyvinyl siloxane, and gutta‑percha, are selected largely based on clinician preference rather than evidence‑based guidelines. Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) tape has emerged as a practical alternative, offering several advantages for sealing the screw‑access channel in screw‑retained implant crowns. PTFE is inexpensive, readily adaptable, easy to manipulate, and maintains dimensional stability

Advantages and feasibility of prefabricated PEEK crowns for aesthetic restoration in primary teeth.

Objectives The main purpose of this study is to evaluate the efficacy of polyetheretherketone (PEEK) as a material for prefabricated crown restorations in pediatric dentistry, particularly for restoring primary tooth structure defects. Materials and methods This study analyzed the effects of three surface treatment modalities on PEEK's surface morphology, wettability (as measured by contact angle), and shear bond strength. These treatments included alumina (Al2O3) sandblasting alone, and in conjunction with a 98% sulfuric acid pretreatment. Subsequently, an evaluation was conducted to assess t

Strength and Surface Characteristics of 3D-Printed Resin Crowns for the Primary Molars.

Some resin polymers available for three-dimensional (3D) printing are slightly elastic, which may be advantageous when used for full crown coverage of the primary teeth. This study was performed to evaluate the mechanical properties of two types of 3D-printed resin crowns in terms of strength and surface characteristics. Polymer resins used for temporary crowns (TCs) and temporary flexible dentures (TFDs) were tested. Digitally designed crowns with different thicknesses (0.4 and 0.6 mm) were 3D-printed. Milled zirconia crowns were used as the control. The static and dynamic fracture loads of t

Prosthesis on prosthesis: three-fourth metal crowns--a novel approach for metallic occlusion.

Single complete denture is a common occurrence which needs special attention in treatment. Denture reinforcement with metallic occlusion is recommended to prevent fracture of denture and wearing of artificial teeth. Various methods have been reported in the literature for metallic occlusion, which either compromise on aesthetics of the premolar teeth or need repeated procedures. This case reports the use of three-fourths metal crowns to achieve metallic occlusions in single complete denture.

Allergic palmoplantar pustulosis caused by cobalt in cast dental crowns: a case report.

Cobalt chrome alloy is a common material in prosthodontic restorations; however, instances of palmoplantar pustulosis owing to cobalt allergy are rare. Here, we report an unusual case of palmoplantar pustulosis in the hands and feet of a 58-year-old male patient caused by a cobalt allergy. The patient developed palmoplantar pustulosis characterized by redness, pustules, vesicles, and scaly erythema on his hands and feet 1 month after obtaining cobalt chromium alloy cast crowns on his molar teeth. The symptoms persisted for 1 year. He underwent standard patch testing, which showed a strong posi

Survival of resin-bonded porcelain veneer crowns placed with and without metal reinforcement.

OBJECTIVES: The purpose of this retrospective case study of dental records was to compare the long-term failure rates and modes for resin-bonded sintered feldspathic porcelain veneer crowns (RBPVCs) either containing or without metal substructure reinforcement. METHODS: Two prosthodontists placed 62 RBPVCs fabricated with, and 167 without, metal reinforcement in 143 older adolescent and adult patients treated in a private practice. Clinical judgement determined the type of crown design placed. Preparation margins were generally finished on enamel, and all crowns occluded with opposing teeth.

[Development of a periodontium-approximated specimen holder for attrition studies of telescopic crowns].

To enable attritional studies on telescopic crowns, a specimen holder has been constructed that is intended to simulate, in zero approximation, the biomechanical properties of abutments bearing telescopic crowns. The specimen holder consists essentially of a system with two metal "concertinas" with different elasticity constants reflecting the different biomechanical parameters for periodontium and bone. The biomechanical processes in the periodontium are too complex to be simulated accurately in vitro. Nevertheless, the specimen holder described here enables the forces acting during insertion
