Artificial Neural Networks, and Evolutionary Algorithms as a systems biology approach to a data-base on fetal growth restriction.

One of the specific aims of systems biology is to model and discover properties of cells, tissues and organisms functioning. A systems biology approach was undertaken to investigate possibly the entire system of intra-uterine growth we had available, to assess the variables of interest, discriminate those which were effectively related with appropriate or restricted intrauterine growth, and achieve an understanding of the systems in these two conditions. The Artificial Adaptive Systems, which include Artificial Neural Networks and Evolutionary Algorithms lead us to the first analyses. These an

Families of restriction enzymes: an analysis prompted by molecular and genetic data for type ID restriction and modification systems.

Current genetic and molecular evidence places all the known type I restriction and modification systems of Escherichia coli and Salmonella enterica into one of four discrete families: type IA, IB, IC or ID. StySBLI is the founder member of the ID family. Similarities of coding sequences have identified restriction systems in E.coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae as probable members of the type ID family. We present complementation tests that confirm the allocation of EcoR9I and KpnAI to the ID family. An alignment of the amino acid sequences of the HsdS subunits of StySBLI and EcoR9I identify two v

The CT colonography radiology and data system: history, updates, and future directions.

Computed tomography colonography, also known as virtual colonoscopy, is a minimally invasive imaging technique developed in the early 1990s to evaluate the colon for polyps, cancer, and other abnormalities. Advances in multidetector computed tomography, bowel preparation protocols, and three-dimensional reconstruction rapidly improved diagnostic performance. Landmark trials demonstrating sensitivity for clinically significant adenomas comparable to optical colonoscopy led to its acceptance as a colorectal cancer screening option. Standardized reporting further accelerated clinical uptake. The

Use of the 'historical' National Health Data System to study infectious diseases.

INTRODUCTION: Identifying infectious diseases through French National Health Data System (SNDS), a medico-administrative database, presents specific challenges due to their intrinsic characteristics, such as curability or highly variable prevalence. This study assesses the capacity of the SNDS to accurately identify pathologies and to ensure follow-up of affected individuals. METHODS: The study focuses on "Certain infectious and parasitic diseases" (ICD-10 Chapters A and B). Eligible conditions were required to correspond to a three-character ICD-10 sub-chapter accounting for fewer than 10,00

Inlexzo (gemcitabine intravesical system): promising data but key questions remain.

The FDA approval of Inlexzo (gemcitabine intravesical system, formerly TAR-200) for BCG-refractory non-muscle invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC) with carcinoma in situ is a milestone achievement in bladder-sparing therapy. Outcomes from the SunRISe-1 trial showed an outstanding 3-month complete response rate of 82%, and sustainability in more than half of responders at 12 months. Yet enthusiasm must be balanced with significant cautions: lack of comparator arm, immature long-term survival data, and practical issues with indwelling intravesical delivery, risk of infection, and access in low-resour

Bladder Cancer and Vesical Imaging-Reporting and Data System: An Updated Review.

Bladder cancer is a prevalent malignancy with a significant societal burden. Treatment strategies and prognosis are largely determined by the degree of local tumor invasion into the bladder wall. The Vesical Imaging-Reporting and Data System (VI-RADS) is a standardized, MR imaging-based scoring system specifically designed to assess muscular invasion in bladder cancer. VI-RADS effectively differentiates between nonmuscle invasive bladder cancer and muscle-invasive bladder cancer. By providing an accurate and non-invasive evaluation of tumor depth, location, and stage, VI-RADS facilitates effec
