UNLABELLED: In the context of the reform of modern medicine, endocrine pathology is encountered not only by pediatric endocrinologists, but also by doctors of other specialties, primarily primary care doctors - pediatricians and family doctors. Currently, there is a tendency to increase the prevalence of endocrine pathologists in all age groups of the children's population of Ukraine.
PURPOSE OF THE STUDY: To assess the frequency of detection of the most common endocrine diseases in children by primary care doctors and the timeliness of referral to a pediatric endocrinologist.

BACKGROUND: The Mexican Society of Pediatric Endocrinology presents recommendations for the diagnosis and treatment of precocious puberty (PP), a condition defined as the development of sexual characteristics due to an increase in pituitary gonadotropin secretion before 8 or 9 years of age in girls and boys, respectively.
METHODS: Three systematic reviews were conducted: controlled clinical trials on interventions for PP treatment, diagnostic tests, and observational studies on the long-term effects of PP. The quality evaluation and data extraction from the studies were conducted by two indep

INTRODUCTION: Fine-needle aspiration biopsy (FNAB) is considered the reference diagnostic procedure for thyroid nodules.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Routine performance of thyroid ultrasound and ultrasound-guided FNAB by endocrinologists allows a more efficient approach in the setting of a high-resolution practice, thus reducing costs and the time elapsed until diagnosis.
RESULTS: We present our initial results of this procedure 2 years after its introduction, with a total of 286 biopsies performed. After a progressive learning curve over time and according to the endocrinologists' previous exper

In this review, we discuss pituitary adenomas (PA), which account for 10-25% of the intracranial tumours. Despite their benign nature, PA often show invasive growth. Pressure on neighbouring structures may cause hypopituitarism or vision field impairment. For PA, except prolactinomas, surgical treatment is first choice. The primary surgical technique is transsphenoidal surgery. Pituitary function, vision and post-operative magnetic resonance imaging scan is evaluated in a multidisciplinary team of neurosurgeons and endocrinologist 6-8 weeks post-operatively. Follow-up and treatment of pituitar

Endocrinologists may be challenged not only by the great diversity of rare heritable metabolic bone diseases, but also by an unusual array of genetically transmitted skeletal dysplasias. The striking impact that many such skeletal dysplasias have on bone leads physicians naturally to question whether there is a metabolic component that might respond to mineral or hormonal therapy. Indeed, overt derangements in mineral or hormonal therapy. Indeed, overt derangements in mineral homeostasis occur, and a few do respond to medical treatment. Accordingly, some skeletal dysplasias do "bridge the gap"

The most common form of congenital adrenal hyperplasia is 21-hydroxylase deficiency (21OHD). Women with 21OHD have reduced fertility because of excessive production of adrenal androgen and progesterone, which can inhibit folliculogenesis, disturb the normal gonadotropin secretion pattern and development of the endometrium, and affect endometrial receptivity. Here, we report on an infertile woman with 21OHD who initially showed normal progesterone levels and spontaneous ovulation with the treatment by an endocrinologist. However, in vitro fertilization and embryo transfer repeatedly failed beca

History A 32-year-old woman presented to an ophthalmologist for bilateral blurry vision. She underwent MRI of the brain and orbits, which showed a focal abnormality within the pituitary gland. The patient was referred to an endocrinologist for further evaluation. Review of systems and physical examination by the endocrinologist revealed no symptoms or signs of endocrine dysfunction. Anterior pituitary hormone levels, including growth hormone, prolactin, thyroid stimulating hormone, follicular stimulating hormone, luteinizing hormone, and adrenocorticotropic hormone, were normal. Dynamic contra

OBJECTIVE: To determine whether 1990 guidelines established by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) for the optimal management (surgical versus nonsurgical) of patients with asymptomatic primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT) are known and followed by endocrinologists.
METHODS: We surveyed endocrinologists in the United States who were randomly selected in 1998 from two endocrine societies. Endocrinologists were asked about management of asymptomatic patients with PHPT, awareness of NIH recommendations, practice demographics, and annual PHPT case volume. We classified endocrinologists into eit

PURPOSE: The guidelines for management of prolactinomas during pregnancy are mostly based on retrospective evidence or expert opinion. We conducted a survey to assess the current trends in management of prolactinomas during pregnancy.
METHODS: A case-based electronic questionnaire was sent in January 2011 to all practicing endocrinologists, in four Canadian provinces: Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and British Columbia with three cases of varying severity; ranging from a microprolactinomas to a large macroprolactinomas compressing the optic chiasm.
RESULT: There was a consi

Members of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario Endocrinology and Metabolism Peer Review Network have been involved in a quality improvement project to help standardize the peer assessment of physicians practicing in endocrinology and metabolism. This has included developing state-of-the-art summaries of common endocrine problems by Canadian experts in endocrinology and metabolism. These tools have been developed in response to the educational needs, as identified by peer reviewers, of practicing endocrinologists in Ontario. These pedagogical tools aim not only to standardize the

Achondroplasia is the most common disproportionate short-stature skeletal dysplasia. Features associated with achondroplasia are rhizomelia, macrocephaly, midface hypoplasia, and typical cognition. Potential medical complications include foramen magnum stenosis, hydrocephalus, middle ear dysfunction, obstructive and central sleep apnea, spinal stenosis, and genu varum. Recently, vosoritide, a C-type natriuretic peptide analogue, was approved by the Food and Drug Administration with the primary indication of increasing linear growth in all children with achondroplasia and open growth plates. Pituitary dysfunction is now well recognised after traumatic brain injury (TBI) in adults; however, little except anecdotal evidence is known about this potential complication in childhood and adolescence. Histopathological evidence exists for both hypothalamic and pituitary damage, but few data specific to children have been published. We review the available paediatric data, which shows that after both mild and severe TBI, hypopituitarism may occur, with GH and gonadotrophin deficiencies appearing to be most common. Precocious puberty has also been documented. Road-traffic accidents, falls,

OBJECTIVES: Abnormalities in glucose metabolism detected by oral glucose tolerance test occur frequently in people with cystic fibrosis (CF) and can have clinical implications. Cystic fibrosis related diabetes (CFRD) guidelines don't address management of dysglycemia in people with CF without diabetes.
METHODS: We developed a 34-question survey to query pre-CFRD management practices among US based endocrinologists. Respondents were current or former participants in the EnVision-CF Program. We analyzed responses quantitatively and qualitatively. Data are presented descriptively.

PURPOSE: Prolactinomas are the commonest pituitary adenoma encountered in clinical practice, yet many aspects of their assessment and management remain variable. The 2023 Pituitary Society Consensus Statement on the diagnosis and management of prolactin-secreting pituitary adenomas provided important contemporary guidance, but the extent to which current practice aligns with these recommendations remains unclear. We aimed to define international multidisciplinary perspectives on resource availability and clinical decision-making in prolactinoma care.
METHODS: We conducted an international cro

INTRODUCTION: Turner syndrome (TS) is associated with primary ovarian insufficiency (POI) and most adolescents and young adults (AYA) with TS require treatment with hormone replacement therapy (HRT). International consensus guidelines are unclear on the optimal formulation and dosing for HRT after pubertal induction. This study assessed current HRT practice patterns of endocrinologists and gynecologists in North America.
METHODS: Email listserv members of the North American Society for Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology (NASPAG) and the Pediatric Endocrine Society (PES) were invited to compl

Context: Continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) provides clearer readings of blood glucose levels than traditional finger-stick glucose tests and is associated with improved diabetes outcomes such as reduced HbA1c. CGM can inform insulin dosing and diet decisions, and alert patients to hypoglycemia. A lack of endocrinologists in the majority of U.S. counties, particularly rural areas, and long wait times in many endocrinologists' offices create disparities in CGM access for patients with diabetes. Expanding use of CGM in primary care can improve care and patient diabetes outcomes. Objective: Unde
