BACKGROUND: Asian gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men (GBMSM) are overrepresented in new HIV diagnoses in Australia. Social engagement with other GBMSM has been associated with HIV testing and pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) uptake. Asian GBMSM may be socially disconnected from LGBTQ+ people, which may increase their HIV risk. This analysis assessed the contribution of social connection on HIV risk among Asian GBMSM.
METHODS: Using an online cross-sectional survey of Asian GBMSM in Australia, we measured condomless anal intercourse (CLAI) in the last 6months without PrEP or an

Adolescent violence, including sexual violence, homophobic name-calling, and teen dating violence, are public health problems that cause harm to many adolescents in the United States. Although research on the perpetration of these forms of adolescent violence has increased in recent years, little is known about perpetration rates across gender, race/ethnicity, and sexual orientation. To address this gap, the current study descriptively examined perpetration rates between and across different identities, including self-identified race/ethnicity, sexual identity, and gender identity. In Fall 201

INTRODUCTION: HIV is the second leading cause of death among young people globally, and adolescents are the only group where HIV mortality is not declining. Middle East and North Africa (MENA) is one of few regions seeing rapid increase of HIV infections (31.0%) since 2001. MENA youth are at particular risk of HIV due to dearth of research and challenges in accessing services.
OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this scoping review is to establish the epidemiological HIV risk factors and underlying risk context for youth residing in or originating from the MENA region.

Treatment counselors' attitudes about lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgendered (LGBT) clients can have important effects on these client's recovery. There is a common, but unexamined, perception that LGBT people are more accepted in urban areas (and thus urban treatment programs) and that urban counselors have greater knowledge of the needs of the LGBT community. This study examined the attitudes and knowledge of treatment counselors from two geographic regions: urban Chicago (n = 109) and rural Iowa (n = 242) in 2000. The instrument assessed demographic characteristics, knowledge, and experi

Individuals within the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer (LGBTQ) community who are diagnosed with cancer experience inequitable treatment in healthcare systems worldwide, resulting in dissatisfaction, communication challenges with healthcare providers, and a deep sense of disappointment. Stigma, discrimination, and perceived homophobia further heighten the risk of psychological and attitudinal disorders, including depression and suicidal tendencies, among LGBTQ cancer patients. To comprehensively assess the discrimination faced by LGBTQ cancer patients and gain deeper insights into

OBJECTIVE: To understand the social representations of HIV and their repercussions for the healthcare among recently diagnosed youth.
METHODS: This qualitative research was conducted within PrEP15-19, a study that analyzed the effectiveness of HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis in adolescents aged 15 to 19 years. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with nine participants, of whom eight identified themselves as gay men and one as travesti. All were diagnosed with HIV as this study was conducted in São Paulo and Salvador from 2019 to 2020. The interview guide covered aspects of HIV prevention a

Australia has not seen a Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) epidemic among young people. However, early research in the Australian context had indicated that the degree of unprotected sexual activity, partner change, and STI infection in this cohort would fuel a young people's epidemic if HIV ever reached a tipping point in the country. The difficulty of reaching young people outside school for HIV prevention has been no more successfully addressed in Australia than elsewhere. Therefore, the investment of Australian HIV prevention funds for youth has had an emphasis on school-based programs. T

BACKGROUND: Although stigmatization has long been recognized as a major obstacle to HIV prevention. The lack of a valid and reliable measurement tool for stigmatization is a major gap in the research. This study aimed to: 1) develop a scale of stigmatizing attitudes towards people living with HIV (SAT-PLWHA-S) and 2) demonstrate its reliability and validity.
METHODS: French and English-speaking experts (n = 21) from different professional communities (academics, practitioners) assessed the clarity and relevance of the proposed items. The psychometric properties of the SAT-PLWHA-S were assesse

Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) remains an epidemic disproportionately affecting Black sexual minority men (BSMM). Prince George's County, Maryland, a majority-Black county, bears approximately three times the national prevalence and incidence of diagnosed HIV cases. Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) is extraordinarily effective for HIV prevention, yet uptake among BSMM remains low. We developed a community-based intervention for HIV-negative BSMM with sexual partners and no history of PrEP use in Prince George's County, Maryland. Study participants were recruited from January through March 2

OBJECTIVE: This study examined heterogeneity in the prevalence estimates of mental health, alcohol, and drug use outcomes across cisgender heterosexual subgroups and sexual and gender minority subgroups using a national probability sample.
METHOD: We conducted a secondary data analysis with the U.S. Transgender Population Health Survey (n = 1,436). We calculated prevalence estimates of serious psychological distress, suicidal ideation and attempts, elevated posttraumatic stress disorder symptoms, hazardous alcohol use, hazardous drug use, and co-occurring outcomes across subgroups using cutof

BACKGROUND: Adherence to antiretroviral therapy is crucial for determining health outcomes and secondary HIV transmission among people living with HIV/AIDS. Young men who have sex with men (YMSM) living with HIV are often challenged by the prevailing experiences of psychosocial stressors such as intimate partner violence and homophobic bullying, which may negatively affect their HIV care engagement.
METHODS: This study is the first to utilize a prospective cohort design (N = 185) involving YMSM living with HIV in Thailand. We examined the effects of intimate partner violence and homophobic bu

BACKGROUND: Lesbian, gay, and bisexual (LGB) youth have elevated suicidality rates.
AIMS: To investigate LGB-related and other factors associated with suicide attempts, suicidal ideation, and future suicide risk in a large UK sample.
METHOD: Logistic regression was used to investigate factors associated with suicidality in 3,275 LGB young adults from the Youth Chances project.
RESULTS: Suicide attempts (lifetime) were reported by 13.6% of participants; 45.2 % had suicidal ideation in the past year and 9.5% said future suicide attempts were likely. LGB stigma and discrimination experiences w

Introduction: Black women are more likely to be diagnosed at later stages of breast cancer compared with White women due to lower frequency of screening and lack of timely follow-up after abnormal screening results. Disparities in breast cancer screening, risk, and mortality are present within both Black women and sexual minority communities; however, there exists limited research concerning breast cancer care among Black sexual minority women. Materials and Methods: This scoping review examines the literature from 1990 to 2017 of the breast cancer care continuum among Black sexual minority wo

Intimate partner violence (IPV) represents a significant but underexamined public health issue among lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ+) populations in Southeast Asia. This scoping review aimed to synthesize existing evidence on the prevalence, correlates, and health-related outcomes of IPV among LGBTQ+ populations in the region. Guided by the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses extension for Scoping Reviews (PRISMA-ScR) framework, we systematically searched PubMed, Embase, PsycINFO, Web of Science, MEDLINE, and CINAHL for studies published th

OBJECTIVE: To assess the reliability and validity of measuring receptive anal intercourse (RAI) sensation and associated satisfaction and bother.
METHODS: Between July 2022 and January 2023, we conducted a survey on sensations during RAI among people with prostates (ie, cisgender men and transgender women). The survey content was developed based on our previous qualitative study. We assessed internal reliability and consistency through time. Sensations experienced during RAI were correlated with health-related quality-of-life measures to ensure construct validity.

BackgroundHIV continues to be an important public health concern in South Carolina (SC). However, an examination of providers' willingness to use mHealth technologies to address ongoing barriers to HIV care and prevention strategies, particularly among men who have sex with men (MSM) is currently lacking in SC. We therefore explored HIV care providers' perceptions of HIV testing and treatment uptake among MSM, and providers' willingness to use mHealth technology to address barriers to HIV testing and treatment in SC.MethodsBetween August and December 2021, we conducted semistructured virtual i

Black men who have sex with men (BMSM) living in the United States (U.S.) South are disproportionately affected by HIV and experience significant disparities in HIV incidence, access to HIV care, and prevention across ages and socio-economic statuses. The aim of this commentary is to critically review current literature on the state of PrEP use among BMSM in the U.S. South, including identifying barriers and facilitators to PrEP use in order to inform intervention development. Extant literature shows that despite the documented benefits of PrEP as an effective HIV-prevention method, its uptake

The present study investigated mock jurors' ( N = 541) perceptions of a hypothetical case of teacher-student sexual contact. Mock jurors read a brief vignette describing an alleged sexual encounter where the gender and age of both the teacher and student were manipulated. Participants rendered legal decisions (i.e., verdict, degree of guilt, and sentence length), as well as culpability judgments pertaining to both the teacher and the student (i.e., blame, cause, and desire for the sexual contact). In addition, the effects of mock juror gender and attitudes regarding both rape myth acceptance a

OBJECTIVE: The authors examined psychiatric comorbidities associated with alcohol use disorders and tobacco use disorders among heterosexual, bisexual, and gay and lesbian men and women in the United States and whether stress-related factors were predictive of comorbidities.
METHODS: The authors used data from the National Epidemiologic Survey on Alcohol and Related Conditions-III (2012-2013, N=36,309) to examine the co-occurrence of past-year alcohol or tobacco use disorder with past-year anxiety disorders, mood disorders, and posttraumatic stress disorder by sexual identity (heterosexual, b
